  1. Those announcements did not occur during an in progress game. Max Kepler is not a Twins spokesperson. For all we know someone could have been playing a joke on someone else.
  2. They are looking for a reason why the Twins are winning. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/58823/bullpens-will-keep-astros-twins-in-playoff-race "the Twins are 27-0 when leading after eight innings -- but the Twins have lost just one game all season in which they've led entering the sixth inning or later. So the middle relief, when handed a lead, has been excellent." Essentially it's the bullpen. They also give some stats to back it up. Aren't you glad they didn't trade Perkins during the last couple of years?
  3. This team is playing above everyone's expectations because everyone is looking at the individual parts and not the team as a whole. I want to compare them to the Piranha Twins when they were consistently picked to finish last but seemed to always be in the hunt. This team needs a nickname. Where's Ozzie?
  4. He would probably end up on the DL.
  5. Damn straight. If you don't like your seat on the bandwagon, get off and wait for the next ride. This year's draft picks should reach the majors in about 6 years.
  6. The Twins drafted 4 catchers in 2013. If they progress normally through the system they should be up about the time Joe Mauer's contract would be up, approximately 2018/2019. The Twins were planning for life after Mauer as a catcher. Unfortunately the concussion happened. They now have Suzuki signed to play until about the same time as Mauer would have.
  7. They seem to be keeping it open so they can play Hunter at DH more while they give the young outfielders some time in the field. I don't see what the big need for an extra bench player is about. For pinch hitting? Are you going to pinch hit for Mauer, Dozier or Plouffe? How about Hunter, Hicks or Rosario? Probably not Escobar either. Perhaps Santana. Right now the offense seems to be working fairly well. There are not a lot of pinch hitting opportunities available, so why the need for an extra bench player? Pitching is still the number one question mark on this team. The starters have been pitching farther into the games than last year while for the most part limiting runs allowed. They are still waiting for the other shoe to drop on Pelfrey and Gibson. Hughes seems a little shaky this year as well.
  8. The Twins need to play more games against teams outside the Central Division to get more exposure with the big market teams. Playing the Red Sox will help get their names in front of a more national audience. Dozier and Perkins seem to be the obvious choices. However my underdog, dark horse, just to spite the critics, laughing my butt off, I just won the lottery, screw your analytics, sleeper pick is........ Mike Pelfrey. Assuming he continues to pitch well, of course.
  9. He can and will get plenty of playing time at 3B if he is left at AA this year and AAA next year. At that point you evaluate whether he has what it takes to play 3B at the major league level. He is not going to be DH'd until he proves he cannot play a position. In the meantime you still have Plouffe for two more years of arbitration. During his final year of arbitration is when a decision needs to be made. Sano would then need to show he can play the position or the Twins can extend Plouffe. While I understand the desire to rush Sano to the majors, he still needs to prove he can play a position first. Then he needs to continue to hit at both AA and AAA. Finally he has to unseat an established player.
  10. Would love to see one of those frequency maps for all of the over the fence the balls hit in Target field, not just the couple players you featured. It would be interesting to see the overall pattern of where balls land. Any particular seat being more lucky overall?
  11. Relating this topic to the Twins.... Keep this discussion in mind when the inevitable argument for moving Plouffe to the outfield comes up when Sano is ready to jump to the majors. Playing Plouffe out of position will hurt his value as well, both for himself playing an unknown position and for the team downgrading defensively at 3rd while Sano 'learns' the position. While Sano's bat may project to be an upgrade, it means nothing if all the gains are negated defensively at two positions. It would be best to shift the younger Sano to a corner outfield or DH position at least until Plouffe's playing time with the Twins is over.
  12. WHAT? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! How can he be with Toronto, when he is still listed on the Twins Daily Organizational charts???? I thought the charts were infalliable.
  13. There are three pitchers with options remaining. May, Milone and Gibson. Gibson has to be considered for demotion as well if he is not pitching well when Nolasco is ready to be reinstated. Otherwise, May is the low man on the totem pole and he can be sent back down.
  14. With a record like this, the MVP certainly has to be a Twin as well. #MVP #TorriHunter #ThatDeceptivelyFastBasestealer #BeatsOutHerrmannBecauseHeOnlyPlaysOnceAWeek
  15. 1. It's hard to convice a quality FA center fielder to sign when they will get pushed aside in a year or two when Buxton is promoted. Schafer has a better career average than Hicks and if last year is his potential upside, it's seems to be higher than Hicks. 2. Not everyone has had a turn through the rotation yet. They are placeholders for when the prospects can pitch consistantly well. They are setting the bar that the prospects have to meet this year (not their future potential). 3. Let's wait until they hit the field before judging, eh? Small sample size and all. 4. How many players have the Twins had recently that have played with concussions? Two? Mauer & Morneau? How did coming back early work out for them? I'll take a health Hermann over a concussed Pinto. 5. The bandwagon hasn't had time to leave the driveway. Not enjoying the ride so far? Make room for the those who want to enjoy the ride. We'll pick you up midseason.
  16. It's a little early in the season to discuss trades, however I would endorse any trade that moves May & Meyers. If for no other reason than to quiet the calls to bring them up to the MLB team. While the proposed trade for Hamels looks interesting as proposed, I don't see the Twins willing to pay ANY pitcher more than $20 million per year.
  17. Just for sake of argument, let's say the Twins start out 0-for April & May. At that point in the season, if not sooner, roster changes would have been made by the front office. Many if not all of the prospects would have been called up and the current roster would have been shipped off, cut or DL'd. If the projected 0-162 record happens, that means all the coveted prospects that everyone is waiting for would be just as bad or worse than current roster. Congratulations, even a team filled with waiver claims could accidentally win a couple of games. You may have just proven that the Twins prospects are horribly inept and should not be promoted to the majors.
  18. I agree with the point of there being too much negativity. I see too much focus on the minor league prospects and not enough coverage of the major league team. Let's look at the strengths of the major league roster once in a while. There are reasons these players made the team and not the unproven, raw minor leaguers. I would suggest perhaps an embargo on mentioning any player not on the 25 man roster for the first month of the season. Lets talk about the major league team, not the AAA or AA players.
  19. The reason Hicks is at AAA is because Schafer is a better fielder and hitter than him right now. If Schafer hits anywhere between his career average of .229 and last year's Twins average of .285, he beats Hick's career average. Hicks can stay down at AAA and earn his way back on the team. If Buxton or Rosario skips ahead of him, so be it. Not all prospects and young players can play at the major league level. He may be one of them. On an unrelated topic, It's too bad spell check doesn't work on players' names. The article went from Milone to Malone and back and forth between Pelfrey and Palfrey several times. I wonder if that is something the site could arrange to take care of or if proof reading by the writer is recommended.
  20. Graham is a Rule 5 pick, not a "draft pick". He is a player that another team thought wasn't worth protecting. He may or may not be major league ready. If he doesn't make the team, so be it, the Twins have other players in the system to take his place. As far as Oliveros being removed from the 40 man roster, his time at AAA will not count toward his last option being used.
  21. A possible trade of Hicks sooner rather than later would yield a better return. He is out of options after this year. A team trading for Hicks could send him to AAA this year, while next year he would have to remain on the 25 man roster. This is Hick's make or break season. If he doesn't prove that he can play at the major league level now, his career will be similar to players like Sam Fuld and Jordan Schafer. He will become the player that gets waived and claimed by multiple teams needing backup outfield help. Arcia's power numbers have so far kept him in the lineup. If a player like Rosario can be more consistent at the plate and play just marginally better in the outfield, Arcia too can become expendable for the Twins.
  22. Adding a "dislike" option could reduce the number of times a thread is derailed by personal attacks. Rather than post something like "You suck, you're opinion sucks, etc.." just a simple "dislike" click says it all. There are some posts that you know are going to cause trouble but just don't rise to the level to need to be reported. A simple "dislike" click does it all. And for those needing to vent, you can always image that the "dislike" button really stands for the curse word of your choice.
  23. Call ups can be made from any level. Look at Polanco's call up from single A last season. It's all a matter of who's available, playing well, and their roster situation when the need for a call up is made. By returning the top prospects to AA to start the season, they are making AAA roster spots available to the experienced borderline major league players who may not be on the 40 man roster but could in a pinch be called up and not be in over their heads. Filler players. They are there if an emergency call up is needed and the prospects are not ready. If the prospects were sitting at AAA when a call up is needed and they were obviously not ready, then the team would have to dip down to the lower levels for players who not only be of lesser prospect status but be further away development wise. You also want to have someplace to promote the prospects to if a spot on the major league team does not open up.
  24. Wasn't this topic thoroughly covered in several other threads already? He is under team control for 4 more years. He cannot go anywhere. When he reaches arbitration, he will be paid based on his on-field performance in comparison to other players with the same service time. The Twins haven't lost an arbitration hearing since Kyle Lohse. They have settled or won every one since. If Dozier does perform at a high level through his arbitration years and it appears that he will be too expensive to keep, the Twins could make a qualifying offer when he reaches free agency and receive a draft pick for compensation if he leaves.
  25. I vote yes. By signing him you also take him away from a division rival.
