  1. Good article. I agree 100 percent that Yates and Rosenthal would be good fits for the Twins. Unfortunately, they would fit on a lot of teams, and I don't see them signing for the projected amounts shown here, especially when Trevor May got what he did. This front office has shown they don't want to devote significant dollars to relief pitching. Once the music stops, I'm afraid the Twins will be left without a chair for the area they need the most help.
  2. Has anyone signed Orosco yet for 2021?
  3. Too early in the morning to hit me with that....
  4. Since you brought it up.....he last played for the Twins in 2013. He didn't really turn the corner in his career until 2019. Maybe there was something with his delivery or pitch selection that the Twins could have spotted, but several other teams were also unable to help him. Beyond that, I don't know what else the Twins could have done. Good for him. A lot of players hang up their cleats once things haven't been working out for a few years. He stuck with it and made himself a top-tier reliever. (I do think the White Sox waaaayyy over paid.)
  5. I felt at the time that if the package wasn't right, the Twins should have held onto him and then taken the extra draft pick when he walked at the end of the year. It would have been one thing if the Twins were rebuilding at that time, but they weren't. They ended up losing the division by one game in 2008 and missed the playoffs. Santana would have made all the difference. Smith was dealt a bad hand, but I can't think of one trade that didn't blow up in his face.
  6. I generally concur with the article. Cruz is a special talent, but given his age I don't think the Twins should go beyond one year. To me, the issue is whether Sano can eventually play a respectable first base. If he can't, they will need to keep the DH spot open so he can get his at bats.
  7. I like this article, although I really think the Twins will have to spend at least some money on the bullpen, even at the expense of a DH. They are losing May, Romo, and Clippard. None of those guys were lights out, but they made a lot of appearances in the shortened season. Add the fact that we don't know what we'll be getting with Rogers next year.
  8. If it comes down to May vs Rogers, I think you go with Rogers. 1. I think he has more upside potential, 2. He's left handed, and most importantly 3. He offers more financial flexibility. If I'm May I'd want a multi-year deal. The Twins don't have to make that kind of commitment to Rogers.
  9. Still too many AAAA types in camp and none of them has really stood out. Part of it is there just isn't enough at bats or innings to go around. Maybe they should cut a few of those guys loose and let the rest show us what they've got in these last couple weeks.
  10. I think the entire proposal is stupid. Why even have a regular season? If they are concerned about ratings then keep working on getting the length of the games down. Who the heck has time to spend 4 and a half hours on a weeknight watching a playoff game?
  11. I worry that Odorizzi could be the next Phil Hughes. Hughes found success when he started throwing that high cut fastball past hitters, similar to Odorizzi. When Hughes lost a couple mph on that fastball the party was over. I hope I'm wrong, but the bottom line is I would be wary about getting stuck in a big long term deal with Odorizzi.
  12. Am still trying to wrap my head around this one. Was not a fan of Brusdar for Maeda straight up. Maeda is about to turn 32, and I don't see that he is a big improvement over other options. The $10 million for the comp B pick is odd. Seems like an overpay by the Dodgers. Why would they do it when they know they could have done Brusda-Maeda straight up?
  13. I generally agree with the above posts this trade is more about the Dodgers and Red Sox than the Twins. With the Dodgers taking Price, Maeda is the odd man out (in a way he was odd man out even before this trade). The Sox don't want Maeda because with his incentives his salary could hit $10 million per year, which would defeat the purpose of what they're trying to achieve with this trade. They either need to include the Twins or find another taker for Maeda.
  14. If they wanted a starter why didn't they take Maeda? I agree the Twins shouldn't have to add anything more. Am not a fan of the trade to begin with. Would rather keep Brusdar and watch him shut the door on the 2020 World Series.
  15. Not a fan of this move. Maeda had the same WAR in 2019 as Homer Bailey. Those kinds of guys can be had every year relatively inexpensively through free agency. If you're going to trade one of your better pitching prospects, make it count.
  16. If Berrios stays healthy and puts up ok numbers he would absolutely make more money going year to year. But of course things happen, especially to pitchers. As someone mentioned above, it only makes sense for the Twins to do a longer deal if they get at least some kind of discount. So the ball is really in his court and he has to make a decision about how much risk he is willing to accept.
  17. If you're going to do a documentary on the '88 Twins don't forget to go behind the scenes on the moment where the characters played by Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger discovered where they were created. In all seriousness, if Cleveland does nothing, they are still a very formidable team. Can't beat that rotation.
  18. The first time I watched Castro catch a game for the Twins was a complete revelation. Nothing against Kurt Suzuki. He was/is decent with the bat, but behind the plate he is not comparable to Castro. Castro was a great signing.
  19. Good article. Of all the options, I definitely think "starter" is the least likely to happen this year. His injury history and experience are working against him. An opener strategy is definitely something to consider, although in the case of Grateral, I think his situation may be determined by the final numbers game that goes with setting the final roster and who is out of options. With Romo and Clippard the bullpen is getting crowded.
  20. Maybe they saw him as a reliever and lost interest when they resigned Romo. Although Yamaguchi is a righty, so who knows. There has to be some other reason besides the money that they felt he wasn't worth taking a flyer on.
  21. This article is complete garbage! It has nothing to do with Mauer. Everyone knows the front office has been quiet because they are keeping a roster spot open for Nick Punto!
  22. In the end I suppose money talks, but I don't see Bumgarner leaving the National League. One gets the impression he wants to hit. A couple years ago he lobbied to get in the home run derby.
