  1. As far as I'm concerned the Twins still need to add a starter. DeScalfani might be cooked. I assume the Twins had to take him to help out Seattle's payroll.
  2. This must be the big move Rocco was alluding to.
  3. I hope it works out for him, but if I were betting I think it's highly unlikely he will play in another MLB game.
  4. Twins were never going to go there. Boras works his magic again.
  5. Why? This just feels like spending money to spend money.
  6. I love it. I can't attend the meltdown, but I would seriously pay for some of those matchbooks.
  7. I suspect that's what the Marlins are thinking. He's coming off a career year, so why not sell high. The problem with that thinking is that he now only has two years of control instead of three, and new economic realities may leave teams less inclined to take him through arbitration or negotiate an extension.
  8. I can't believe they'd go to arbitration with Gordon over such a small amount. I gotta think they'll work something out. As far as Alcala, I don't understand why he'd agree to that. He's basically getting league minimum and giving away any leverage for next year. Wouldn't he have been better off just going to arbitration and letting the chips fall where they may?
  9. I always felt "Toolsy" was a term used for players who could do a lot of things just "ok", but couldn't do anything particularly well. Maybe that's how his wife understood it. Well written, as always.
  10. DeSclafani could end up being Paddack and Mahle all over again, and for $12 million, I vote "no". Maybe if Seattle sent some money back with him.
  11. Thanks for the nice summation. Just one editing nitpick.....The sentence that begins "Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda, and Tyler Mahle's production must be made up......" Could have been shortened to.... "Sonny Gray and Kenta Maeda's production must be be made up...."
  12. If I'm the Twins, I want no part of DeScalfani. It could be Mahle all over again.
  13. When healthy, DeSclafani is legit. Unfortunately, he's only pitched over 100 innings in two of the last five years.
  14. I would do Polanco for Emerson Hancock and a lotto ticket. Hancock does not replace Sonny Gray, but he's an intriguing arm who at least gives the Twins more depth. The question is would Seattle be willing to take on Polanco's salary? If Seattle is looking to trim payroll, $10 million is still $10 million, even if it's for a good player like Polanco.
  15. Looks like a swap of bad contracts. Just going by $$$, looks like Seattle saves about $25 million over the next three years (I'm assuming Ray doesn't opt out.) Giants are probably crossing their fingers and hoping Ray returns to form and gives them at least one good year out of the remaining three of his contract. It's kind of a big gamble for the Giants. Even before his surgery, Ray's career has been kind of up and down.
  16. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/braves-red-sox-trade-chris-sale-for-vaughn-grissom.html I actually think the Sox got the better of this one. I guess it all depends on what you think of Grissom. I know I'll catch a lot of flack on this board for saying this, but he's the same age as Brooks Lee and you could argue he has similar, if not better, minor league numbers.
  17. He literally pitched only 11 innings for the Twins, yet after the allegations came out, all the news articles showed pictures of him in a TWINS UNIFORM. Lovely.
  18. I've come to peace with R.D. I think the guy was just flat out over used. There were a couple years where he pitched over 100 innings as a reliever. You would never see that today. He was a slightly better than average reliever being forced into high leverage situations because the Twins had no one else.
  19. Plus the Twins missed winning the division by one game that year. Having Johan in the rotation sure would have been nice, but who dwells on such things.....
  20. I say be done with Balley's. Turn the production over to MLB. They have experience with MLB Network and are generally good at it. Offer the MLB.tv app without the local blackout restrictions, and to whatever extent the local cable networks and TV affiliates are willing to pay to air some or all of the games, great. Everyone will have access (it won't necessarily be free, but that's not happening). The Twins would probably have to leave money on the table, but this is where this is all eventually headed anyway, so why not just bite the bullet now. Better access should yield returns down the road.
  21. The issue with Castillo is that he's still owed as much as $125 million. The Twins wouldn't go there for Sonny Gray, I doubt they would open the safe for Castillo. The Mariners would have to contribute $$ to make it doable.
  22. What about Emerson Hancock? True, he will not replace Sonny Gray, but it would give the Twins some depth with a young controllable arm. Maybe Polanco for Hancock and a lower tier prospect?
  23. Interesting, but not happening. Orioles are looking for starting pitching help, same as the Twins. There's no way they trade Kremer. The Twins are in a tough spot. It's rare that decent starters are made available. If someone like Luzardo or Gilbert are dangled on the trading block (and I doubt they will be) there are 10 playoff contenders willing to bite.
