  1. Very skeptical Sano takes that deal.
  2. I thought 2013 was a relatively creative draft. I don't know all the teams that well, but I imagine, like most things, the Twins are more the mushy middle than they are especially bad.
  3. I'm starting to buy that if Buxton is looking to hit fastballs to right center and pull offspeed stuff he's got a chance to pull out of this. Still an absurd amount of talent there.
  4. They aren't limited to one way. Perhaps that was their attitude and it lead to this disaster. They haven't drafted and developed pitching, I'm not disputing that, but it seems other competitive teams have been able to acquire it through different means, and not just signing 9 figure FA contracts. On the flip side, 9 of the 13 everyday guys are homegrown.
  5. And Santiago is a stretch to count as it was a bad salary dump. The lack of talent acquired through trade is by far the biggest problem of Ryan's tenure. It amplifies other aspects that weren't great but probably aren't worthy of the scorn they receive either.
  6. And drafted players (in original org) will skew heavily towards everyday guys over starting pitchers.
  7. Very fair, but the fact there is a new front office gives me some hope. They've started conservative, but I anticipate an aggressive push for talent acquisition over the next year and a half.
  8. I just use fangraphs and click through. I did a quick and dirty search last year, average is less than 2 per team.
  9. A lot of teams have no internally developed starters. For example, the most recent World Series Champion.
  10. There is much to criticize about the Twins development, but neither of these strike me as all that convincing. The total amount of players on the roster drafted by the team is actually pretty comparable to most teams around the league. But what has really killed the franchise during the last 6 years is they have been so bad at talent acquisition from means other than the draft. They were so mediocre in their trades, not much for free agent signings or waiver pickups, very few of the sign and flip type deals. And for all the hot takes floating around about Buxton's development, I never thought I'd see that he wasn't rushed enough.
  11. Good list. I'd add some combo of Chargois/Burdi/Melotakis come up and pitch well. I'm more shocked in the short term by Gibson's collapse, but definitely agree that Buxton is in a class of his own for overall buzzkill.
  12. I think that beyond these two, an argument can be made that everyone else is performing within expectations. Gibson is much more shocking at this point.
  13. Chargois is ready? He pitched his first game of the year yesterday.
  14. What depth? Isn't that the concern. And on the bigger point, is it even clear there is a worthwhile bat to grab right now?
  15. Because there is no reliever depth at the moment. The next pitcher they would go down and get, no matter what role, would be one of those starters listed. Again, it may change amd quickly, but not there yet.
  16. Because the next pitcher to go down starts dipping into that thin pitching depth you just referenced. Could change quickly though if Chargois is healthy and producing, and Melotakis and Burdi (and soon Jay) keep doing their thing.
  17. I'm confused, is Davidson a power hitter to be avoided or a strikeout candidate to be challenged? And there is no reason Pressly needs to be limited to 1 inning. That's not obvious.
  18. Also why it's going to take many more starts before Gibson is demoted.
  19. That's why they're a little hamstrung with the 25 man at the moment getting to 13 bats. They're not going to dfa a pitcher right now.
  20. I understand maximizing pitches in the bigs, but this strikes me as a terrible idea for development. Really setting him up for failure.
  21. I think we can all agree that no matter what the Twins front office spends it isn't enough.
  22. In my mind, the only two local media sources worth following for Twins information.
  23. Not only that, they were trying to sign him to an early extension (which Grossman turned down). So he isn't exactly coming from nowhere.
