  1. I have no idea what you're talking about, but carry on.
  2. Do you remember the career arc of Duensing? Rogers could certainly pitch in the majors, but he's a middle reliever/5 starter. Exactly the type of guy you trade for immediate help if you are in contention.
  3. If the Twins take all the money (and Papelbon waives the no trade) it wouldn't take a whole lot to get Papelbon. Probably a prospect slightly better than Rogers.
  4. This I agree, I should have read your exchange closer. I personally do not think they should go in heavy for an elite relief arm, but should go lighter for a solid arm (like Benoit or Smith) and hope he can be effective for 3 months.
  5. But Benoit is also not Miller or Soria. That would be my point. And I would add that both those guys jumped in rankings after the trade and doesn't necessarily reflect the reality at the time.
  6. On this I agree. Still has nothing to do with last night.
  7. I'm not digging deeper and deeper. I'm stating very clearly what the Twins are doing with May and why. It's really not my concern if you (and others) accept that. The Twins have guys for the role you wanted for May last night, they just aren't very good. May, at this moment, has nothing to do with that. I personally hope the Twins upgrade their primary setup guys. It is not going to be May. If the Twins had sent May to the minors to continue starting, they would have called up a different reliever they also would not have used ahead of Boyer in that situation. May is going to be used under pretty strict guidelines in the immediate future. Maybe it will change. Ideally he goes back in the rotation.
  8. FIP does seem less meaningful for relievers. But I would trust that more for someone doing it in the bigs vs AAA.
  9. So now you want him to potentially start warming up multiple times a night? Keep going around and around, they aren't going to use May this way.
  10. Thanks for bringing some sanity to what it will actually take to get a reliever this year. Makes sense for the Twins to get one or two.
  11. More stats that look pretty but have nothing to do with the reality of how they are going to use May in the immediate future. He isn't going to warm up quick and enter with runners on base.
  12. While true, he didn't enter the game in these situations. I don't disagree with any of this or the other comments, I just think people should be realistic with how they are going to use May. Heck, he might be back in the rotation coming out of the break.
  13. Signings of $10k or less don't count against the pool, and I have also read that the six highest bonuses of $50k or less also don't count to the pool (though I can't find if this still applies or was only an initial year thing). All in this year on one guy for signings of any real amount if they can't acquire any more pool space.
  14. Are you sure he is more likely? Warming up quicker than usual and entering a game in a situation he never has before? This is a short term solution, they don't want him to be a reliever long term, they want to protect him, and they want to use him in controlled situations. Doesn't mean just mop up time, but starting innings clean.
  15. Clearly not. I suppose they could have sent him back to AAA.
  16. We just need more of your enlightenment. You haven't led us astray yet.
  17. They are within 5% at least, right?
  18. I didn't realize his k and bb rates were so bad. I'm much more pessimistic than I thought.
  19. I imagine the Twins prefer he wasn't in the pen. So yes.
  20. Sorry typed that wrong. Meant to say they won the two games between his last appearance and yesterday. And people really don't understand why they would be hesitant to put May in the middle of an inning with runners on base?
  21. Ben Badler writes some quick notes on my hope for the Twins next year. Stars are kind of alining for them to go big: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/10-teams-international-bonus-pools/ Money quote:
  22. He wasn't going to pitch for 3-4 days after his previous start. Could have worked once or twice since his previous outing, but they did win the two games before his last outing and yesterday so hard to argue too much. Yesterday was probably the most logical situation, but they aren't going to bring him in mid-inning with runners on.
  23. And I actually think that is the right move for this team at this time. I would amend B slightly and add another option of taking on money. Decent setup guys can be had as more or less salary dumps.
  24. I put the loss on scoring 2 runs.
