  1. To me they should have been shopping him to San Francisco for something like Panik and Chase Blackburn. Or Baltimore for Bridwell, Tillman, and something else. Or maybe a package starting with Eovaldi from Los Angeles. The reality is, Willingham is occupying a spot that one of the OFs in our farm is not far from taking. (Particularly because a couple of our AA guys are showing more readiness than expected) He's also 33 and highly unlikely to repeat his season. Relying on one month's bounceback from Morneau or Span's friendly contract to be our main trade chips screams disappointing result. We may have already lost out on our best value for Willy, but the longer we wait the worse it will get.
  2. At this point - Carroll and Casilla are both better options than Dozier. Unfortunately, Dozier should have been refining his game in AAA weeks ago and getting an extended trial the last month and a half. As it is, they basically took an entire season to watch him fail miserably and make zero progress towards being a better option.
  3. He's also on a career-best pace for ABs in a season due to better health, which is unlikely to be sustainable. I like Doumit, but he's not the kind of guy that should stand in the way of getting a good look at Parmalee.
  4. That was the only point I was making - we definitely didn't move him at the opportune time. Also - we did sell him at his lowest point of tenure as a Twin. I didn't want him sticking around, but I never wanted him to stick around - even during that hot streak in July of 2010 or whatever it was.
  5. I forgot how often we've endured "Ryan Doumit: Outfielder" of late. If we can put up with that, we can deal with Parmalee out there. Quite frankly, Doumit should move to the role he was signed for (bench) to make room for Parmalee.
  6. The kid needs to be hitting major league pitching every day and very soon. I could care less about how well he plays a corner OF spot on a bad team. I care about seeing him hit.
  7. This would be a fine point if you hadn't said Romero was an "ace". Is the bar for being an "ace" simply being better than Nick Blackburn?
  8. Right and normally he struggles to get 500 ABs in a season because of injury. We have a glut of young OF that will be up and ready before his contract expires. If he's not part of the long-term plan, you should make his departure part of the long-term plan.
  9. Didn't a recent study show that the babying of pitchers was actually causing more injuries? I can't remember where that was from on BYTO. Either way, this is the same team that let him pitch in the all-star game and could've just skipped a start here and there and not created this stupid situation.
  10. Is this just a restatement of the news or are you making an implication about the issue with one whacko?
  11. You would hope, but unfortunately I don't think it will for many. I'm not sure why so many people care about making sure others suffer.
  12. If you can deal Willingham for significant help for the future - you worry about questions like this later.
  13. Spamalot
  14. Yes, I'm generally not a fan of trades made in the manner in which this one was completed. I'm also generally not a fan of "sell low" moves. Does this revoke my fanhood?
  15. You can also look at it as a loss if you consider what we could have gotten for him had we dealt him in December or January rather than August.
  16. I'm quite convinced about this time next year we're going to be seriously regretting that we didn't deal him at his peak value. His track record and age just scream it.
  17. I think we overvalue Span to imagine that kind of deal would even be a starting point. The price we'd have to pay to balance the Andrus > Span would be pretty unpalatable. The Span for Hughes proposal is much more realistic. Not that I'd endorse it, but I think that's a much more accurate view on his value.
  18. I agreed with most of what you said - I take some issue here. The government/society has an interest in promoting stable social relationships. If it was simply handed over to the churches it would severely complicate the state's ability to incentivize the relationships that are strong economically and for child-rearing. I say let churches decide what they want to recognize as marriage, but in terms of the government churches shouldn't be involved in any way, shape, or form. They are ceremonial - the license has a pragmatic function.
  19. What's he doing any worse than what he was doing two months ago? He should've been sent down then, it was a mistake to keep him up this long.
  20. Congrats
  21. I think this is the way to go - programs need to have a positive spin to them, but we can't shy from a reform simply because we use the term reform. I think more people would agree with that if it was better presented, unfortunately neither side is really working to that outcome.
  22. I would imagine that next year we'll have a spot for him if nothing changes. Both Doumit and Willingham's careers indicate what we've got out of this year in terms of both health and production is highly unlikely to stay. So I'm sure we'll have a DH or corner OF spot with plenty of ABs next year for him.
  23. We're getting in the way of an intellectual discussion on whether Dick Bremer is a racist Dave. Let's let that high quality content resume - back to the subforums!
  24. And then was renamed - but you're correcting him. He'll take that personally rather than listen to well-meaning advice. Best not to try.
  25. I find it a bit odd that a forum trying so hard to clean up the content of exchanges also, at the same time, has no floor for what constitutes asinine nonsense. I'm sure many randomn fans dropping by think very highly of the content here when it's declared that "Bremer: Racist?" is worthy of discussion. But you do your own thing your lordship, far be it from me to point out something you might want to consider. Proceed.
