  1. Just saying....we're not the only ones with this very sane approach to fixing Liriano. By whatever catch phrase you want to call it....
  2. I'm only seeing the "fire em all" rhetoric from a select few - you used this same "overblown" response to me the other day when I expressed frustration with the handling of the DL. Now apparently that is "well warranted" - I'm not sure you're even clear what you think is being overblown. This article (and you can see it in the responses here) makes people think you're painting them into one of those corners.
  3. The only thing overblown is the thesis of this blog post. Nick did the same thing on the forum a few days ago and it's no less wrong now. This blog pins the argument into two absurd corners - either as staunch defenders of the organization out of medical ignorance or overly critical hyperventilators. Personally, I think the sane response to this issue is largely in-between. This is a team that has been carrying 13 pitchers and one of the 12 position players (Butera) is a borderline major-leaguer with limited ability to contribute. When you spend 18 days with one of your other 11 position players in limbo - you're greatly impairing your team. Yes, this team is awful so the cost of this one position this year is minimal. However, bad practice is still bad practice no matter what the quality of the team is. Having a poor season is not an excuse to run your operation ineffectively. It's not "overblowing" anything to be critical of this. I don't claim to know exactly what the problem is, but by comparison to other teams in the league it's clear the Twins are not utilizing the DL as effectively as others. It's also clear that their ability to assess and treat injuries is not at the same level as the other teams. There also appears to be an issue with player-medical staff communication. (Not laying fault either direction, probably both are guilty) I don't lump TJS into this because that could jsut be a fluke thing but it certainly adds to the frustrations, warranted or not. Again, I don't claim to know why the problems above are happening. That's for someone with more direct supervision of the team to assess and correct, but it's within my rights as a fan to question and be frustrated with what is now a two year trend. It's not "overblowing" anything to be frustrated with the way the team is handling (or lack there of) injuries. It's one of many other things that the team needs to look at improving if they are going to return to contention.
  4. Yeah thats the funny part - our advocate here even admitted it wont stop with these laws. Cant wait to hear his responses!
  5. Um, I'm not sure about everyone else - but I'm not upset about this because it hurts the team. I'm upset about it because A) This is now a problem several years old and IF we were contenders would be a problem and (more importantly) Parmalee has proven he's better than AAA pitching and since we should be spending the rest of this season evaluating players that are part of the long-term future - he should be getting at-bats. I'm bullish on Parmalee being one of those players, so losing out on several weeks of audition time is frustrating. I don't think being frustrated by this continuing issue is "overblowing" anything.
  6. So the camp thinking Span is going to land us some solid young starter ready to back down yet? This team's injury nonsense is pretty laughable though - think of all the Parmalee ABs we lost the last few weeks as a result of this. Really depressing.
  7. Congrats, you've gotten Brock distracted. Not going to happen here. Which courts and what evidence did they cite that no one would be "burdened" by such a requirement? This is such a juicy mistake. So no ID is fool proof (can I pretend to be you and be a petty jerk about that mistake?) but this will "cut it down". By all means - could you tell me how much is happening now nation-wide. And then give me the numbers on how many less will happen with this? Since you already admitted that this legislation will not fix the problem, just reduce it - how much is this reduction going to be? FYI - if you're honest here, you're going to realize that this massive concentration of time and campaigning is for a gain that is so minimal you should be ashamed of the pretentious tact you've taken. But by all means - post numbers. Not opinions. Facts. Burden of proof is on you. A Justice's opinion is still an opinion. Since you undoubtedly researched which precincts these were - care to share which ones they were and evidence of this? Again, there was no reference in this article so these are not "facts" until shown to be so. As far as I can tell, it is speculation and hearsay. I googled for these precinct issues and all I can find is this article. No outside verification doesn't do much to establish this as fact. So, again, since you undoubtedly fact checked what you posted - care to enlighten what this author did not and actually provide facts and not just the appearance of them? Or are all articles I post that say something is true acceptable as facts? I don't always agree with Brock, Psuedo, GPA, Hornhead, diehard or any of the other old BYTO crew but I respect them and reading your pretentious nonsense lit me up. So no, we're not going to be civil if this is the tone of your discourse. I'll just give it back to you - better than you can. Because it's in the same vein as redistricting and all the other things both parties do to screw with the other. That's all this is. I'm sorry - where did I say anything about racism? Feel free to post this exchange for your class - show what a winner you are at this!
  8. Those stats belong to a bad pitcher - Blackburn's negative impact is more related to our insistence on running him out there than on bad luck because he was some degree more awful then what we could have reasonably suspected. T he only truly unlucky breaks have been Span,Plouffe, and Capps injuries. And all teams have that happen - I'll keep saying it so next year when the "we are two silver bullett free agents away!" crowd has a wakeup just how forseeable it really was. Nice start by Deduno though!
  9. People aren't concerned about his play out there as much as why they didn't at least give him reps in AAA at the same position they'd be calling him up for. That's just better preparation, even if the position is easier than others.
  10. Lost in the excitement about Parmalee.....this move proves there may indeed be a god. Jeff Gray is finally gone off a major league roster.
  11. My phone didn't pull up this page, so my apologies for the crack. I won't apologize for tearing your argument apart: So you have evidence, since the burden of proof is on you, that $10 will in no way "burden" any intending voter? Do show the evidence of that. So your claim is that photo IDs are 100% effective? By all means, let's see evidence of that. I think your average 16 year old alcohol purchaser would happily disagree. And all the registering in the world isn't going to stop Adam Jones from using his older brother Paul's ID if they look closely enough. For all your pretentious blowhard nonsense you know full well there are fallacies for bias sources of information. If you're going to claim to play the logic game, playing it without integrity and then resorting to a fallacy again to cover up your own fallacy makes it damn hard to take you seriously. Congrats, you are able to use the index in a logic book effectively - avoiding fallacies is very apparently not your intent. I'm sorry, which part of this opinion piece are you citing as fact? Again, you climb on your high horse to cry "fallacy" and then support it with a fallacy of your own. Check your index if you need help knowing which one. And...yes....I know I used one - difference is, I'm calling you out for your hypocrisy, not claiming any self-righteous superiority myself like you. I think using this in your logic class would be great. If your students have a functioning mind, they'll call you out for your grandstanding hypocrisy. Voter idea is not driven by some quest for purity in the electorate. It is being pursued for exactly the reasons one idiot in Pennsylvania let slip.
  12. Are brock's posts invisible or is it your intent to avoid all directquestions/responses by posting shallow nonsense?
  13. Mauers health....not production. Do you really want to double down on that dumb notion about Blackburn? Your schtick is snipe and run but I will gladly retort - just want to give you a chance to back pff that plank.
  14. Any list that says Nick Blackburn being awful was "unexpected" is trying WAY too hard. And almost all of the others have similar issues.
  15. Well said. You forgot about the insane month that Plouffe had that completely defied his past career, Doumit's unusually healthy season, Diamond going from AAA filler to a part of this team going forward, Fien and Burton, and Revere becoming a force. Not all of these things will fail, but people are acting like everything has gone wrong this year. Everything went wrong LAST year. This year, one could argue they've been relatively lucky. Certainly not unlucky. When you're the worst team in the AL and you weren't unlucky, talking "contention" the next year with no immediate AAA help seems pretty silly.
  16. A long, long way from contention is the only conclusion if you honestly look at this team. Not just the actual talent but the likelihhod of repeat seasons and health. This team has actually had good health, offensive spikes, and multiple pleasant surprises. Red flags.
  17. Yeah, it's pretty sad when your "success" is having a pulse on the mound and a willingness to be publicly awful at what you do.
  18. That comp doesn't make any sense. Unless Vargas recently signed a 265M extension I missed.
  19. Voter ID is nothing but a slimey attempt to restrict democratic voters. It's every bit as sleezy as when Dems appeal to the poor by giving handouts. All you're doing is repeating obnoxious talking points. There is nothing of substance.
  20. Jeff Gray making a major league baseball salary is basically a gross human rights violation at this point. This of the many ways that money could be better spent.
  21. You are comparing a state rep to a u.s. rep - it's incredibly stupid. Just stop.
  22. Well, at least you're approaching making sense. Your first two posts were just ridiculous. The reality is, right or wrong, political sex scandals are almost so commonplace that we don't pay attention unless they are truly outlandish. The DFL guy should be condemned and everyone, regardless of affiliation, should call for resignation. What the moron Republican said feeds a talking point of the Democrats and gives it merit. That has political ramifications because it strengthen's the opposition's message. There is your difference.
  23. Too soon to say. But this much is for sure - one month sure looks like a case of "which of these months is not like the others" game. I don't think we need Sesame Street to figure out which one.
  24. This team won't contend next year, everyone should just admit this to themselves and move on. That said - Buchholz could help this team now and in the future. Lester helps now and, if he bounces back, would have trade value with that shorter contract. I'd rather invest available payroll into these two then dumping a bunch of money to Anibel Sanchez or someone similar.
  25. Again, no context and just wild incendiary nonsense.
