  1. Damn good player they're getting here. Hopefully he can get himself ready fairly quickly.
  2. I think it goes back to my theory that the Twins are a pretty moral straight-laced club. (Not a bad thing by the way) So I wonder if the shady dealings required to get a Cuban today aren't part of this phenomenon.
  3. He's 8th worst in xFIP. His .6 WAR makes him basically a replacement level player. When you're basically a replacement level player then you can default to other factors in replacing him....like any investment in him has zero payoff for the team. There is no long-term investment to make. There is no trade value to invest in. This isn't a good pitcher gone bad who needs time to sort it out. This is a bad pitcher gone worse and we have other replacement level guys we can try out and statistically have high odds of being at least slightly better.
  4. So your snide remark tries to use a 24 year old getting his first MLB starting experience as an example? Fail.
  5. To me the single biggest difference between the Rays/As and the Twins is smart and effective use of their 25 man roster. I like many of the things the a Twins do to acquire young talent but my god has their MLB roster management been bad for awhile.
  6. Tell you what....why don't you find me a metric that puts Correia anywhere near "good". Whatever you want to pick you might be able to show a bit of bad luck but still a bad starter. He's not part of the future and not helping the present, I could care less which stats you want to pick out of personal preference, none of them are going to be a ringing endorsement for him.
  7. The issue is that minor league players have their rights and privileges being decided by two groups conspiring without their representation to suppress their wages. They are using monopolistic privileges to strip players of negotiating power and employment rights. There is choice in signing that initial contract, but that doesn't mean there isn't a violation happening ethically and legally. The current anti-trust exemption was even waived by Clinton in regards to team rights over players after the union broke the reserve clause decades ago. Except that clause still exists for minor leaguers. It is being inaccurately and unfairly presented that the MLB player's union is watching out for minor leaguers where in fact they are using them as negotiating leverage. (Or as a point to concede in exchange for ownership concessions) Until MiLB players are fairly represented by the union there is, in my opinion, a violation happening here that can and should be pursued. Regardless their "choice" is irrelevant to the conversation.
  8. Just because you retain choice in your employment options doesn't mean what is being done isn't illegal or a violation of fair employment practices. If "you chose to work there" was the type of excuse suggested here by mlhouse we wouldn't have lawsuits ranging from sexual harassment to discrimination because you "chose" to work at the place harassing you, etc. This work environment is being negotiated by a union with no representation for this part of the work force under anti-trust protection. Lawsuits like this are necessary to raise public awareness and rectify the wrongs.
  9. But it's times like this that muddle the notion we often hear that Gardy has last say on the 25 man roster. This non-defense of starting Correia sounds forced because he'd rather not be doing it. So it appears that control might not really be there. (And then there are situations like Bartlett that just scream Gardy...so hell if I know) Either way, it's his job to field those questions in a responsible way. That's what being the manager partly entails. (And if he's going to be irresponsible...I wish he was harsher on the veterans and not on the kids as he typically is)
  10. Fine....but why throw him under the bus? It's hypocritical to say "Gardy shouldn't be expected to call out Correia" and then he literally does the same thing just moments later about a bunch of guys he's not even seeing every day!!!! You want him to back Correia? Fine....he didn't even do that. He talked about his payroll number and then dogged some important prospects. It's indefensible as a tactic and incredibly poor personnel relations.
  11. He's the worst qualifying pitcher in ERA. How bad does he have to be before replacing him is prudent? Gardy and this FO flippantly throw young players under the bus all the time. There is no reason to have them in this conversation AT ALL. Even if you want to be ducky and bunny on it then you say "Hey...I believe in Kevin...we're going to get this turned around" Instead he essentially said "He gets paid too much for me to bench him and those young kids are doing lots of stuff wrong too." It's completely fruitless and devoid of tact and meaning.
  12. Given his ability to retain his job...I'd say not very stupid at all. If losing almost 100 games for three years doesn't get you fired, I doubt one flippant comment to the public will change that. Any way you shake it, his comments about the AAA pitchers was 100% unnecessary.
  13. Why is Nick Blackburn even in this conversation? You could dig up all sorts of obscure stuff like that but it's a rather faulty notion of how to judge a player. And a terrible argument for why Correia > May as an option right now. It's completely irrelevant.
  14. I struggle to define "dominating" if May's last two months are not that. Perhaps you could help?
  15. Well said. You don't have to expect him to insult Correia, but there is zero reason to mention the AAA guys in the process.
  16. How about "Right now he's one of the guys that has been made available to me. Until that changes, he'll start"
  17. Like I said earlier today...trade deadline. But god do I hope I'm wrong.
  18. We all want Arcia to be the best he can possibly be, I think that's the source of the criticism. We also saw him do many of these same things early on last year and then he suffered after the league adjusted to him. We just have to hope his coaches are helping him anticipate those adjustments already and see where we go from here. Right now it's great to see him crushing the ball around - he just looks like the middle of the order mainstay his potential suggested last year.
  19. I'd have rather targeted another comp player, Ervin Santana instead of Pelfrey for example.
  20. Oh, don't you worry. He'll get another chance, go 5-6 innings with 3-4 runs and it will be said he "kept them in the game", and this will go on. The chord needed to be cut a month ago, I'm honestly not sure it will before the trade deadline now.
  21. I haven't heard a single complaint about Hicks walking too much. His inability to make solid contact? Sure...those two things are not even remotely the same.
  22. I guess I'm curious......what are the odds we see him by spring training of 2016?
  23. This lawsuit may be the beginning of exactly that.
