  1. Oliver has been nothing short of brilliant so far and this episode was no different.
  2. This author really hit it out of the park. The union often whines about things it ultimately had a say in. No veteran player who has actively agreed to screwing over amateurs and minor leaguers should be denouncing this.
  3. We also had a thread a few weeks ago saying "let's wait for Correia to throw a few clunkers" and he was ok and saved himself. Why are we waiting for someone to further prove what we already know?
  4. It is not up to him to provide that context. It was a tweet, so doing so is impossible to begin with. Expecting someone whose entire career has been one of biting commentary to advertise "THIS IS BITING COMMENTARY!" before every joking tweet is really unfair in addition to being really unrealistic. The real context was his surrounding tweets and decades of his approach to sports commentary. It's up to you the reader to inform yourself of context, not him. If your sensibilities are offended, that isn't his responsibility to avoid. But you are more than welcome to avoid him if you don't like his schtick. Calling out his integrity? That's completely uncalled for and indefensible.
  5. In my eyes the Royals have slaughtered the Rays in terms of on-field value the last two years from this trade. Ultimately it won't be decided until we see how Myers' career plays out.
  6. My my are we a sensitive bunch lately around here.
  7. Cut/Option Matt Guerrier. Correia finally finds that hole I've been looking for awhile with him - it's not as nice as I'd like, but the bullpen will do for now. Call up Josh Brolin...er....May. Seriously...are we sure that isn't Brolin?
  8. Using satire isn't against the code of journalism. You're not obligated to like it, but he's not expected to avoid it. You are on a crusade to be offended by a joke whereas he has no obligation not to offend your sensibilities while joking. There is no mistake here, just a joke. One you have sought to turn into a mountain of integrity problems from the outset.
  9. Gruesome is an understatement. And that says nothing of the 55 minutes before that scene that were equally as captivating.
  10. My god has Season 4 been well done. We're not even at the usual penultimate episode (typically the best) and I've been utterly shaken by a few of the recent episodes. Really fantastic stuff.
  11. Henceforth, in an effort to make sure no one is offended ever about anything, we must all communicate like Ned Flanders. All jokes, satire, sarcasm, wit, euphemisms, and otherwise entertaining chatter is hereby banned under pain of death. Additionally, this will ensure journalistic integrity. (As long as you overlook "doodly" as improper use of the English language)
  12. I'm "aghast" at how lightly you throw around the term "clown" given how traumatizing it can be for so many. Seriously, I'm not sure there is anything worse in discourse than trying to dictate to people what they can and can't joke about because of some personal issue/experience you have. You're welcome to think it's a bad joke for your own reasons, but trying to control what he jokes about? This kind of moral scolding for satire is so oppressively PC.
  13. No, Koskie was trying to catch a foul ball pop-up down the line and crashed hard.
  14. Yeah, that sucked for Kirby. Hughes is "battling" today....I don't feel the need to stump about all the real battles our brave military is in. Its just unnecessary and silly.
  15. Perhaps you should rethink who is really giving up on Hicks. Throwing him out against superior competition to relearn a grade school technique? Sounds like throwing a guy who cant swim into an ocean with no life jacket. I struggle to imagine a scenario that would better illustrate giving up on someone.
  16. Its just sarcasm, the reactions here are really just being overally dramatic. We call the CF situation a "disaster" and no one is doing any gymnastics to tie that to real, deadly disasters. No reason to be that sensitive.
  17. So lets get the facts here: 1) Toxic relationship with management 2) Relearning something he hasnt done since puberty struck 3) Already overwhelmed by current competition 4) Has been subbed for with a career shortstop and backup catcher How does anyone still endorse the status quo? The alternatives suck but this is putrid. We are tossing a former top prospect into a shark filled, enclosed wading pool and people are justifying it as a good way to learn to swim. Baffling.
  18. And I clearly said it was a crappy option too. I just favor not harming a pivotal prospect's development over a few weeks of bad defense. (Hell, it's not like we aren't doing that already. Throwing Parmelee out there is barely any worse than Santana. At least one is actually an outfielder) It's funny, I keep being accused of giving up on Hicks. I'd argue forcing him to relearn something from grade school against professional pitchers is about as "giving up on him" as humanly possible.
  19. Perhaps you didn't read the original version that this was referencing then.
  20. The thing that really baffles me is this defense of "let him figure it out in the majors!" completely flies in the face of what the acting GM and manager have said is best for him! Even the leadership directly working with him think it's the best thing. I'm not sure why this is anything other than universally accepted.
  21. Kubel for sure needs to stop starting.
  22. I fail to see how this is a way out of the issue here. Any way you slice it he hasn't had the kind of success when the bat leaves his shoulder to indicate he should be learning a new skill against the best pitchers in the world. Let him see some AAA sliders in between (hopefully) mashing some AAA fastballs. I'll keep saying it: confidence is openly a concern for this kid. He needs the best environment for success for him and MLB pitching has almost a full season of proving that this level isn't the place for that.
  23. My only concern with Mauer's general approach is if the team unfairly compares someone with fire and spark as being a "bad personality" for him to mix with. As long as that's not happening I really don't care.
  24. Booing shows passion. It could be far worse. (Indifference)
  25. People are citing a sore back, but he's also talked openly about the concussion being difficult to recover from. He just seems like a trainwreck of physical issues. Remember when people said moving him would increase his numbers and that would justify the position change? Well now he's not even playing a premium position and has seen a slash in his production. I think I'm into full-blown concerned.
