  1. Seriously, reading comprehension. You actually make my point by listing a grand total of three organizations that would act differently. Most clubs would stupidly do the same for money and respect to a veteran. I wish the Twins were on the shortlist of teams that wouldnt, but they are far from alone.
  2. Most teams stupidly defer to veterans, just like the Twins.
  3. Republicans are too in-bed with some of the most cost-consuming parts of our budget. Namely, the military.
  4. I hope it doesn't last very long either, but the heart of the problem here is that Trevor May (a decidedly superior pitcher, especially of late over Pelfrey) got demoted. What else beside "defer to the veteran" could explain that? The Twins aren't the only ones to do this sort of thing, but damn I wish they were one of the few to buck this sort of "wisdom" and just do the thing that makes the most damn sense instead.
  5. Yes, but his expectations play a part in his standing. If he wasn't supposed to make it past AA this year, this isn't a huge deal. It's not good news, but it's not devastating. But a guy most everyone saw as a big leaguer by 2016 (mentions of him setting up for Perkins by the end of this year even!) gets demoted in June? That's a huge problem.
  6. Looks like he's got the wrong helmet on, that's for a lefty....amiright?
  7. Here are some links you should read if you think Burdi's demotion is just whining or impatience: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/16884-article-td-top-prospects-10-nick-burdi/ http://twinsdaily.com/topic/11003-article-twins-select-nick-burdi-in-the-2nd-round/page-2 This is about a guy that we had good odds of seeing in our bullpen this year being DEMOTED. This should be a big deal.
  8. I've never found that argument compelling. How do you gain confidence from being told "you're not good enough to face these hitters"? And this was not impatience. Seth Stohs - hardly one to be impatient - pegged him as a possible 2015 addition to the bullpen.
  9. Yeah, I'm referencing Pelfrey. I think Milone has earned his spot.
  10. I really, really don't like that decision. This just stinks of veteran coddling.
  11. I think I'll leave you in charge of finding that last sample.
  12. Where do the Twins stand relative to the rest of the league on cloning?
  13. Social issues do matter, but the truth is that politicians find all sorts of ways to cover their tracks from screw-ups or flip flops. From the best of my estimations, that's what it means to be a politician.
  14. Bullpen building has always been one of the best strengths Ryan has had, but it's also been a tightrope walk to make that happen every year. Was a tough year to have their method blow up in their face.
  15. From the second our second best reliever blew the lead our chances were minimal. It was our biggest weakness versus their greatest strength. The bullpen needs some friggin help. Now or all the positivity of the first three months are going to slowly get choked away.
  16. I'm getting a little exhausted with these threads Dave. The way this team is hitting and pitching out of the pen, these decisions seem like all they could do is delay the inevitable.
  17. Yeah, but Jim Carrey disagrees. So there.
  18. Just when my optimism wants to ramp back up.....
  19. You are claiming it to be "irrational", I don't think you understand what that word means. Using ERA is unwise, not irrational. But I don't think anyone can explain this to you, you've more than demonstrated that.
  20. In my opinion, Pelfrey should lose his spot. He's had a great couple months, but he's the right choice.
  21. Nope, but I might slow play. Again, you're talking probabilities in the language of certainties. Your method may be more reliable, that doesn't make it "irrational" to try something with less probability but still some success.
  22. And you seem to be missing there is a wide range of options between "all-in" and "fold".
  23. Just because something isn't the most prudent method doesn't make it invalid. You're speaking of likelihoods in the language of certainties.
