  1. It may be strongly worded, but I'm not sure it's profoundly untrue. The team takes a "little engine that could" approach and seems perfectly willing to just sit back. Most of what you went on to say is exactly the point being driven at here. The team is determined to win, I believe that about them. But I think they count wins 3 years ahead at the expense of wins in the present and that does require a lot of complacency.
  2. I really hate this argument. Look, if you want to put May out there....fine, but c'mon. He's pitched a grand total of 30 innings as a reliever and he was pretty good. It's hardly some kind of sure thing and it may have caused an injury to boot. Most starters convert better to the bullpen because their stuff isn't as exposed and they are matched up based on their strengths. It's a good bet that any of the guys you listed would also look much more effective as a reliever. How much better or worse than May isn't very clear, not to mention whatever degree better May would be is in a significantly fewer number of innings for the team. I'd much rather roll out Hughes, Duffey, May, Santana, and Gibson in the rotation and let Milone go to the pen. But we seem to have some kind of bizarre obsession with wedging at least one lefty into our rotation at all times.
  3. Damn look at this thread go! 9 pages by midnight - over or under?
  4. Being right heavy has skewed their splits the last few years. We just werent that good against righties. Sure, we will punish lefties, but we won't see them nearly as often. I think this could be an issue for the offense. It's why I'm Arcia's biggest fan this spring.
  5. I think either party playing BS games like this deserved to be called out. The Dems and Republicans both play this crap. But this has the highest stakes.
  6. I don't think it's broken, but it could use some polishing.
  7. Obviously Joe isn't reading this (and shouldn't be) for serious advice about what to do. But are some of you high-horsing about this issue really serious? You've never had someone come to you with a difficult health choice to talk to you about what they should do? I'm sure you always asked them what the doctor said or encouraged them to go to the doctor, but we often lean on non-medical professionals for advice and conversation about serious things. I can only imagine a guy like Koskie probably talked to his wife extensively about his future and his decision and she's not likely a neurologist. I don't think anyone here is under some false impression that they are the best person to be giving advice to Mauer, but likewise let's not pretend that people (especially athletes) don't need to hear from a variety of sources about their future to make the best decisions. And it's not always a doctor that determines their final decision on a medical issue. And, to repeat, we're talking about this again because Mauer himself laid this out into the public consciousness. He continues to let us in on this issue. (And, apparently, the front office for the first time)
  8. Cruz had repeatedly argued he can't/shouldn't.
  9. Pelfrey has no upside. As a Twins fan I heartily endorse their choice to sign Pelfrey.
  10. Didn't we anyway? And yes, Hughes was a much better upside move. I completely agree. It was one of the best FA signings the Twins could have done that year and I applauded them for it. But Correia? That signing remains indefensible because it had no upside.
  11. I wore a cup playing football and I'm quite positive Terry Ryan was not there scouting me. You may even want to bank it.
  12. My only point to make was that there was a pitcher to get that year that had more upside. The problem the Twins have isn't necessarily the "who" but the "why". They are content to go for virtually no upside as long as they think the floor is high enough, but in 2012 that was a really bad way of approaching it.
  13. I agree, part of me still wonders just what a Trump presidency would even look like because I don't believe a word he says.
  14. Yeah, that goes back 60 or 70 pages. If you think Ted Cruz is a libertarian, you don't know what the hell a libertarian is.
  15. Scott Feldman, Shaun Marcum, Chris Young, and others all represented better upside moves for the Twins. I included Marcum as an example that it doesn't always work, but Feldman paid off nicely for the Cubs.
  16. I believe Cruz's best description would be: lunatic.
  17. Would've been nice if he had turned my water into wine for free then if we're going down the messiah track. Could've saved me a few bucks....
  18. The other issue that the GE is going to hurt Bernie on is foreign policy. Republicans will pound that point and Hillary has far better groudn to stand on there than Bernie does. You can't just keep shouting "I voted against the Iraq war!" and think that is sufficient.
  19. I agree, but I wouldn't count on that as a driving force to win a national election. It won't work for Trump either, IMO.
  20. Some of his ways of paying for it make some sense, but overall he's going to have a hard time presenting those ideas versus a Republican.
  21. I think it's a connection to Bill Clinton. You're right that conceivably Bernie could do it, but he's basically going all out to do it right now and still getting very little support from black voters. Jim is right, his main attraction is young white liberals with the free college promise. Part of me seriously wonders if Bernie just smartly seized on an idea to exploit one of the things most hurting those of us under 35 to create a groundswell. I even believe he means well, but it's by far the most troubling part of his message. It's also the least likely, statistically speaking, to appeal to black voters. (Sad and wrong as it may be)
  22. You don't understand why they'd stay home? I'm not sure if you've been following over the last 20 years or so, but that segment of the voting populace is about as make or break as it gets. Especially in some of the swing states. If Bernie can't generate excitement in the black voting populace he can't even beat Hillary much less win the general. It's a problem he's clearly well aware of.
  23. Sanders doesn't have a chance because he can't turn out the black vote. And no Democrat will win if they can't do that.
  24. He generated as much money as anyone, so that financial support (if nothing else) goes somewhere.
