  1. And we actively hold car makers responsible for unsafe vehicles. We have strict laws in place for how children are to be transported. We have licensing procedures and background checks for unsafe drivers. We can get those for transportation vehicles but we can't for killing devices. And you're not even being asked to give all your guns, just yo have the one you need for protection and sacrifice the rest to save innocent lives. It's an easy freakin trade off.
  2. You mean the one where they cast a porn star?
  3. So, to be clear, you sacrifice a classroom full of first graders in a terrorized bloodbath in the name of having more than one gun? That tradeoff is acceptable for you. Because we KNOW that this does not happen anywhere else in the Western world at even a fraction of the rate it happens here. All you have to do to agree that no 6 year old massacres have to happen is turn over a few of your guns (not all even!) and you can prevent that from happening..... .....and you choose guns over those lives. Wow. Sadly, I think most people that share your opinion would do the same. And you complain about which side of the aisle is being "reasonable". Holy #*^#
  4. At this point I don't even believe Mauer, good or better, about where he is at health wise. Everything seems trumped up either way. I just hope he is productive. If he is - great. If he's not - well, then we need to start being honest about who he is now as a player.
  5. What? Are you intentionally missing the point? A classroom of 6 year olds was slaughtered because some maniac walked into his mother's house, took out a freaking arsenal from a cabinet or closet, and had the means to carry it out. If everyone agrees to have a hunting rifle and a box of shells, it never happens. If you refuse to limit yourself that way you are signing on to the reality that more six year olds will be slaughtered during math. If you can live with that, I'm nothing short of appalled.
  6. Many of these murders were committed with people carrying multiple firearms and duffel bags full of ammo. Like I said, you want a rifle and a box of bullets? Sure. I'm on board. Anything more and you care more about that trumped up right than a bloody classroom full of first graders. That isn't hyperbole, that's a real trade off you are making.
  7. I'd imagine up in your neck of the woods Sasquatch would be a justifiable reason. It's about as defensible as some antiquated militia amendment.
  8. The only meaningful legislation that could stop Sandy Hook is forcing you under penalty to hand over your guns. Ill admit it - I want your guns out of circulation. I would rather you choose to turn them over, though. I guess I have a funny conscience that I'd rather be content with no more children slaughtered in school and a limitation on guns per person than the current environment. If guns prevented violence, cops would have an easy job as soon as you arm them, but that's not how the world works. The only thing our gun proliferation guarantees is gun deaths. Nothing else.
  9. We won't be destroying the country. We'll be making first grade classrooms a place where bloodbaths never happen. Like the rest of the western world. Instead you clearly endorse the bloodbaths by choosing that consequence over the consequence of only having one gun rather than an arsenal. That trade off seems really easy to me.
  10. Give up all your guns but the one you need for protection. That goes for everyone. When that happens, there won't be a cache for someone to raid and go shoot a bunch of kids. As I said, YOU may be safe with them, but it doesn't take much for someone else to get them. Even more, your demand to have more than you need creates an oversupply in this country that makes them too easy to attain. The only way to stop 6 year olds from being murdered in their classroom is for people like you to give up the delusion that having 50 guns is protected by the second amendment.
  11. That's easily my biggest concern. I find my wife very intelligent and wonderful, if I'm suddenly on another stratosphere of intelligence, will that change? Will it change friendships? I know how much my current level of intelligence influences those things, but I'd be walking into an unknown if I doubled it.
  12. And we regulate cars. That's why you can't drive 120 down main street. It's why we insure people, inspect vehicles, and have a process for licensing people to use them. We fine and prosecute people for even the most mild of mis-uses. We have far more regulation and provisions in place to make sure of the safe use of cars than we do of guns. And cars are meant for transportation. Guns are made to kill.
  13. Yeah. And we should. They were *#$^ing six years old. At school. We should never stop talking about it until it stops happening.
  14. Maybe my intelligence will be such that I can invent a way to do the second thing and Kirk my way out of this dilemma! One other side effect of intelligence is that it can have a serious effect on your day to day life. Being THAT much more intelligent than others can be a personal detriment at times. Whereas, the physical choice pretty much reaps nothing but social rewards. I go intelligence, but it's a tough choice.
  15. Even if we allow people to have bazookas - they don't do a damn thing to stop a drone. I understand having a personal weapon to help you feel safe. Some kind of rifle or shotgun, fine. I personally don't get that, or feel the need to do so, but I can live with that. I could even understand having 2-3 hunting rifles. But anything beyond that is completely indefensible behind the 2nd amendment.
  16. If you want "a gun" - I might be fine with that. Even a high capacity one. But that's not what people do, they turn their basement into a Punisher safe-house because guns make them feel like they're tough and protected. And here is the thing that gun enthusiasts seem to miss: yes, YOU might be responsible and safe, but there are millions of people who aren't. That sucks for you, but it's the same reason a safe tiger enthusiast doesn't get one for a pet: there are too many idiots. Guns are lethal instruments of death. Having them proliferate our country means they are easily accessible to people that everyone seems to agree shouldn't have them. No matter how safe you are with your guns, the access to them is available for everyone and anyone who wants one. That's how one nutjob shot dozens of innocent 6 and 7 year olds while they were trying to learn. He got that gun because people who shout and whine and complain about their gun "rights" don't give a *#^$ if that puts lives in danger.
  17. Perhaps such radical measures wouldn't be necessary if we agree you can have one rifle, sufficiently fulfilling that right rather than a cache the Punisher approves of.
  18. Except, by definition, you probably didn't win "as many as possible" if you lost. Almost certainly you could have traded more or spent more money to have achieved that end. But I might suggest a more rational idea is to suggest that there be some nuance. You know, like the kind not granted to those willing to perhaps lose a few games in the short term to help invest in the development of the long term.
  19. You said you were being "subjected to Gay marriage", no? By all means clarify, but I think you will find, when you do, what I was railing against. I can't stand whiny liberals complaining about being "subjected" to viewpoints that offend them and the same goes for conservatives.
  20. Right but then keep the responses in context. The argument being advanced by some is "win at all costs", I'm not sure how you can go by that mantra and consider anything short of a WS title a "success". To me, those things go hand in hand if you're truly going to pound that stance of "win, baby, win".
  21. Entering into a society means you accept a mutually agreed upon level of care and concern for others that sometimes infringes on what you want or feel comfortable with in return for the greater goods you receive for being a part of it. And, seriously, unless someone is making you marry another man you aren't being subjected to a god damn thing about gay marriage. Get a grip. Like it or not, your purchase of a firearm potentially endangers the citizens around you. A classroom full of first graders were murdered because of a responsible adult who had such a cache of weapons that her homicidal son needed only to open the door and armed himself with the means to kill dozens of children. The proliferation of firearms in this country is at such a ridiculous number that what is really shocking is that we don't have a daily outburst of mass deaths. So, sorry, just like you don't get to buy a bazooka to get your jollies - you don't get to own whatever the hell you want, everyone else be damned.
  22. There are a lot of misconceptions about freedom. But one that both sides seem to share on various issues is the bizarre belief that freedom, within the context of a society, means getting to do whatever the hell you want, other people be damned. And that just isn't true.
  23. Easily one of the best shows of last year. FAR exceeded my expectations. And the episode about Mike's background was the best single episode of TV I watched all of last year.
  24. No, but you've liked the posts about "always win as much as humanly possible or else...." If you're going to endorse that sort of thing, I'm not sure how you can prize anything short of a WS.
  25. Well, you also can't have it both ways. If you don't make any allowance for the GM but "win, baby, win"....then isn't that the only way to judge a GM is by if they win the World Series? It's part of the problem if there isn't much nuance to how you judge the efforts being made.
