  1. Right, there is a lot of polling to show the vast majority of us have no patience for the right-wing approach on that issue. Ditto gay marriage and a variety of other issues. Hell, you see de-criminalization and loosened drug laws as a viable right-wing stance. It's almost as if they're scared to admit that being libertarian makes some damn sense. But it's that one really influential issue with older voters and hardcore Christians that just won't let them pivot enough to capture the interest of a very large chunk of independents they could be courting.
  2. I wasn't advocating all of that age group should die in any sort of systemic effort or anything.....I'm sure they're not all bad. But I'm also saying I'm not totally opposed to taking voting rights away from everyone over the age of 55 either. (I kid, I kid....sorta)
  3. I'm not holding my breath either. Not for another 15-20 years. I think there is a chunk of the base that just needs to die off as crude as that sounds.
  4. Correct, in other words - they need to embrace libertarianism. Many studies have showed a growing number of people who identify with less government/more freedom platforms. That's the angle Republicans need to embrace. Drop the social issues, focus on putting more money in the average person's pocket and cleaning up government waste.
  5. We still need that article talking about what a "floor" is.....
  6. Last year I was excited about Rosario and that worked out well. So I'm throwing my prospect hat in the Kepler ring this year. He brings so much to the table that this team will need. I, too, share the hope that he forces the Twins to rethink their outfield configuration.
  7. A lot of the other measures on fangraphs show him to be considerably below average. And, to the best of my recollection, that matched the ol' eye test.
  8. I don't think many of them vote at all. I've been trying to find in exit polls if they asked if they were first time primary goers. I thought that'd be an interesting trend to look at.
  9. Again, it's time to throw out logic and stop speaking in absolutes. The real question in the generals is does Trump carry the Republican base? If that segment goes apathetic, then I struggle to see him winning. But if it doesn't, if it passionately votes for Trump if for nothing else than to prevent Hillary from winning...then I really think you're trying to make the world fit what you want it to. Look, I may be forced to vote for Hillary just out of some hope that it prevents a Trump Presidency, but I have no clue what the general will look like. He's won the hispanic vote despite being a borderline racist. He's driven moderates and independents to the polls in droves. (Basically, pulling an Obama and getting a voting populace behind him that doesn't normally vote) He's got strong support from women for some reason I don't understand. I simply can't rule out that this bizarre trend continues if the Republican base rallies around him and he continues to pull this other voting segment. And all of that says nothing about what I expect to happen once he secures the nomination - that his tune will change dramatically. What that will be and the tone of it I have no idea, but it's coming. You can bet on that.
  10. That's exactly why I wouldn't count him out in the general election too. We're in uncharted waters where logic no longer applies, we're going to have to see this thing unfold.
  11. Cruz winning in Texas keeps him in the race which all but guarantees that Trump takes it.
  12. Some of the best writing in comic books in the last decade was Swamp Thing, so I agree, in the hands of a good writer, anyone can be compelling. But the very nature of the character bores me. And it was Superman Returns, from which I still suffer PTSD.
  13. Yup. Well, to the first part at least.
  14. I would hope that if they are moving him to the outfield it is with the intention of being permanent. If it's not, they are costing themselves time for him to develop his athleticism into viable play at 3B. If this is thought to be a temporary move with a return back there in the future or a switch back in case of injury, I think it's totally unjustifiable mismanagement of your personnel.
  15. Out of curiosity, by what measure do you think he was pretty good? I can't find much of any that would even put him in the "meh" camp. We'll have to see what kind of range he can produce. I'm not so much worried about his running ability or anything like that, but so much of playing the outfield is reading the bat off the ball, judging depth, etc. And that's something you learn to do rather than just use athleticism to fix.
  16. Didn't one Superman movie throw a whole planet of Kryptonite at Superman and the son of a gun still survived? I've never understood the appeal of Superman. I'm sure some people have written some good stuff, but the very essence of the character couldn't be less interesting to me. Human fragility and super-heroism is the at the core of why I enjoy comics and Superman runs counter to that.
  17. It's a pretty sad story that's stranger than fiction.
  18. Arcia winning a starting job. We need him to.
  19. The problem is the horse I'm beating just doesn't get it. If you're going to argue the rule is unnecessary, then look at where the problem started.
  20. The new rule is necessary when players have been allowed to fudge it for decades under the false pretense of being tough. It's been allowed to evolve into the nonsense of today, as all these things are when we use phony justifications to let real rules get blurred by unwritten ones.
  21. You're welcome to explain to all of us why Kang's broken leg serves to better baseball. Or Justin Morneau's concussion. Or any of the other injuries sustained by this practice. I, for one, like any sport that takes unnecessary injury out of the game by policing basic decency in the players.
  22. I don't worry about Sano's size at third or in the outfield. The point made earlier that athletes (and humans in general) are getting larger is a good one to point out. What concerns me about Sano's defense in the outfield is that he's never done it and is learning to on the fly as a major league player. I wouldn't care if he was 5'7 and 160 pounds, that would concern me.
  23. I prefer things that largely only result in player injuries being eliminated. I'd say it matters a lot that guys get hurt every year doing something not even close to a normal slide with the intent of hurting each other. I stopped playing baseball as a kid, but never was I taught that a flying leg kick was part of a normal slide. You do that to hurt someone, not play baseball.
