  1. Yup, invest innings in these kids when you can. The team needs to stop letting Milone get in the way of the future.
  2. If he can continue to make that adjustment like he did last night, then we can put this long slew of futility behind us, possibly for good. It would make Dozier a much more complete and dangerous hitter.
  3. That's an interesting take, I hadn't considered that. For me I always felt Melisandre would have a role, the two became pretty intertwined in the books and I thought the show reinforced that feeling last year. If that theory is right, what is Melisandre's role to play in this then in your opinion? It seems she's important in some major facet to the story.
  4. Yeah, let's hope the young guys do force some hard decisions. And let's hope the FO actually considers a decision should they do so.
  5. Great to hear, hope this is the first of a few moves that we can applaud rather than groan through.
  6. We shouldn't "blow it up", but we should blow up our front office.
  7. Well just because they drag it on 4-5 episodes doesn't mean huge chunks of time are passing. I know they typically try to show similar jumps in time, but you wouldn't have to. I also think this is a bit more of a unique resurrection than your average Thoros of Myr attempt. But it's certainly going to happen.
  8. I certainly didn't mean to suggest you're concocting it yourself, but until it exists it still is a situation we're imagining. It's hard to really imagine what that change will be sufficiently enough to start reworking the way we engage our economy and society. But I do think it's a bit difficult to swallow that we'll just suddenly not need jobs any more. More than likely what happens, if we followed your scenario, is that we'd have a large class of non-productive or largely consuming group of people and another class of people that were still working/servicing/producing. I have to imagine that divide would not endure as a pleasant one in which everyone enjoyed their role relative to the other. Specifically, the producers/servicers would pretty quickly resent the other class. So, not dissimilar to now in terms of class warfare but with a lot less people contributing to society. (Which, IMO, is a much more volatile powder keg)
  9. It's not necessarily the player, it's the stupidity of doing anything to make way for a guy who retires hours later. It just looks so bungled.
  10. Show Davos is such a strong character, I love every scene he is in, but I'm guessing what we all know will happen will wait until midseason and then we will see a very large role for these characters as the season ramps up at the end. So, yeah, lots of short check ins is my guess also.
  11. Yeah, it probably wasn't as thrilling as people wanted but it established all the storylines and provided some possible direction. Melisendre's situation will be very interesting but likely bled out over the season is my guess.
  12. They can be important for lineups and what you emphasize that your players do well. If you're going to get caught up in RBIs and other nonsense for that than I really don't want you as manager. I don't care why Maddon generally approaches things from a smart perspective...I just care that he does. I feel like Dougie would be going back to TK and I'm just done with that kind of thinking. The manager has been an issue so far, but it's the GM we should be talking about.
  13. We might be 9-9 if the bullpen hadn't blown 5 games. Yes, the offense is a problem, but at what point does that belief not also fall on our decision makers?
  14. Right, you can list hundreds of positions, it doesn't change law enforcement, nursing, doctors, and a host of other things. Seems odd to put the cart before an imagined horse, no matter how likely your imagination is to coming true. And you have me confused....people will line up to work out of the kindness of their heart but work is also an evil we are forcibly bound to? I can't overstate how bad an idea I think it is if large swaths of society no longer have any skin in the game of social contract.
  15. Food production will not be fully automated and even if such a thing would happen we're talking about a long time into the future. You're also basing your assumption on technology replacing humanity's need to work based on a model in which human's are actively creating that technology through their work. You're kind of undercutting your own assumption before it happens. We'll always have need for doctors and many other occupations and this model could significantly deter citizens from taking on those tasks. Also, this seems to be a very Wall-E sort of setup. Or at least it has that potential.
  16. Look - he may be a great clubhouse guy, but by most accounts so was Gardy. Is it so much to ask that we look for someone with the full picture? I still haven't given up on Molly, but the idea that Doug is "new" could not be more wrong.
  17. Remember when some of us insisted we be ready to hold the Twins accountable for their choices? Well, it's not even May and this thing is going off the freaking rails in a hurry. And their response is even worse than their initial choices.
  18. So only a select faction of people work? Teachers, doctors, engineers, food producers, etc.....we expect the production of needed goods and services to remain uninterrupted by the sheer force of good will? I love teaching and I bet most doctors love their job too, but if given the choice between spending time blogging about their hand painted Star Trek DS9 figurines or carving into people's bodies...how many of them will choose the high hours, high stress job? You may be talking about a total unraveling of the basic needs of society. It's also hard to project what kind of technology would be produced in the next generation if you suddenly and radically changed the work force and consumption model.
  19. Dougie M. is not a "youth movement" - as a manager he's stuck in a thinking pattern vastly out-dated. At least in terms of strategy and respect for statistics.
  20. The "requirement to work" is kind of an unfair way to spin it. I'm a believer in the basic idea of social contract - we work together to better ourselves and ask all that join in that endeavor to contribute. "Work" is really just one of the basic tenants of that contribution. If you want to give people a stipend to help eliminate poverty I'm open to that idea, but the devil is very much in the details. How does that get funded effectively? Does the math add up? How do you incentivize people to innovate and go above and beyond? Does it cause a shift in inflation of buying power that upsets the economic apple cart? Does it change the ways companies form and provide a network of resources for innovation? Does it cause a serious immigration problem? Frankly, I think something like this is best tried in a place like Switzerland for a long time before anyone thinks too strongly one way or the other. There are some factors to doing this that are hard to calculate and predict. I mean, hell, I'd love it if we all just agreed to so utopian, Star Trekkian model where everyone lives freely and easily and contributes out of a sense of duty, honor, and ambition.....but I've never been one to sign on to the idea that a utopia is right around the corner. Human nature is a sticky wicket for that hope....
  21. I think if you send him down now he could be back up by the all-star break. Give this kid 2 months of AAA pitching to adjust and then get him back here.
  22. I can't tell if you're serious about the working part mike. I'm not necessarily opposed to basic income, but the devil is in the details. And I don't think work is evil at all, for many it provides purpose and structure.
  23. Buxton needs to go to AAA for a bit. Roll with Rosario in CF - it isn't ideal, but right now we're not progressing Buxton's development at all.
  24. Succeeding in the majors often requires a lot of adjustment and some struggles. Let's start the adjustment process for some of these young arms. This team isn't going anywhere this year, time to invest innings and at-bats into the future and not mediocrity.
