  1. Yeah, he might have been better than Clete Thomas or whomever, but if we are going to keep calling up raw AA center fielders we should have a much better plan B. Hicks has been putrid, again, and wouldn't be doing this team any more favors than Murphy did.
  2. I wanted them to deal Plouffe and sign Fowler to play RF and be an option in CF. So, yeah, I agree that he's better than those two horrible options.
  3. I think he some value as a bench player, but his defense is overrated in CF (IMO). He'snot good enough for a plan B for a risk like Buxton, not for me at least.
  4. I actually like that lineup if you just pick up Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe and replace them exactly with Park and Arcia.
  5. You know who he is a lot more like? Jason Repko. Let's stop polishing Jason Repko into Torii Hunter. He's still Jason Repko. Plan B shouldn't be Jason Repko. Did saying that name four times plant it firmly enough for some of you to take real stock of what Aaron Hicks actually is and not what you want him to be?
  6. We should hold ourselves to a slightly higher bar for CF.
  7. There is a lower scrap heap than "traded straight up for John Ryan Murphy"?
  8. Look, I admire the amount of turd polishing you attempted here, but Aaron Hicks is just not good at baseball. I'm not sure how many hundreds of at-bats you require to demonstrate this, but we're at 860. And he's been putrid. We appear to have targeted another putrid player, but let's not pretend we gave anything up. The problem was that this was the solution to C and nothing was done to insure CF. Aaron Hicks and his god awful play wouldn't have sufficed as Plan B either.
  9. Well, let's draw the conclusion from this: We moved one of our best young starters to the bullpen (so we didn't have to spend *gasp* money!) so that we could continue to give a rotation spot to a guy that 29 other teams said wasn't worth giving a roster spot and 4M dollars. Good lord.
  10. No, they aren't THIS bad, but at that point we're splitting hairs about how bad is bad. Even if half the things on your list were suddenly sunny side up we'd still be a bad baseball team. The point is that if you're going to blame this all on "under-performing" you're giving the roster construction a pass.
  11. Perhaps all these "slumps" and "under performances" only look that way to an inflated set of hope-fueled expectations rather than reality?
  12. Give the Twins of the 2000s credit for this - defense doesn't slump. The fundamental problem with this team has been a rejection of defense in lieu of offense. If you field a competent defense you can generally avoid being god awful but this team has insisted on the notion that you can just move guys around any which way you want and still field a fly ball pitching staff and things will be fine. The "Twins Way" has lots of problems, but an emphasis on good defense was not among them.
  13. Yeah, I got myself all hyped about the big reveal too. The sword fight with Arthur Dayne was incredibly choreographed. I'm looking forward to watching that part again just to appreciate how amazing that guy was with two swords. I was glad they mentioned it was Howland Reed as well, I'm hoping that still has a role to play. (As I think it will in the books) So, yeah, that was a bit of a let down. But I think the full picture of Jon Snow is going to be a season long unveiling. I was wrong that they'd bleed out the resurrection, but I think they may bleed out his full role as Azor Ahai, the song of ice and fire, the Prince that was Promised are all to come this year.
  14. I feel like that episode played out the way most of us thought it would - the Khalasaar is all in one place to rally around Dany, Rickon was captured and is now in Ramsay's clutches, Jon died and therefore ended his watch so he abandoned the LC position - pretty much all predictions that were generally agreed were going to be the direction of the show. Interesting that Bran can interact with that past, I have to imagine that tidbit was important.
  15. And sometimes the game passes you by. Phil Jackson, granted in a new role, is finding that out. It's possible he's just not the right guy any more and it's time to move on. Unfortunately, I think the only man who can really make that decision is Terry Ryan and not his bosses. But it's time to move in a different direction as an organization.
  16. As Mike points out, when you are getting pressured to dial back and find positives it's really annoying to hear people trying to be positive when everything you were trying to vent about starts coming true (in some ways, even worse than expected). They called up Darin Mastroiannia, they shouldn't get any silver linings until they call up someone who might matter. Until they do something that matters. I know you don't like analogies, but sometimes when you know something bad was going to happen to hurt you and the person went and did it anyway...the last thing you want is them standing over you telling you it will be ok. You just want that person to go away so you don't revel in the crappy situation even more.
  17. I have no problem with religion, I love to talk philosophy and religion with religious believers who try to keep the Bible (or whatever holy text) in context. I often find their ideas much mroe interesting than atheists in fact. But I guess these would be my litmus tests....do you scoff at these and the ridiculous notion of the Bible being the direct word of God? Yes? Hey, then let's talk, it could be interesting. After all, Jesus is one of our best moral philosophers.
  18. It is, but we heard for weeks that the "bad offseason" comments were off base and unnecessarily negative. And responsibility for the poor 40 man roster construction and depth lies at the feet of Terry Ryan. So I'm not really eager to congratulate him on the speediness of his moves when he's the guy that necessitated them in the first place.
  19. Mastro is bad enough, but this cute little "hey, they're holding ineffective players accountable!" meme doesn't gain much traction if the next bullpen arm up is Boshers. I don't know how anyone can argue they're trying to improve their situation by calling up these guys. This is an indictment of an awful offseason and that rests squarely at one person's feet. (And I've generally been ok with Ryan, but this is it for me - time to move on Terry. The game passed you by as it does to everyone at some point or another)
  20. You mean....like Darin Mastroianni? You are trying the cute little silver lining thing, there isn't one - this mess is of their own making. We shouldn't be congratulating them for recognizing it.
  21. Son: I burned the house down again Dad: Again! C'mon man! Son: Yeah...but this time I went at it with a fire extinguisher for, like, at least 5 or 10 minutes Dad: But the house still burned down? Son: Yeah...but aren't you proud of me for the extinguisher this time!?! Dad: .........
  22. He didn't do it....God did. So, there wasn't anything that "couldn't" be done. And of course I'm going to second guess that - a dispute ended up with a guy unleashing two angry momma bears on people. I mean....cmon! This is what happens when you believe it is the literal word of God and not identify things as exaggerations and parables instead.
  23. Except Mastro is the "answer" to CF for the time being. I don't care how ducky and bunny your spin usually is, to be a "real CF" you have to actually be able to hit a baseball from time to time.
  24. I could care less that he's gone, but it does make bending over backwards to get him and keep him on the roster last year a bit of an issue.
  25. No, I don't think in any way, shape, or form that Sano and Arcia being passionate players is crippling this team. It's even more baffling to me that the proposed solution is Torii Hunter...a guy who was basically the same kind of player. Passionate and charismatic. So...no. I find that accusation beyond ridiculous and totally unfair to those two players.
