  1. Probably send down one of the 28 year old "meh" relievers we have been so preciously stashing down in the bullpen....
  2. The vote total for Cruz just reaffirms that the Republican Party still has too many social conservative whack jobs. Until they die off and make room for more enlightened thought, the party will never be cohesive. Gary Johnson was really good on Bill Maher the other night. I don't agree with all of his policies, but the guy is even keel, good natured, and relatable. I hope he makes it into the debates and shows a large field of Republicans that there is an alternative to being associated with the likes of Huckabee and Cruz.
  3. Well, if we can't have Arcia get another shot I'm happy to see Vargas get another crack.
  4. Nice video Bark, that was a good follow up to that argument on Maher's show. Too many Afflecks on the left that just refuse to see Harris' point. But he's right and we should be listening and not shouting "racist!" everytime someone talks about Islam. We can separate the absurd intolerance of Trump and the right wing thinking and rational, accurate critiques like this. And there are many that are threatened with death that need our support.
  5. We might get someone to buy low on Nolasco, hoping that a competent defense and a better environment might make for a bargain. But, yeah, Santana is mroe likely.
  6. Add Kevin Jepsen to the list of people that could've gone before Arcia. Ugh...
  7. At least we got RF figured out!
  8. They aren't mutually exclusive. You can not do both. 30 year old NL guys with 3 steady years of decline and sub-par defense are not the profile I ever want to invest in. Good for Texas, they got lucky. That's about all you can say.
  9. He has an OPS 200 points higher in Texas, that might help. Either way, this is a guy that was on a three year trend downward and never much to write home about defensively. I'm glad we didn't invest in that. I hope we never consider that a thing we should do.
  10. Oh cmon, give up your first for a guy with Desmond profile? No thanks. Good for him that he's hitting, but we would have eviscerated Ryan for this signing. Do we not have enough wrong that we have to make up things to rip the FO?
  11. I almost look at this like two parents who have gotten really good at gaming their kid into believing neither one of them is really making the decisions at any given time. Have mom in the room? Sorry, it was dad's call. Dad isn't letting you go to a friend's house? Sorry, mom's call. But just like mom and dad - the decisions are being made together. There is clearly a very firm payroll line that they accept and then it never gets talked about again. Ryan knows it, the Pohlads expect him to honor it but neither of them want to accept their role in it when pressed.
  12. But Neil Ramirez has compromising pictures man....we had no choice!
  13. Throw a dart in the general direction of the bullpen.
  14. And USMC wasn't the one justifying, by that logic your retort would be better served in an email to Ben Carson. Most voters have a bizarre framework, mostly selfish, for their voting habits. But the "why" is important if Trump is just going to be a fluke and not something we keep seeing come back in different forms. Or, worse, escalates and gains momentum.
  15. I find it funny, when people ask "Why Trump?" and then they get a string of answers....why is it the first reaction to go after the person relaying the reasons? Not that you did Chi, but it did seem as though you totally missed what his post was saying. Explanations are not justifications necessarily. I've seen this a lot lately watching some of the talking heads. People will cite interviews, surveys, and exit polls to answer the question directly and invariably the response is "Yeah but that's an awful reason!" Well, first, if you're explaining something that doesn't mean you endorse it. Secondly, sure, it probabyl is bad reasoning but lots of awful reasons have made actions happen before. I think it's valuable to look at the "why" without judging the person relaying it as if they agree with that sentiment. It's hardly a small faction of people propping this up and I doubt if Trump goes away that those reasons go away. We better get used to those reasons and see what we can do about it, if anything.
  16. Park was the right move, but it should've happened the last time a guy was ready to rejoin the roster. (Santana) Hopefully Park can adjust and contribute. The raw power is there, but if he can't be a factor for this team we're going to be regretting that move (and, more specifically, the reprecussions of it) for a long time.
  17. And I agree, I can't square those comments unless Ryan and the team believed they were ready. In that case, there are even deeper issues about player assessment going on. But these comments are not hypocritical in and of themselves.
  18. Yeah, it looks like Deng is the target. Deng is a good defensive forward, decent outside shooter, and is versatile. Probably looking at him as the 6th man. He could pose some matchup problems with the second unit for other teams if you're playing a group that has Bjelica, Deng, Shabazz, and Dunn.
  19. Not all decisions have piles of evidence to weigh either. Much of what is political is emotional and opinion based, which need not be in the realm of rationality at all. It's basically just a dumbed down "Philosopher Kings" idea and no one has believed that to be a good idea for a long, long time.
  20. I like that he hinted there are conversations going on about their being systemic failures in the organization. They may not do anything about it, but (weird as it sounds) it's a bit reassuring to hear the conversations are happening. As insulated as this group is, every little bit helps.
  21. This isn't hypocrisy. He's saying you don't call up Nick Gordon just because you're losing. You don't play people based on their age, even in a season like this, unless you think playing in the big leagues is right for them. And he's right. He's also saying you don't just knowingly play someone who isn't ready because it gets noticed. That's not fair to the player or the other players on the roster. And he's right. There is no hypocrisy here.
  22. There are so many systemic roster issues it'll take a season just to clean that up and let the dust settle. Hopefully we have an entirely new group of people running the show for that.
  23. I'll be happy if it's true. It's time to move on.
  24. I agree, the key then is to invest in placeholders that might generate some value when you're ready to move them. We've also done a poor job at that. Either way, I don't disagree with what Ryan is saying here. He's not wrong. But if you put a guy on the 25 man or 40 man roster than you need to have a plan for getting that person playing time when they need it. We've been really bad at that the last few years.
  25. I agree with Ryan. You can't take a "throw em in the deep end" approach to player development. But then I also can't square that with our CF choices the last five years.
