  1. To make the playoffs next year would require a near historic turnaround. Like, happened less than three times in recorded baseball history, historic. None of us want to give him up for a bag of peanuts, but whatever is out there now is the best it will ever be for Dozier.
  2. Some of those locally optimistic expectations belonged to you......*cough* MVP *cough*
  3. Of course it has to be for quality pieces. It sounds like that is on the table by most accounts, time to close that deal by figuring out the rest of it. But it does need to happen. Dozier's value will not be higher and any delay in moving him hurts the future.
  4. Given that 2016 was almost certainly Dozier's career year and he's entering his 30s, the odds of his value getting "higher" is zero. If we retain him our best hope is that he can continue to approximate his career averages as he ages and that he and his agent can be duped into signing a 1 or 2 year extension at a roughly similar price. So...yeah....I wouldn't bet on that. For this team to have the best chance to turn the corner, they need to find a way to make this work.
  5. That's what I was saying. They have to avoid making a bad deal and looking like pushovers. At the same time, Dozier needs to go. So they need to find a way to make it work.
  6. Was speaking about us as a warm and fuzzy collective, But you're right, I take issue with Nick's grades for the reasons above. I think they're generally too bullish, even for the offense.
  7. I agree, that's sort of the crux of the issue here. I don't want our new FO to look bad, but at the same time retaining Dozier is a huge step backwards for this team's ability to field a winner going forward. Ideally, we get a good deal and take that.
  8. Really? Hmmm, for me Buxton sort of makes/breaks this group. Also, I'm sort of merging this and the infield thread as I'm commenting since they are both about the offense and defense more or less. I also think we inadequately factored in defense in a lot of this. (Which was also quite bad)
  9. Taking whatever the Dodgers want to give us also means the first move of this new regime, much like Bill Smith, starts off on the wrong foot. I'm pretty sure that's a factor here too. But Dozier needs to go before this season starts. Or we're going to seriously regret it.
  10. Perhaps, but when people say we are also factoring in "expectations" I think that drops it a bit. C/D sounds better and we're closer to a weak B at this point.
  11. And yet our report cards have been solidly B/C........
  12. I hadn't heard that about Alexander, huh. And yeah, I play Bradford. Try to help the team feel good offensively heading into the offseason if nothing else.
  13. Obviously in doing something like this there is a lot of subjectivity, but I really wonder how much the exercise is worth when we say "The offense was average, so the grades should be average too" Well, maybe. But some of the guys we are tossing Bs at in this were talked about as MVP candidates. Or guys that would be with the club all year long and weren't. Or guys that had ups and downs. I have a hard time giving anyone on this team better than a B. Dozier doesn't even go higher than that because he was a miserable suckfest of a black hole in our lineup for the first two months. It's....whatever. This is all an exercise in our down time and all that, but I think we're a few months past the trauma of the 2016 season and we've somehow forgotten just how bad it was.
  14. I think they could have chosen a little bit more wisely in how they spun this is all. But I'm not sure it mattered. Until there is a real second suitor for him, neither team stands to gain or lose much from where they started.
  15. Good call on Treadwell. I want to see him on pretty much every snap. Here's a few I'll add: * David Morgan in as a blocking tight end on every running play * Alexander and Waynes getting extensive time at CB
  16. So do we root for a loss to the Bears so we have a slightly higher pick in each round 2-7? Or root for a win out of spite for the Eagles? I'm leaning spite....
  17. You're drafting kids and hoping that when they become men they are good players. There is bound to be a healthy share of luck in that equation.
  18. Well, might as well start one right?
  19. I agree, I prefer to take bats early. I won't fault the Twins for taking Stewart if they thought he was a potential homerun. I just wonder about that given who was in charge.
  20. And I'd argue the Kohl Stewart pick felt forced by the perception of "need". Do your scouting, pick your favorite kid, and if you like him best - take him. Position be damned. There are other avenues for acquiring needs, the draft should be about trying to hit homeruns (figuratively), not patch holes.
  21. Love that this is coming back. Along with Taboo and Legion, I've got some nice stuff to keep me entertained until Fargo and Thrones come back.
  22. Oh so you're going to trade three of them for a starter and then we'll have one starter? That's your plan?
  23. I think we all want to believe you, but your source was confident enough to put a 24 hour window on things and we're well past that. Perhaps your source isn't as close to the talks as they think. We've reached the point where skepticism is warranted.
  24. I think this thing is iced short of a turnover.
  25. 103 losses and people are worried about changing the make-up of the team..... http://www.bluehogreport.com/wp-content/uploads/facepalm.jpg?x17359
