  1. I'm eating serious crow on Granlund and loving it. What a player. Goes to show how much good (or damage) a coach can do to a player.
  2. These were interesting to read as well.
  3. I'm not saying it'll work that well, but the truth is that the Wild needed someone bigger than Haula so they can do what they really want to do to Chicago: Play Koivu's line against Kane and play Parise's line against Toews. That allows them to let Staal's big line pound on the Hawks much weaker third line while the top two lines are mostly negated. Hanzal gives them a player that can physically stack up with Toews and still be a threat. As good as Haula is, he's not a good matchup against Toews. Hanzal is a much better fit and allows for a lot more matchup problems for the Blackhawks.
  4. Hanzal's 16 goals would put him 6th on the team. This is intended to be Toews kryptonite.
  5. With this price I hope they find a way to resign him.
  6. I like Hanzel's fit with Parise and Pominville. Haula-Stewart-Schroeder is a nice fourth line too.
  7. Sounds like we ponied up for Hanzal. Steep price.
  8. By that measure GMS should never get credit for any prospect. Smith, in a few short years, signed Sano, Polanco, Kepler, and Romero. He was clearly willing to be more aggressive on this front and we are reaping the rewards. One more reason to be happy we have a new FO.
  9. Romero's our best shot at an ace at this point. If he becomes that.....than Smith's tenure wasn't just good at IFA, it was the most indispensable component of our successful rebuild.
  10. Which is all I said. And you immediately tried to pull the credit out from under him. In the last twenty years has Ryan signed any IFA better than Sano, Kepler, or Romero? Not that I can see. And if not, we should just stop where I cut your quote. Smith was good at this and we're damn lucky he was. Without Kepler and Sano we'd be staring 100 losses square in the face again.
  11. Yes, we have seen Ryan's signings. That's the point. And that was my original point - say what you want about his trade history (he bungled a ton of moves) but Smith aced this part of his job. And without that we'd be in serious trouble right now. And let's be clear - it's not just Sano. It's also Kepler and Romero as huge highlights. I find it odd that Bill Smith hit so many homeruns in his relatively short time with the same scouts Ryan had for two decades and produced nothing even close to these three. Bill is just really lucky at this? And more than anything...why is it so god damn hard to say "Yeah, Bill Smith did some things bad, but damned if he didn't do this right....thanks Bill"? It's absurdly obvious reading those gymnastics of yours how hard you're trying to not give credit to him when I'm sure in a few years you'll be right there to pat ol' Terry on the back if (by some luck) one of his signings actually pans out. C'mon.
  12. To put it bluntly, you wouldn't attempt gymnastics like this if it had been under Ryan. Take a second to consider how lost this club would be without the international signings under smith. Success the likes of which Ryan, with the same scouts, never even remotely approached.
  13. That Russian flag prank deserves a national monument. Well done anonymous prankster!
  14. When is our apology to Bill Smith scheduled? (Kidding....mostly. Yet another top prospect his aggressive international work produced)
  15. I think Molitor did plenty wrong....but how is it fair to say Molitor is to blame for two months of Dozier's season? That argument is so freaking ridiculous.
  16. Our pitching was. And it wasn't his call to sign a DH and move a DH to RF. And your bias is showing. You fault Molitor for Dozier's first few months, does that mean he gets credit for his last four? C'mon, you're just pulling stuff out to make the list longer at this point. Whether you want to accept it or not, Ryan has been the primary problem for awhile. I'm going to judge everyone else anew now that his influence is gone.
  17. Reports are that Peters is staying put. And there are already teams cutting their current tackle (Okung) to make a run at Whitworth. You're right, we can compete financially, but you're doing it for a pretty old guy at LT. There are so many teams with need at LT, I highly doubt Kalil will need to move to RT to get a contract.
  18. Well, or maybe he just felt hampered by his roster and thought that was the best way out. Or he might have just made bad decisions he needs to learn from. But I agree with you Brock, his recent comments indicate there was more disconnect/disagreement there than many thought.
  19. My wife's family is here. If we moved out of Phoenix at all I'd want to go back to sanity aka "Minnesota"....
  20. If Dozier improves on his numbers we'll know Satan is real and Dozier cut a nasty deal with him. I could see Baez outperforming him, especially with defense baked into the comparison.
  21. We don't need to bring Sano into this, there's already a silly thread for that.....
  22. The Reaper speaks.
  23. Rumor is Okung is being cut so the Broncos can pursue Whitworth or another OT. So I think this is a zero-sum move.
  24. This is the second time in a week that Molitor has publicly questioned our developmental processes in the past.
  25. Mauer sounds firmly in denial. Or at least he's selling it well.
