  1. Well this thread isn't at all what I expected. And not in a good way.
  2. Between that and the genetic tests bill the true conservatives and libertarians better take notice.
  3. TheRinger with an article on this.
  4. I guess I find hospitalizing a woman for multiple broken bones in her face to be pretty comparable.
  5. I would argue over the last 40-50 years both parties have done plenty of damage to the poor and less educated in their own ways. The Dems do at least talk about wanting to help though, I'll give them that. With the upcoming healthcare disaster I imagine this new class of swing voter (the disenfranchised middle and lower middle class) will probably oust a lot of these Republicans.
  6. I'm good with McKinnon and a rookie. Rookie RBs can contribute right away.
  7. I don't think you can prove or have data on whether yanking guys back and forth from the pen to the rotation can cause injury. And the Twins are far from the only ones doing this. That said, athletes train their bodies to do certain things, in a certain way, many times. I have to imagine for some players a change like that can be a precursor for injury. Whether it was for May or not is hard to tell, but I think he's said publicly that the bullpen role caused the back injuries and our resident medical expert has acknowledged there could be a connection there. Either way, devastating news. Trevor can't catch a break in his goal of being a major league starter.
  8. But Dave, you can't blast Peterson (rightly) and then find excuses for this guy. Lots of other talented RBs, don't even waste time with this moron.
  9. Teasing bastard....
  10. I hate to say it, but everytime I watch the Wolves play I become more and more convinced that losing Lavine is not irrelevant to this shift in play quality.
  11. There are plenty of good RBs, we don't have to even look at Mixon. Clemmings might make a really solid guard.
  12. That was a fun game.
  13. I will say this, replacing Kalil and whatever scrub at RT with Reiff and Remmers will make the Vikings MUCH more physical up front. That's a good thing.
  14. I maintain Kamara will be the best back out of this draft. This is a very deep draft for RBs, I wouldn't want to spend a single red cent on Eddie Lacy.
  15. From a little bit of reading, it sounds like Remmers was solid last year. I'll take solid.
  16. Yeah, public safety is probably a better way to phrase it so it includes pretty much all of this list plus the military. I look at some things as being the foundation for which the market can operate. You can't have a functional market without a healthy, educated, safe population.
  17. That's a good article. I use many of the same arguments against Republicans when they argue about letting the market decide with school choice. There are some things the market is not applicable to (or shouldn't be) - health care, military, and education come to mind as the top three.
  18. And it's a better way to spend your money. RT we can probably work someone in more cheaply.
  19. I disagree, but I admit it's speculation. I think the picture will be clearer in a few years, but my vibe on Ryan's tenure was that he did, in fact, underspend what was allowed. And that he made no effort to push for more allowance.
  20. I would suggest it's not about my faith or lack of faith in the Pohlads. (i assure you, I share your disdain for their part in this as well) I think this has more to do with the deference you give to Ryan. I see him as very much a part of the problem. Independent of whatever problems the Pohalds presented.
  21. Right. Yes, there was a budget of some kind. But the budget didn't say "Sign Tony Bautista and Rondell White". Terry Ryan made that decision. And he made that decision based on his own beliefs about contracts. To your example - we didn't avoid Sanchez because we couldn't sign him. We avoided Sanchez (and many other examples over the years) because that was "too much" for one player. That's Ryan, not the Pohlads. I also believe our total lack of splashy mid-season trades or offseason acquisitions to put us over the top also had mostly to do with Ryan, not the Pohlads. I also struggle to hear people say "Yes, Ryan was a penny pincher" but then allege, somehow, that his penny pinching ways didn't impact his total lack of IFA success. That doesn't jive. But these next 5 years might prove me wrong. I just wouldn't bet on it.
  22. Yes, that doesn't mean he couldn't go even further under that budget to impress his employers. Or live by his own belief about what should or shouldn't be spent. How many times did we hear Ryan over those 20 years talk about "spending the Pohlad's money" or something to that effect? Or the classic "They've never told me no to spending more money" line? Maybe "handcuff" isn't the right word, but I don't believe Ryan was ever pushing the limits. I think he stayed far, far clear of it in fact.
  23. Because it bought him the unconditional love of his employers and basically gave him a dream job for two decades? I struggle how anyone who has been a Twins fan the last 20 years could be confused about who Terry Ryan was as a baseball guy. He was smart, measured, approachable, genuine, and many other things. But he was also clearly old school about his approach and especially about money.
  24. I am and all my in-laws are Hawks fans so that only amplifies it.
  25. That was just speculation, I have no idea what would motivate him personally. I just doubt we were ever on the phone with him or trying to sign him. So I doubt we'd have had a shot without coveting him right out of the gate.
