  1. Right-handed shots are hard to come by, especially with his skill set. I guess I'd rather gamble another year with Scott Stevens takes the kid to the next level. Brodin is workman-like and solid, but you can find ways to replace that.
  2. Yeah, a Dozier extension comes complete with a giant neon sign that says "Debacle Ahead". No thanks.
  3. Scandella has a hard shot, he's a good skater, has excellent reach, and is physical. To me, he provides much more to the team than Brodin. I like Brodin, but if I have to lose one, that's the guy I'm choosing.
  4. Normally I'd agree, but there are elements to it that are helpful. I don't think running a bunch of Spurgeon-sized midgets with little physicality is a good thing either. I'd like a blend of skill sets. Either way, you're exposing Brodin as I would. And he's the guy they'd take.
  5. Those of you that love the old-school "hit em in the butt and that polices the game" mentality.... Are you satisfied with this suspension? It would seem to me if you truly do abhor things become ridiculous or dangerous, you'd be calling for much, much more in terms of punishment for this act. 4 games for a reliever is basically the same thing Sano got in terms of playing time. (Little more of a ding to the paycheck, but not much)
  6. I'm as big of a skeptic on Dozier as anyone, but I'm waiting until around the All-star game to judge him. He's just too streaky, but the floor for Dozier was remarkably low for a guy that just hit 40 HR. It was one of my biggest reasons for pushing a trade - it's really hard to know what to expect from Dozier. It's nice that Polanco is becoming as good a hitter as hoped and a much more capable fielder than most of us expected. It's made the non-deal much easier to handle so far. (Not that a few core issues aren't still there. Like, I don't know, the fact we have no pitching. That's kind of a big deal.)
  7. I take solace in the fact that we probably would've just screwed up Hu anyway. Like everything else.
  8. All the more reason we do need to be pressing China for alternatives. We know they want a leader there hostile to the west/pro China, but I'm sure we can find a better compromise than this whack-job. Because if he is allowed to stay in power and they do figure out their weapons program......then this scenario becomes not just likely, but almost certain IMO.
  9. Under, Ingram is still a Saint and he's actually good at catching the ball. Also, I bet a heavy under on "Peterson's sense of pride" right now.
  10. Id prefer to lose Dumba or Brodin before Scandella. Our D is too small already and we have potential replacements for Brodin and Dumbas skills, but nothing like Scandella. I'd try not to lose any of the young forwards at any cost.
  11. Oh, I'm sure a lot of the crew here would appreciate that. Share them here, that's far too rich to keep a secret!
  12. China is really the only means of stopping this short of war.
  13. Country Kitchen coupons ya think?
  14. 4 games doesn't even qualify as a slap on the wrist.
  15. I'd prefer to keep Marco, after that I got nothing.
  16. Read the post by gunnathor. He absolutely wants this stuff to escalate beyond the usual. If you want catchers getting trucked to watch baseball, I guess I wonder why you're watching baseball. There are other sports with that kind of action baked in, you don't have to contrive it.
  17. No, try some reading comprehension on that one again. Yeesh. Hint: I wasn't commenting on the video at all. I was commenting on the (bloodlust? what's the right word) tone of this post.
  18. I didn't make anything up, we were talking about escalation. I don't think that is limited to head hunting. There are lots of ways this form of justice escalates into violence and silly-ness. We've had all sorts of take out slides and that sort of thing escalate as well. If guys are in the infield fighting each other, I would call that escalation, regardless of how we got there. And that sort of violence is just unnecessary, in addition to being wholly contrived by the players.
  19. If what makes you enjoy sports is people willfully, violently hurting each other....why not just watch MMA or boxing? Why try to make baseball into it? I enjoy MMA, but those guys walk into the octagon knowing what will happen. Manny doesn't walk into that at-bat expecting to be beaned in the head. He's there to play baseball, which last I checked, doesn't require that. At least it doesn't when I watch kids play the game.
  20. Jim suggested these things only escalate 2-3 times a year. I doubled that with one video that is hardly a complete log of it. I don't know what the exact number is, but 2-3 is a fraction of the total. And yes, I won't apologize for thinking hurling 90+ fastballs at people's heads is always unacceptable and stupid.
  21. We'll have to find some data on it, but I think your number is way, way off. I mean, this isn't scientific, but it sure makes your 2-3 estimate seem way off.
  22. And certainly the second part is hard to prove conclusively, especially since we are dealing with intent. I'll have to see if I can find the article that tried to show it was disproportionate. My problem is that too often it escalates beyond a shot in the rear end. And once you do that and you're throwing punches or pitches at people's heads you are jeopardizing lives and careers over some really silly stuff. I don't think you can separate the two, escalation is a natural component to this kind of "justice".
  23. Gibson is a problem for this year. Buxton's struggles threaten the entire foundation of what we thought we were building.
  24. Right and that's sort of the real problem. If we could guarantee that every issue was handled with a plunk in the butt and everyone moves on....then so be it. But that's not how it works. It's a battle of escalation and, typically, latin players are more frequently and disproportionately the brunt of that escalation. It's unfortunate.
