  1. I am wary of trending down the "what could we get in a trade" road. But I'll say this: A good return with a Top 50 pitching prospect in it may not make you fall out of your chair. "Good return", thanks to Dozier this offseason, seems to have morphed into "blow me away" territory. A top 50 SP prospect and one or two other guys with upside is what I'd look for. The closer to the majors the better.
  2. And Rey is going to meet her true parents. As a serious aside...do true Star Wars fans feel cheated at all yet? That this entire three-part conclusion is borderline trolling?
  3. I find the two strategies very similar actually. I became a baseball fan because my grandfather always had the Twins on the radio or the TV. Just like you'll go elsewhere for your news thanks to that dumb decision by the newspaper, restricting access for fans will lead them to make other entertainment choices. Things they have to pay less for and have easier access to. And that has long term ramifications that may not be immediately evident. The radio package isn't intended for your average fan, it's for your diehards. Why nickle and dime them?
  4. Right, the only difference between me listening on my phone and me listening from a radio in my car is where I'm at when I do it. If I'm in my car it's free too. I don't pay a subscription.
  5. This. I have kids and live on the west coast, the opportunities to sit and watch a game aren't plentiful since they come on at 5pm. If they offered me a way to buy it for a buck a game or something I'd consider that, but they don't. And whole-heartedly agree with you on the last paragraph. It's in baseball's best interest to waive that $20 and let people listen for free on their phones. They aren't boosting their profit margins with that, it won't hurt them to waive it, and they'll be providing a free, nation wide way to keep their fans engaged in their product. Instead, like many things with digital content, it seems the principle of "We can't give it to them for free!" overrides basic common sense. Instead they scrape the bottom for pennies and alienate people instead. And worst of all? People will still find ways to skirt the system for free anyway.
  6. Saying "He's off to a nice start" is not the same as "Oops! We goofed on that trade!" Hicks has had a couple nice days so far this year. Good for him.
  7. No, but a fun thread nonetheless! It was after a two or three game hot streak Hicks had, Dave jumped on to say the same thing. I just can't find it.
  8. Man, I wish I could find that thread from last year........
  9. You will badly lose that bet. He'd have to increase his best single season OPS by about 25 points to do that. And I do think the Yankees hitting coach has it figured out! By the numbers Brock posted, it looks like they correctly deduced that Aaron sucks at hitting a baseball. So best to just stand there and hope they walk you.
  10. They may have rushed him, but that doesn't make Aaron Hicks a good baseball player now. Because he's not. You did the same thing with Hicks last year when he had a nice 3-4 day run and how'd that turn out? If the biggest complaint was the team needs a better fourth outfielder that hits lefties - they come pretty affordably on the FA market. And you can pretty easily find one that will out OPS .617 too.
  11. The only relevance Hicks has is this question right here. Otherwise he's just not a very good baseball player. We traded him for another guy that isn't a very good baseball player. That isn't a trade either team wins or loses because either way you're stuck with a bad baseball player.
  12. Hey, give Hicks credit! He's realized swinging a bat at a baseball for hits isn't his specialty. Standing there and hoping might give him a shot at cracking the elusive 70 OPS+ barrier...
  13. I wouldn't say he is "due" anything. He struggles consistently making contact and his failure to produce effectively is a pretty established trend. I get people wanting a better 4th outfielder, and I agree, but Hicks is as putrid as board whipping boy Santana and yet this thread is lauding his brilliance. Amazing.
  14. That's a lot of praise for a guy with the 6th worst OPS for players with over 350 ABs. Clearly he can't translate any of those assets into meaningful production for his team.
  15. I didn't realize one game can be used as a means of measuring a trade..... You'll have to excuse me if I doubt Hicks and his .600ish OPS was going to sit all that well with you if you were watching him flail every day and not from afar.
  16. Aaron Hicks and Danny Santana are roughly similar offensive players. Danny Santana has "tools" too. At some point you're just not very good. It's quite possible this trade was just two bad players being swapped and no one got lucky because they're both still bad.
  17. Awww..this is cute! Is this a yearly tradition now? Cuz I remember this from last year too and Hicks ended with a .617 OPS and 65 OPS+. Over/under on him topping 70 this year? I take the under.
  18. Mauer was never much of a pull hitter. His age is an issue, but it's exacerbating a long-standing issue of rigidity in his approach. So, IMO, it's both. Had Mauer made more adjustments along the way the last 3-5 years, teams wouldn't be overplaying him as much as they are now. But Mauer has always been more content with his approach than his results. And that is the true root of the problem.
  19. Keep it up Ervin. It'll make for a fun end of July!
  20. Nah, their third and fourth lines are below average and Oduya is a skating mistake factory on the second pairing.
  21. There may not be good answers to the leadership issues, but Suter is the change I'd target. My guess is we do nothing though. Nothing significant.
  22. Reverse psychology I hope. (This Hawks team won't make it past the second round, you can book that)
  23. I honestly don't know. But a trade a lot like the Subban-Weber deal is the sort I'd look for.
  24. I think the way you move Suter is to find a team considered to be a Stanley Cup contender and find a fit. That way he is moving to a team that gives him a Cup chance. At this moment I have no idea who that would be, but I'd make it happen. But it may require a new GM to shake it all up.
  25. I too would rather hang on to Parise. I'd shop Suter heavily this offseason though. It's time to change some of the leadership on this team and I think I'd start with him.
