  1. I think it's possible. She's a strong candidate - she's tough without being abrasive (unlike Bernie, for example), smart as a whip, comes off as a genuinely nice person, has centric/deal making chops in Congress, and seems to be without any noticeable flaws to attack. Does she move policy enough? I'm not sure, but I think she's a damn fine candidate to take the Presidency.
  2. That's a fair criticism. Is Klobuchar that person?
  3. The NFL is preposterously slow to drop unfounded, pre-conceived notions. The "you have to have a 6'5 QB" is one such notion. He is short for the position, but what matters is what he can do with his arm. Also, it should be noted, he played behind an NFL sized OL. Didn't seem to make it hard for him to throw....
  4. Absolutely has to be tied to revenue, for sure. And a cap floor as well. But something has to be done about the spending disparity. The argument is that any given year small market teams succeed, but over the long haul it's a massive advantage to a few markets.
  5. They pushed subtly. The left is not as good at that. I agree though, keep talking about universal healthcare. And I'm ok with making it a major platform, but it's not what you talk about, it's how you talk about it.
  6. To their credit, many of the people running right now are more pragmatic and centric than that. But I agree, as much as some on the left want them to go full left in their rhetoric, they are best not to do that. Stay moderate and centric and then use your election wins to move policy left. If you put your rhetoric before your election wins, you'll never get to change policy.
  7. Well, I'd prefer to see MLB start sharing all revenues and make a large cap number, but it is probably a pipe dream. I don't want to see billionaires make out on all the fan's money, but I also hate the fact that the Dodgers or Yankees can pump tens (hundreds) of millions of dollars more into their product than we can. That advantage is beyond just the 25 man roster, it extends up and down the organizational process of developing talent.
  8. This might be a great argument for the salary cap as well.
  9. At this point I'm wondering what a proportional effort as a fan looks like relative to this organization's off-season effort. XFL is back right?
  10. The fact that I got all of those comic book references seems like something I shouldn't be proud of anymore. Hang on to the Claremont issues kid, they're gold.
  11. I'm not sure how I feel either. Weatherly was ok at times, but I'm not sure I feel good about him taking over that job either. It would open another spot the Vikings will have to fill and typically one that's expensive to do so.
  12. I mean, it hasn't happened yet, so it still might be a restructure. I will shed no tears if Rudolph is cut, he brings nothing worth paying for to this team. That said, if Griffen is cut....do you resign Barr and make him one of your rush ends?
  13. They get a little bit of a pass for me because Ryan left this team in such a dire situation as a modern baseball team. But I was also critical (often) of that regime for exactly that. I find that many that defend the FO (and those too critical also) are in their camp regardless of what the situation is. Thing is, you don't get to tell us to "slow down, it's Ryan's fault, things are great now!" when you were telling us "slow down, it's Smith's fault, Ryan's back and things are great now!" right to the bitter end. Sorta a credibility killer right there. I like what these guys have done righting the wrongs of our minor league system. And I hope they have something up their sleeve with Perez, but they are losing time for me to be patient with their player acquisitions via trade and free agency.
  14. There were trade options as well, in addition to FA possibilities.
  15. Well, shouldn't you wait to see if Stewart translates that into actual success for the team? I mean, it's great he feels good, but players tell us how great they feel all the time about a change in their approach and it's far from a lock it works. The point about a second starter is that if Perez is their last addition to the rotation , it's still a dicey group. I doubt many people feel especially great about Berrios-Gibson-Pineda-Odorizzi-Perez-Mejia. I sure don't.
  16. The Twins wanting him is not an indication of a good process either, because you have no idea (and neither do I) what that process is or if it's sound. Ultimately that is decided by results as well. It's ok to say you don't condemn the move yet and want to wait for results, but that's different than giving them credit for seeing something and wanting a player. They can see whatever they want, if they can't manifest it....why should any of us care? I need to see them get more results in the big leagues with moves like this before I just automatically buy-in. I don't want them fired for it either and my complaints stem more from the context of his signing than the signing itself.
  17. Well, the move turned out poorly. And they don't get credit for signing Sanchez when they also chose to release him. I too hope their moves work out, but you don't get to give them credit for merely wanting a player. They get credit or blame based on how their moves ultimately work. I think more people would be ok with Perez if he was the second SP they signed. Not the only one.
  18. Parise and Suter are both playing well. If you have any chance of getting them off your payroll, now is the time to try. I don't think it's possible, but try.
  19. In football the gap between plays is the only "inaction". But you are virtually guaranteed action will happen after every play clock interval. You are not assured the same thing in baseball. From the time the first pitch happens to the end of the at-bat could be several minutes where very little is happening. And if a guy gets on base, you might see even more time that is milked between when he got on base and a baseball play of consequence from the next batter. Football simply does not have that kind of down time. Squeezing those step offs, throw overs, batting glove adjustments, time outs, standing and watching the signs, shaking off, etc. would do enormous good for the game. Whether it makes a sizable change in actual game time or not I don't care, the perception of speeding up the game will go a long way.
  20. Thing is, it's not really "strategy". I can't think of a comparable analogy in another sport, but it'd be like forcing your kicker to play QB for a play and teams punt the play before just to avoid the awfulness of it. That's what most of the vaunted NL strategy boils down to: how do we give up outs or topsy-turvy our lineup to avoid this awful thing that isn't at all like actual baseball.
  21. I'm not sure many people would agree with you that the time between plays in football is at all comparable to the time between action in baseball. If you count a football play vs. an outcome to an at-bat there is FAR more downtime in baseball. If you're trying to count a football play to the time between pitches....then you're unfairly comparing apples to oranges.
  22. Gotta blow this thing up. Mikko isn't the backbreaker on that or anything, just should happen anyway.
  23. It doesn't solve all your problems, but reddit streams are a beautiful way to say "screw you" to sports leagues and get to watch your favorite teams.
  24. I'm for the pitch clock. Universal DH needs to happen. There are only emotional arguments for having pitchers bat (like, "that's how it's always been", "I like it better") whereas it's an objective fact that having pitchers hit leads to terribly unathletic/non-competitive moments in games. Any arguments about "strategy" really boil down to one thing - in the NL, you try really hard not to have those moments happen. All you're strategically doing is avoiding the thing you say you want to keep around - pitchers hitting. So just do away with it. AL managers still use the hit and run and (too often) the bunt. They just use those strategies in an effort to score runs rather than desperately avoid some hack with a .150 batting average.
  25. The Twins wanting Perez doesn't say much. They wanted LoMo too, does that somehow make it a good move. Ultimately whether they are bad or good at their jobs is determined by who they want, not whether they wanted someone. It's a pretty silly distinction to make.
