  1. If he is delegating, I don't recall a lot of those Broncos lines being built on first round picks. The starting line for the 1998 Broncos had the highest pick at 67th. Schlerth was a 10th rounder, Nalen a 7th, and the tackles were undrafted. So, if that is the case, we may end up taking guys in the middle rounds if past history is any indication.
  2. Because your scenario takes a number of factors out of the trade that are relevant: like the performance of the team, team control, etc. Context matters a lot and rarely can you push that hypothetical fairly without a ton of caveats. It may well end up a bad trade. But we could go get Sam Dyson right now and we'd all feel a lot better right? Ain't the end of the world.
  3. I wish there was a way to access the demographics of ticket-buyers over time. My family has gone from regular baseball game attendees to completely absent. I wonder if we're unique in that regard.
  4. That was my take away from that as well. I get the nobility of Greyjoy asking to right the wrongs of his past, but how did anyone in that room approve of the freaking Iron Born having the most critical role in the plan?
  5. How would you price control that? I have two main issues with the "free college" idea. First - the lack of controls put in place with the loan system were precisely what caused this spiraling. I don't see anyone saying anything about that. Will colleges be forced to accept funding on a per pupil basis? Are we going to cap student enrollments? In other countries where colleges are free they have a much smaller number of students going to college. And those questions lead me to my second issue....how is that distinguishably different than high school? If everyone goes.....and it's free.....and colleges get paid per pupil.....isn't that just high school but you aren't limited by geography? And won't that dilute any value of going to college?
  6. Right now the MLB demographic is old (45+), white, and male. They're the only segment of hte population with money to burning, which is why we havne't seen the breaking point. Yet. Because the people they need to replace those old white dudes are turning to other places because of the cost and a variety of other issues with baseball. At least that's my theory.
  7. The plan to draw out the Night King was a frustrating scene. They showed us designing the plan but clearly there is more to it than that right? It's Dany and Jon on the dragons that come to get the NK when he shows up right? Otherwise, all the show told us is Bran and the Iron Born will take care of it. Showing us any of that scene, without telling us the entire plan was frustrating. Great episode, I'm quibbling.
  8. I can understand your concerns with the mechanism certainly. Though the Trump tax cuts account for almost that entire amount. It's not that I demand things for free either, I'd be ok just paying the principal balance. But this problem was one the government created with a terrible system, it doesn't make sense to punish the economy and millions of people for their mistake either. I get not liking the "give stuff for free" mantra, but at a certain point the greater good outweighs things. For me, it's the same logic behind universal health care. We're better off, as a people (and probably economically) if we hit "redo" on the whole thing. Short of wiping away the crappy old system and starting fresh, I don't think we do that successfully.
  9. I would just suggest that perhaps you've let those personal experiences become a brush you're painting far too broadly with. The poor folks in Louisiana were attacked because they were Christian, but you seem to have equated all acts of racism and white supremacy with Christian. Frankly, that's just way out of line with reality. But I totally understand the bitterness with religion. I share it and I sometimes have to remind myself not to let it out. Case in point, we're in the adoption process and here in Arizona we have to take a class to be licensed and it is super churchy. As in constant Bible references and conversations. It makes my blood boil and annoys me, but I have to remember it matters to these people. It's their reason for getting involved to help kids and I have to let my own disdain go. It was making me irrationally upset in the classes. Maybe you've let your personal feelings push you past the point where your opinions no longer have factual validation.
  10. if one of the elite defensive front players fall - I would be ok going best player available. Otherwise, draft offensive line. Jonah Williams is the best lineman, but I wouldn't take him at 1. I like Williams, then Dillard, Ford, Risner, Lindstrom in that order. They would all be worthy at 18. I'd love it if we got Ford at 18 and then traded up in the 2nd for Risner. Those two are both zone blockign guys with a ton of nastiness.
  11. Studies show that a tiny fraction of those people actually get forgiveness. To the concerns about fairness,I haven't had to see a doctor in 15 years. I've been getting screwed by medical premiums (and will continue to do so) for years paying for people that are less healthy. That isn't a justification against doing something right for millions of people. I don't get to say "You unhealthy people pay for for your own medical, I take care of myself" as an argument against universal health care. I accept that my circumstances allow me to be healthier, but it's better for everyone that we have it, even if I don't gain anything from it. Student loans are crippling economic spending power for millions. I'll even pay them back....but end the interest payments at the very least. But if you get rid of them? We buy a new car tomorrow. We hire someone to redo our backyard tomorrow. We go out and buy a bunch of new stuff immediately. The economic shackles would come off in ways people are seriously underestimating.
  12. Optimism of any kind these days is starting to look so naive it's adorable.
  13. In my opinion, bleeding fans dry is a huge problem for baseball. All sports are overpriced, but relative to games played, baseball is pretty unique. Pretty soon they are going to be trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip. I hope more people, even if it's done as absurdly as St. Peter did here, realize the problem and reverse course soon. Or in our lifetimes baseball will be the new boxing or horse racing.
  14. In fairness, they are probably two different conversations. But, yeah, it's a strange day to make that flimsy argument.
  15. Pretty sure concession prices were ridiculous before any minimum wage laws.
  16. The CSIS link embedded in that article is harrowing. It's well worth a read but you won't feel good about the world when you're done.
  17. I instantly thought of this thread too when I saw that pitch,
  18. Your Tennessee and Louisiana examples were both false. The Louisiana one was especially egregious. Seems to me you drew a conclusion and sloppily went looking for justification.
  19. I think you're making an inaccurate claim that these people think they need a god to ordain their racism. Some do, many don't. Anti-semitism absolutely has deep roots in Christianity, but it's also existed quite independent of it. Either way, I don't think we're going anywhere, but I do hope you at least rethink your stance given how blatantly false some of your justifications were at the start. Perhaps you're looking too hard to find something you want to be there.
  20. Look at the more outward examples though. The chants in Charlottesville were largely non-religious. They were racist, homophobic, nationalistic, anti-semitic, and a variety of things. But I can't find any evidence that Christianity was envoked much. Where I agree is that Christianity needs to do more. I liked this particular piece. But the real problem, in my eyes, is White Supremacy and Nationalism. Their church is 4chan and their threat of terrorism is real. Where Christianity has blame is in not doing enough, not in being embedded deeply in this threat. That distinction may not be important to you, but it is to me. I firmly believe we do more to fix problems when we work harder to identify their root causes and avoid conclusions we want to draw.
  21. I can understand that, even relate to it a bit. Not sure it's part of the "creed" however. Either way, you may want to consider whether you are being fair in analysis given just how far off base some of your examples were.
  22. You're trying to wed two distinct problems (that overlap at times) and you simply don't have much grounds to do that as evidenced by how you had to pad your examples with some that were clearly false. I have plenty of problems with Christians, I don't see the need to invent more.
  23. Dave St. Peter is a master at acting like it's a mystery how things happen that are directly under his control.
  24. In fact, the Louisiana jerk seems to have made this about attacking Baptists. Along with the clearly racist motivations.
  25. The attacks on women's health clinics and Dylan Roof are absolutely Christian terrorists. Some (maybe most?) of the attacks on Muslims probably fit as well, but that'd be case by case. From what I can see they never found out who or how the fire in Tennessee happened - do you have some personal knowledge google doesn't to make the leap you just did? It also seems odd to me that Christians would be using their religion to terrorize Christian churches. You are lumping racism and violence with Christian and your evidence (other than those first two) isn't even good enough to be called flimsy. Many Christian sects are awful, homophobic, and backwards. However, I think you took your claim a step farther that facts do not justify. White Supremacy is a real and dangerous threat, however. To that I would make no argument.
