  1. Weren't you the one that told me people understand how to use WAR? You know, as a comparative tool best used over a larger sample size?
  2. Using WAR to explain away a fragile health record seems like a copout to be honest. The truth is, to be what we want him to be, he's going to need to be on the field. His WAR doesn't help us much on the bench. I have serious concerns about a 30 year old SS with declining defensive metrics and a brutal health record continuing to put up the same production.
  3. I don't disagree it's probably a net gain (if Tulo stays on the field, I'm going to keep emphasizing this because it is a much bigger factor than anything else IMO), but if I'm going to give something to help me now, I'd rather focus on giving things that aren't helping me right now.
  4. I don't see how cherry picking Gibson's best is any different than the Tulo people choosing to utterly ignore the guy's fragile health record the last 4 years. I like Tulo and for the right package, I'll take the gamble. But it IS a gamble given his problems staying on the field.
  5. Chief's point was about what the Twins thought of him. It's hard to make the case the Twins want him at SS when they repeatedly chose to play Nunez there instead.
  6. This is a rather large tough part that sort of undermines the "win now" aspect of doing this trade....no?
  7. No one is immortalizing Kyle Gibson. He's just, you know, sort of important right now also. SS aging curves and Tulo's injury history are a very stacked deck against this move long term, but you hurt your short term goals to give up one of your better starters to get him. Could there be a net gain? Sure, but why would you do this for anything other than prospects?
  8. With his injury history? Um, yes. Yes it does. I also fail to see how giving up one of our better, younger starting pitchers moves us forward.
  9. So because some people aren't enamored with Gibson, we should move him to get Tulowitski? An older player who has had trouble staying on the field? This is somehow supposed to get us closer to....what exactly? Another year of Mike Pelfrey? I fail to see how that makes even an ounce of sense for accomplishing something this year or in the likely window with Tulowitski.
  10. Yeah, I somehow goofed on that. Even still, three of the last four years have not been positive in this regard. That really worries me.
  11. A package lead by Berrios I could see, but not Gibson. That would be an instant deal-breaker for me.
  12. Frankly, to hell with WAR in a situation like that, it's not the best use of the stat. If your best player can't take the field that often it's a problem and it's unlikely to get better with age.
  13. I gotta say, some people are making solid arguments against the home/road split "problem". But the biggest issue is still the fact that he's only made it to 500 at-bats three times in his entire career. Only 300 or so (and sometimes less) the last three years. That's the scariest part.
  14. I love the idea, but I'd be lying if Tulo's injury history and splits away from Coors didn't give me pause at the price tag to trade him.
  15. Given the money spent by Seattle I don't see them selling off young pieces. I think they'll keep firing bullets in FA to get the team contending.
  16. Boy have things changed quickly at this position. (For good and then for bad again)
  17. I don't know, they are good questions to ponder. But I think our contending wagon is partially hitched to Buxton so I think it's going to be really tough to deal him. I also think he starts 2016 in CF, which means we should look to deal Hicks or Arcia for other needs soon.
  18. I think you take that chance with Buxton. Look - the reality is, we're going to have to take a serious risk in order to fix the position. Unless anyone is crazy enough to think we roll out the Brinks trucks to Wieters' house this offseason? Anything other than that is going to require some risk. I think Hicks for Norris is one of the least risky paths we could take. (It allows us to keep Plouffe or use him for another purpose for instance) All it requires is a leap of faith in Buxton.
  19. Great point and look no further than those hilarious Houston offers leaked a few years ago to see it in action.
  20. Plouffe for sure is an offseason move. I'd consider Hicks for Norris now.
  21. I still think Hicks for Norris is the beginning framework of a deal. I also think Plouffe should be shopped. I get the hesitation, but with his age and approaching FA decision, I think the possibility of swapping him for a SS or C is prudent.
  22. Had the team opted to trade him last year, there was quite a bit of catcher movement this offseason we could have indulged in.
  23. With Sano in the middle the lineup would balance out tremendously with a leadoff guy that could force Dozier into the middle of the order. But that's also likely where we want Buxton.
