I looked at Montero heat charts, looks like he likes it up but small sample size. He probably didn’t get it in as far he wanted but it was way, way up. Little bit unfamiliar hotter, little bit holy crap how did he do that.
The pitch that Diaz just hit was much more meaty.
As intriguing as a normal pitcher with a knuckle-ball is what are the chances that's the pitch he has to give up? Interested to watch him in Wichita next year.
I will also be curious going through the off-season as details come available how much of this was the plan vs backdooring a flush draw.
I like it as a strategy given the personnel available but they wouldn't tell us if it was a plan ahead of time as it's fairly unique.
I was advocating for stocking the bullpen as much as possible at the trade deadline so they could try to pitch their way through but this isn't exactly what I envisioned. It is turning into a viable option it appears.
It's seems Varland, Maeda and Paddack can really sew up the middle innings in multiple games. If a starter manages 6 the game gets really short quickly. Even 5 from the starter works well. Then play match ups to get to Duran. It might just work.
There will be a certain number of innings that need pitched regardless, if they can get two at a time from a section of the pen they might have something of an advantage.
The English language would like a word. As good as it gets would, by definition, include Rivera. Maybe we can talk “As good as it gets, non-hall of fame or active player edition.”
As much as I love Duran, I dislike internet hyperbole more.
Maybe so, but as the last arm his presence matters and can help off the field. He's pitched in 9 different post-seasons.
In a positive blow out he can eat a few.
I've grown oddly comfortable with Kuechel making the postseason roster. I don't see a place where he would be my first choice, but I see a lot of places where it might be nice to have him.
Why? When he's available he can run. It's the next day that's the problem. This is the playoffs and he probably hasn't had his last shot (of cortisone).
Even today I’m finding it hard to believe they will win that division. It just highlights how much of a crapshoot the playoffs can be. Get hot and go for it.
I do agree that the more stress these teams face down the stretch helps the Twins but there is also the chance someone gets hot to get in and is the worst opponent. Hopefully the 6th seed ends up the least hot, most stressed.
