    I always get a chuckle when I see one of these pieces that presumes we know what the front office has planned. Overall, we should not be getting too attached to any players not under long term contract. This org is going to trade a lot more than the fan base is used to going forward, trade deadline notwithstanding. Someone said in the game thread the other day that they hadn't been following Akil Baddoo as much as they should have been as a former Twins prospect. That concept is foreign to me. I'd have a slightly larger list than just Jenkins as untouchables, Lee and Lewis are certainly on that list, but otherwise move and shake. Fingers crossed they pick the right guys to keep but right now Larnach has shown enough that I won't miss him if he blows up somewhere else.

    And into next year he would be behind Martin I would assume. Not having options (positional and minors) in that role is really tough.

    Left field is probably it, surprised they are waiting this long. Run to the fence, throw it to Correa. Go hit. In the general first base mix what does it say that in the recent promotion wave Sabato is still in Wichita? Even if a Chris Williams was in the mix Sabato would be the fill in. They could move him any time I guess but Wichita is a ghost town all of a sudden and he missed out.

    But that's a different discussion than exercising the option. The options are a large part of the value they bring for a trade.

    I think its pretty obvious they will pick up the option, its a procedural matter at this point. It's much less clear if he will remain with the team next year but that's a completely different question. There is almost no chance they let him walk for free at that number. Same post for Polanco, when that article comes out remember me fondly.

    To be fair I’m not sure if it would occur to the beat writers to ask. Gleeman took a two part question about it on the podcast a while back but ignored or forgot the specific question about a reporting structure. Most likely he forgot as he talked about the first part for 5 minutes but that also indicates that it wasn’t the important part to him. It’s a natural question for me but that’s also the world I live in. I would like some reporting about who does what and I haven’t seen any.

    This is where these conversations lose me. We don't even have an org chart to know who does what. Rocco the puppet! Doubt it. I still can't get an answer to my question of who the hitting coach reports too. My guess would be Rocco but it's only a guess. This is one of the safest front offices in the game. That doesn't mean there won't be changes but I'll bet we have this discussion about Falvey every year for at least the next 10.

    The three true outcome era of baseball will rank right up there with some of the darkest eras of the sport. Give it time. I think Gallo getting the deal is partially a favor to Boras. They are giving him all the runway they can as part of that. I can see why they took the chance as at least he could provide defensive flexibility and functionality, unlike a Sano. Being able to move him around the field has been very valuable even if the bat hasn't worked out. That runway is running out fast though, and they can certainly say they gave it every chance to work. With something like 7 guys all hopefully back soon and probably ahead on the depth chart its going to get dark early. There won't be room in September either, knock on wood. I'm not ready to call a last stand for his career though. I think he gets one more chance outside the Twins organization, probably a MILB deal. I would want to see what he can do in a place with a different hitting philosophy. Too many struggling hitters here and it pains me to say it but if I'm a MLB GM I'm scouting former Twins hitters hard for value.

    I'm not sure why that matters but I'll give it a shot. Most of the front office types, the entire coaching staff, certainly the on air broadcast staff, the top of the training staff, most of the scouting staff. I'm probably missing a few but that's off the top of my head. A better question is which of those operations survives without the other, longer.

    Well, yes, if they earn it. There are still a lot of good, solid corporations out there despite what the internets say. I chose to continue work for one of the biggest rather than retiring simply because of how they conduct themselves and treat employees. The thing is, its a two way street. Understanding that a corporation (the Twins) priority isn't earning Johnny fanboys trust is the starting point. Just as I chose to work for my current employer, I chose to follow the Twins and sometimes give them some money. Do I trust them? Who cares? I recognize that they can't be remotely transparent with me which means I can't make a real statement on trust. What I can do is deploy my BS detector and try to evaluate why they may do things. I see a lot of signs that they run a good organization and try to do the "right" thing by players. They probably did Jorge Lopez a solid getting him closer to his son, they are giving guys like Pagan, Kepler, Gallo, Miranda all the room in the world to get it together, they are most likely giving a hitting coach every chance to figure it out, they are not making public examples of firings or cuttings, the culture is universally praised and on and on. Watch what they do with Gordon and Mahle coming up. So many traits that make a successful "real" business are present here. Enjoy it while we can.

    I think you would make the qualifying offer first to keep the options open. Kenta has never gotten the free agent payday and isn't likely to be so team friendly again. 2/12 probably doesn't get it done. 3/18 on the open market seems possible and that's worth a comp A pick.

    I’ve loved baseball on the radio since sneaking Herb Carneal under the pillow after bedtime. Crazy what we thought we were getting away with as kids. I worked at the radio station in the evenings with John Gordon prior to streaming and grew up with 1.5 TV channels. I discovered XM streaming with a TV feed when TBS started doing postseason. Vin Scully radio while watching the TV feed is magical. Directv pause plus a 7.5 count was a perfect sync. Provus is very good, in the Carneal mold. I’m so glad the Twins have a good radio guy. I listened to the draft on radio while driving and they played radio calls for highlights. So many bad calls highlight how hard it is. Even several pro guys are just hard to listen to. The Yankees announcers are very good as well. It’s easy to gets a weird feel from the Sterling home run calls but they do a very good job if you listen to the broadcast instead of sound bites. When the Twins lit up Jhony Brito in April I was listening to them and watching on TV. It was very impressive how they were able to fill time because they had done their homework on the Twins. Talking to the wall is hard.

    I was good with moving on from him earlier in the year. Now I’m wondering if he is working back into qualifying offer territory? It may only end up being a B level but it might be worth a shot. A one year deal for next year would be an appropriate risk if he finishes strong.

    Nijght and day better than last year. Correa supposedly has PF is a vote for not against. Injury still happens. I'm not making some wierd case that all of a sudden no one gets hurt. The point is that when this front office addresses something we see results. What's the chances we were going to aquire something in a trade and the trainer nixed it? I haven't heard that and we wouldn't but it would have been nice last year.

    To be fair, I posted that before the Ryan news. That's a bit of a demerit, although it seems mostly on Ryan I want my trainer to sniff that stuff out. Days lost is pacing significantly down from last year. It's probably less of a noticeable issue because we haven't had to dip into the "who dat" level of depth to back fill. That depth is also a good mark for the front office. The training staff isn't perfect but from outside information it changed from a big issue to a normal or non issue. Don't forget the part where the former training staff presumably signed off on bringing in some broken arms too. I think that may be a larger part of their downfall than the normal injuries. My larger point is that the FO addressed it aggressively with a known quantity after trying their own way with a less proven talent. Not unlike what I expect with the hitting room this off season.

    He seemed to unlock it over the course of the year at Wichita. From my remembery I had thought he got off to a slow start for a couple months and came on lately. When I looked at the splits he was actually pretty good all year and turned it up a notch in July. It will be interesting to see him adjust in AAA. He seems to just keep turning it up with the competition.

    I would give them an overall vote of support along with a few very pointed demerits. My main concern is that they continue to get better and that they fix the things they choose to prioritize. Can’t build a rotation year after year, suddenly they adjusted strategy and here we are. Can’t sign premium free agents, did that. Training room was a liability last year, it’s a strength this year. Draft picks kinda iffy have been pretty good lately. They have invested a ton in analytics (maybe too much for my tastes) where the organization was barely on the board. The culture is universally reported as good. There are a lot of good things to look at. There are a few things that drive me nuts. I will be very disappointed if they aren’t a top 10 offense next year. I expect that to be a focus and have a good amount of confidence they can do it. The Kepler Gallo things have confused me but they were rightish on 2 of 3. I still think there is something else going on with the Gallo deal. I wish they would act more harshly sometimes but also being patient has paid off significantly. It’s all complicated but I have a hard time if someone is saying they aren’t a net positive and heading in the right direction.

    I had already considered all those facts. One guy having his best year ever is the outlier. If you give someone obsessed with data the wrong data it would also explain our situation. I’ve got an outlier too. I wonder how Gary Sanchez felt about the coaching last year? Sure was washed as a Twin, if I remember correctly.

    Don’t let your general disdain for coaching get in the way of the point I’m actually making. Things change year over year and I specifically mentioned coaches or. Can’t imagine the fun opposing pitching coaches are having with Popkins now that they know his playlist. My guess is he hasn’t been able to adjust and he’s putting his hitters behind the 8 ball to start the at bat.

    I don’t see the physical part but I certainly see information messing with with his mind. Thinking to much will make you late on a fastball too. Frankly, I’m pretty much done looking at individual hitters problems to diagnose. Far to many hitters with very similar issues points to a more systematic failure mode. Correa looks healthy, we haven’t heard squat about plantar fasciitis or anything else in weeks. Other than Buxton everyone else that is struggling in a similar manner is mainly healthy as well. I know I catch a ration every time I say coaching matters but I’m going to say it again. No, a great coach can’t make a superstar out of an ordinary player but a bad coach certainly can turn a superstar into a normie. Especially with something like hitting, where you can’t be thinking and processing in the millisecond you have to make a move. I’m firmly convinced that there is something in the hitting room, wether it’s Popkins, a scout/analyst or what that is a very large net negative. Not being in the room I can only hypothesize but it looks to me like the coaching staff doesn’t really have an individual that isn’t stuck in a spreadsheet. Old school scouting and adjustments still matter but they don’t come from computers. I am expecting an overhaul of the hitting room this offseason much like the training room last offseason. Now that I think about it, last years injury bug is this year’s hitting room.

    In the Ryan injury trivia game, groin would not have been high on my list of choices. Worth a shot at this point. They just can’t not have a reclamation project.

    Just like making a trade? Or actually make a trade. It won't matter if they don't hit but I've been screaming for Miranda and Julien at least to start shagging balls. Play by the wall and chuck it back in, go hit, repeat. Its probably Miranda's only chance to see big league time.
