  1. Yet the worst franchise in sports the Cubs are the rumored leader for Maddon.
  2. I don't think it's the job that would be keep Maddon from having interest. It's the ownership and front office placing a self induced salary cap on the team.
  3. If it walks like a duck.... Couldn't the high increase in home runs one season and decline the next be a sign the season was on the up and up? Kind of like Wade Boggs in 1987 or Joe Mauer in 2009.
  4. One thing I'm wondering is whether Terry Ryan honestly went into the search willing and prepared to hire an outsider or his he kind of caught off guard that maybe the best candidate may not coach in the Twins organization?
  5. Farrell, Bochy, Giradi, LaRussa, Manuel, Francona, Torre, McKeon, Leyland and Cox all have won a world championship since 1995 and all had managed other teams previously. John Russell was interviewed but I don't believe any other candidates have had major league managerial experience.
  6. Tim Brewster didn't know what to do because he never had any coaching responsibilities before getting the Gophers job. Luvollo is highly regarded managerial candidate. He's up on all the new stats and unlike football it's much more difficult to hide an incompetent coach in baseball.
  7. Henry Blanco is another possible name for the coaching staff. He's managing a Venezuelan winter league team and Gene Glynn is one of his coaches. There's also the 'necessary' Twins ties.
  8. The p.c. is strong in this thread and not surprising so is being judgmental.
  9. Excellent post, Mike. You better explained a true value of Buxton than the 'traditional' avg/ ob/slugg does. The stat that seemed lower than I would have thought is on-base. I figured he'd be at a .360-.370 clip.
  10. You mean Tom Kelly and Ron Gardenhire?
  11. Gardy could compromise and have Anderson be his bullpen coach at his next job.
  12. If 290/.355/.470 is the upside for Buxton than that's not living up the hype.
  13. Out of curiosity who are these most scouts the Meyer write-up references in saying he'll become an elite closer?
  14. This was only speculation on his part but Reusse didn't think Molitor had anything more than a 30% chance of being hired and the team is going to seriously look outside the organization.
  15. Can we go back and look at where Gordon and Stewart ranked in their respective classes initially?
  16. He's going the be the next target for ownership if he hires the wrong manager. I don't see it ever reaching that point though. I
  17. He gave him two years so he wouldn't have to deal with the 'lame duck' questions during the season.
  18. Disappointed in Kerr taking the managerial apologist route.
  19. One big reason the organization was so out of touch was the former manager being out of touch.
  20. Gardy goes and Andy is named new manager.
  21. David Ortiz is the longest with one team in the AL but he was first with Minnesota. With Jeter retiring. Joe Mauer is now first among American League players in single-team career longevity. Justin Verlander is second in the AL followed by Dustin McGowan of Toronto and Felix Hernandez of Seattle. Overall top five 1. Rollins 2. Utley 3 Mauer 4. Molina 5. Wright
  22. I'd like to believe this is the first of major changes from Minneapolis to Ft Myers rookie ball but I sincerely doubt it.
  23. I think by now there would be rumblings of a change if it was going to happen.
  24. First time I can remember seeing an actual defense on the field for the Gophers. Granted Michigan is horrible but the Gophers have a secondary, and linebackers who can tackle and a front four with talent and depth.
