  1. I would not call a 1.500 WHIP performance "solid" by any means. I would call it below average. The fact that this performance was Diamond's best of the season does not make it "solid"...
  2. Can you elaborate on why it is so, especially if you look at his production compared to that of the sorry Twins' outfielders since he was gone?
  3. The fact that the Gardy and "the Twins" defended the perpetrator instead of defending their own player and not turning belly up to the Yankee jersey like they did, does not mean that the slide was clean, it means that Gardy and "the Twins" lack fortitude. And you can see the result in the standings and the scoreboard when they play the Yankees.
  4. Nope. He does have an option left, so they could have DFA'd someone like Fryer or Raley and simply optioned him if they wanted.
  5. Looks like the Bartlett retirement is not official and the Twins DFA Mastroianni to make room for Fuld
  6. Sounds like watching Kubel and Colabello trying to play the OF yesterday was what made the Twins' pull the trigger. Allegedly, Nunez is coming up to the Twins as well, so I expect Mastroianni and a pitcher to ho to AAA. Things will get interesting when Arcia and Willingham return.
  7. Yeah but there are rules and there are rules. Case in point: Someone takes . What do you do if that happens to your teammate? I don't know about you, but I would bean that guy every time I saw him, and hard so he (at least) spends a few months in the DL himself, since baseball does not do anything for dirty play and dirty players like that. I agree: Throw the whole thing out and play to win every minute of the game. And pay them with their own medicine. That's the other part of the unwritten rules...
  8. Hate to say this, but other than the sample size difference, spray charts look pretty close to me... He is having better plate appearances, walks more and is more selective at the plate for sure...
  9. Bartlett and his family live permanently at Fort Myers, so a ST/EST/GCL/instructional league opportunity will be tailor made for him.
  10. Trying to make some sense of it all, but I can see that it makes no sense at all
  11. As Halsey Hall indicated, Rosario has been on camp since last week and playing in EST games. Based on what LEN3 wrote today, he will report in New Britain around 5/25 and play 2B and OF. That about closes the loop.
  12. He is not on the 40 man roster (I know that it can be remedied because there is Bartlett's opening and people like Fryer and Raley that can get off it any time). I suspect that he will not get to the majors, unless there is an injury or someone (Correia) gets traded. To note: He will probably be limited in total innings this season, so (even if added to the 40-man) will likely not be a September call up. As I noted in the writeup, he takes extra care of the shoulder before the game...
  13. Polanco should play at SS until he develops enough to prove he cannot play it in the majors (see: Cuddyer, Plouffe & Dozier,) because he will make the majors with his bat. And if anyone should be promoted because of his bat, it should be Polanco (.340/.444/.453) and not Michael (.327/.351/.404; both slash lines this season.) You just do not move a top prospect (who is on the 40 man roster) from a position of need because there are fielding issues in high A ball. That's what the minors are for, to learn a position and make errors. Last season he played about half of his games in SS. Give him 2 full seasons at SS and then we can talk. He is 20 years old, btw. Plenty of time to improve...
  14. Nunez is not on the 25-man. He was the 26th man for the second game of the double header. Back with Rochester.
  15. .146/.163/.293 Alex Presley's slash line in 11 games with Houston so far. Not sure whether there is anything decent about that.
  16. I guess bacon is really big for some reason and they are making a killing selling hats...
  17. Mike Berardino tweeted a few minutes ago. Great decision
  18. I saw Pino pitch at Spring Training and was not impressed at all. I watched Pino pitched at the doubleheader last Saturday and was very impressed, especially with his ability to change speeds and locations with his FB and his slider and change were as good as usual. He was really fooling batters who did not know what was coming. The interesting thing is that while with the Twins, Pinto's FB was at high 80s. Saturday it was sitting between 89-91 and once he reached back and got a 94. I think that he can contribute to the Twins' pen right now...
  19. Favorite Twins' player: Kirby Favorite pizza: Clams and chopped garlic with white sauce
  20. Unfortunately that did not happen. He was Designated For Assignment, pasted through waivers and then accepted that assignment. At all points he was under contract with the Minnesota Twins and he did not have to sign another contract. When you release a player (e.g. Guerrier this Spring) and then you re-sign him, he gets a new contracts. I hope that the Twins cut the cord because at his point he might be a negative presence in the Rochester clubhouse. Let a kid with some future pitch.
  21. Indeed. And add Fien and Thielbar to that equation. The Twins never sell high. They wait for players to bomb and then they release them...
  22. Did you watch that single inning when Gardy played Brian Bu(t)cher at second in 2008
  23. Barely. Nishioka's line with the Twins: .215/.267/.236 Florimon's: .212/.273/.314 He is fast approaching the Nishioka level...
  24. That's not true. As a starter last season Deduno's K% was 14.5% Here are career K% averages for Twins' starters (with 2013 K% in parenthesis) : Nolasco: 19.2 % (19.8%) Hughes: 19.8 % (18.9%) Pelfrey: 13.2 % (14.9 %) Correia: 15.0 % (12.8%) Gibson: SSS 12.2% MLB, 21.1% AAA The fact is that Deduno might miss more bats on the walk way, but is pretty much on the bottom of the list compared to the other Twins' starters as far as strikeouts go as a starter. I just don't get the Deduno love... he is a AAAA pitcher like Diamond.
