  1. I think that the Pelfrey story in the same piece (about to be lost for the season) is the bigger story there... Sad news if he needs elbow surgery again, but it looks like it is the case, no matter how much they are downplaying it.
  2. Bourjos and Jay do not belong in the same sentence. Bourjos is a 27 y.o RHB who is hitting .204/.274/.310 this season with a career .247/.303/.389 line and 2 arb seasons to come. Candidate to not be offered arbitration after this season. Thanks, I'd pass. Hicks is better. Jay is a 29 year old LHB who is hitting .293/.346/.397 this season (almost identical to his .293/.355/.400 - OPS+ 108 career numbers) Also 2 years of arbitration to go. He can also steal a base. For comparison's reference, when traded, then 28 year old Denard Span's career numbers with the Twins were .284/.357/.389 (104 OPS+) Very similar players, but Span's contract situation was better and he was a year older. It took Meyer two seasons ago to get Span. Something comparable as far as prospects go, would be Berrios now. Pretty sure that Walker or Fien will not make it happen. There is no way that Burton or Florimon make it happen, but May may. I'd trade Berrios before May, but I'd rather see what Hicks can do for the rest of the season as a RHB.
  3. It's your deal. You cannot crowd-source answers regarding how you personally feel about something you did...
  4. This is fantastic. I bet that will help the EST, Rookie and Instruct kids a big time.
  5. If this is correct, this is another reason that this organization needs wholesale changes... As an outfielder his value is cut in half. Not like the Twins do not have the CF of the future in the organization. I would not mind if here were playing CF for the Twins instead of Santana for the Twins, but they are cutting their nose to spite their face at this point... Unexplainable. As a second baseman, they can trade him for a Centerfielder much better than him as a CF, if they want another CF that badly...
  6. I'd take MacPhail over Antony in a heartbeat. I guess they need an interim and then a full search. Not sure that MacPhail might be interested and if he were the Twins should offer him St Peter's position and let him run the whole thing. I don't care a bit aboutAntony other than he is available for an interim position and his name is not Ryan.
  7. In other words, if you do not like the way your governor is running your state, you should move to Wisconsin? Nothing respectful about that What is the lynx?
  8. Agree with the first sentence, but the changes you are proposing (albeit totally valid) are not serious enough. Want serious changes after this mess of the last 3.25 seasons? Here: Fire Anderson - Get Cuellar as the interim pitching coach Fire Gardenhire - Get Doug Mientkiewicz as the interim manager Fire Ulger - Move Molitor to the first base coach Fire Vavra - Get Jake Mauer as the third base coach Announce Terry Ryan's retirement for health reasons, appoint Antony as the interim GM and have a full blown front office and manager search this offseason. Serious. Not bandaids. Smack the root cause of the issue.
  9. If you cannot change your approach and adjust when you are 30 years old, you are not Joe Mauer, you are Chris Colabello. Hitters of Mauer's caliber (and paycheck size) must adjust.
  10. If someone can convince me that acting like that would not make the others around him pick it up a notch, I'd be good with it. It's not about him. Someone in this team has to show to the rest that losing is unacceptable. Usually that someone is the one with the largest paycheck, thus this being brought up often and early, esp. the last 4 seasons. I would care less if that some were Mauer or not (and have no problem with Mauer being Mauer,) but someone has to do it...
  11. I liked last week's mock much better Jackson is the gem of this draft...
  12. I am not sure about the last sentence, but I think the answer to your question is Polanco, Vielma or Escobar in decreasing probability order. Gordon has Levi Michael written all over him for some reason.
  13. Simpler than that: Suzuki has been hitting .189/.250/.324 the past 2 weeks (he is regressing to his norm). Have Pinto start at Catcher 4-5 days a week and DH 1-2 with Suzuki starting when Pinto is DHing. I have seen enough bad throws towards second base / center field from Suzuki recently, which makes me think that Pinto might actually be better back there. I have no problem if the Twins replace Kubel (who has been not good) with Herrmann. I would have a problem if they replaced Nunez. Santana will play every day in Rochester when Fuld is back. I am one of the people who have thought for a while that Santana's ceiling is utility and have zero problem seeing him play CF. If there is a "Twins' SS of the future" in the organization right now, this is probably Polanco or Vielma. Heck, Escobar looks more like the SS of now and the immediate future (until on of the 2 aforementioned are ready maybe) than Santana.
  14. Did you see who the Right Fielder was? He almost had that Longest stretch without a HR since 1977... Nice
  15. If Barry Bonds, Jeff Bagwell and (to a lesser degree) Mike Piazza are not Hall of Famers, so is not Beltre. Never know how the writers going to vote. For me he is borderline (like Scott Rolen.)
  16. FWIW, they got those 3 Max Kepler has been exclusively playing Centerfield the last couple weeks in Florida
  17. On the other hand, there is a small minority of us who thinks that he is fine with the glove at CF and his biggest issue has been hitting as a LHB, and now that he gave it up, he really has not much to work on other than get PAs and experience. Time will show, but the most important adjustment a RHB has to do while facing a RHP is to stay away from the sweeping slider. He did not in his first PA (and K'd swinging,) but he adjusted the rest of the game. Very encouraging...
  18. Yeah. That happened when Burton entered the game.
  19. Last time I checked, before the Giants' series this team was half a game away from the second AL Wild Card spot. They have to play to win this season and this does not mean not developing people. Santana is a prospect, too, no? He should be playing SS instead of CF (in AAA.)
  20. Since you asked: I cannot see into the future, but Gardenhire has had multiple opportunities to win and has not. And these "changes that have been evident" have just resulted to mediocrity (2 games under .500) over awfulness. It in not like the Twins are 10 games ahead in the division or something... Let's not misinterpret what flirting with .500 is. It is mediocrity. Better than awfulness, but still.... Gardenhire and his pals needed to go a long time ago.
  21. That was a balk. Have you seen how Kubel has been playing recently? How about Willingham's/Nunez'/Santana's defensive ability at OF the last 2 games? How about Mauer at the plate the last week or so? Hicks being picked off on a clear uncalled balk is not the problem with this team...
  22. And the Twins' centerfielder would be?
  23. Not a fine line at all. Before the SF series the Twins were half a game away from the second wild card spot. You got to play to win. Not that playing for the future and winning are incompatible, mind you. Get May (or Meyer) for Correia, Pino for Burton, Kris Johnson for Thielbar and get rid of Kubel (and not Santana) when Fuld is ready, and bench Kubel for Pinto meanwhile, for starters. Maybe even Vargas for Willingham at some point might not be a bad choice as well...
