  1. Don't. Please. The helium will blow out and he will deflate...
  2. I would not put Hu in that company, he is in the Tyler Duffey prospect category...
  3. Rey Ordonez and Luis Rodriguez (unless Vielma figures out hitting...)
  4. Good to see Polanco and Gordon in their proper order, finally I don't think that the Twins need any more middle infielders in the early rounds... They better get some LHSPs, they really lacking
  5. For some reason, Milone reminds me of a certain Mr Hendriks who lit up AAA but when at the bigs he was less than mediocre. Milone lead (and still does) the Twins' starters with 6.32 FIP this season. He is fine where he is and if anyone is willing to take him for a borderline prospect, more power to the Twins. May has a 3.39 FIP in the bigs and nothing to prove in AAA, and is more of part of the future than Milone, and unlike Milone, none of the other starters did anything to lose their job...
  6. The rats and clogged toilets are real too. Part of the shrine experience.
  7. Regardless Vargas' performance, Pinto should be the Twins' starting Catcher at this point. Suzuki's .235/.310/.333 does not cut it.
  8. I can see that for the Northern League, because there really is not much competition. In the Northeast, International League (AAA) teams draw 3-4x as much as Atlantic & CanAm (Ind) League teams, mainly because of their density, positioning in bigger cities, and, generally, close to the motherships. Here are the 2014 averages for IL. For comparison's purposes, the Newark Bears used to average less than 2000 a season (CanAm) before they folded...
  9. Jet Blue is an exclusive ST ballpark. The Red Sox do not have a team in the FSL. Their High A team (Salem Red Sox) is in the Carolina league. The Red Sox own the Salem team, so it is unlikely that they will have a team play regular season games at Jet Blue
  10. Got to love it that Souhan brought Twins' mouthpiece in the story to give a view on the topic as well. Gee. and another gem: UZR/150 2012:-14.9, 2013: -8.6, 2014: 7.7, 2015: 6.9 RZR: 2012:.691, 2013: .727, 2014: .736, 2015: .797 even good old range factor: RF/G: 2012:2.73, 2013: 2.38, 2014: 2.64, 2015: 3.07
  11. Glad to see that the Twins decided to go with Doug Bernier over Vargas
  12. Indeed. That's why it does not make sense to field a team full of Miquel Cabreras, Begs for a 9-8 games and at best you hope that you are on the right side of those games. re: Wil Myers. Little known fact but he was drafted as a catcher and still learning the OF. He played all of 150 total games at CF, so the Padres might think that there is upside with the glove, since he is Arcia's age. And they'd rather have him there than Upton (who is having a better season than Myers, btw) or Kemp, and for a good reason. Also, if you look at Myers' UZR components (arm, range, errors,) he gets major demerits from the first 2, but is ok with the errors part. Learning the position and tracking better will improve his range and his accuracy (because his arm is strong enough.) Add to that the fact that the Padres have Will Venable on their bench who is a good centerfielder and has played about a third as much as Myers out there and, yes, based on what they have, it makes sense. I suspect that in interleague AL games, Kemp will dh, Upton and Myers will be at the corners and Venable at CF.
  13. Thanks for this Matt! Was very interesting. Good luck this season and keep up the good work!
  14. Vargas is the every day DH. Mauer has not DH'd enough. Today Santana was a DH. Suzuki, who is worse than Mauer, is blocking Pinto. Not Mauer. Arcia is a RF who switched positions because of Hunter. Hunter is blocking him, if you can call it that. He will be the Twins' every day LFer once he comes back from the DL, with Schafer going away, Rosario down and Robinson on the bench. Nobody is blocking Vargas and Arcia, Suzuki is blocking Pinto.
  15. Such as? Brock Peterson? Reynaldo Rodriguez? DJ Hicks? Michael Gonzales? (those are the Twins AAA and AA 1B/DH players)
  16. JJ Hardy just came back from a long injury. Collabelo and Valencia are bench players. Never understood why the Twins let Solarte go for nothing after a .329/.367/.466 season in AA as a 23 year old. At least he could had performed the Nunez role with a better bat an better glove (unlike Nunez who can play a below average SS, Solarte is an emergency SS, but the Twins have Escobar and Santana already.)
  17. Jackie Bradley Jr is the Rex Sox' Jordan Schafer. The Twins already have one of those players... However if they'd take Stauffer for him, I'd take him off the Red Sox' hands in a heartbeat
  18. Ryan Wheeler is a 26 year old journeyman with 250+ MLB PAs with a .233/.280/.335 slash line and a -28.9 UZR/150 at 3B. His glove plays like Vargas' in any position. All in all, better than Nate Hanson, Brock Peterson and Jose Martinez (likely will replace one of them) but nothing to write home about. And definitely not a prospect.
  19. Hammond Stadium That said most of the Eastern League AA stadiums are real pits with the Reading and New Britain being two of the worst offenders. Every single FSL stadium that hosts Spring Training is better than them (with Hammond Stadium being the best, of-course.) The experience in a Miracle game is different than that in a Twins' ST, however (and much cheaper.) I have been to a couple of PCL ballparks (I-Cubs and SLC Bees) and they are aging; I still prefer Hammond over them. The Rochester ballpark is not that great. My hometown park (Coca Cola Park) is my favorite IL ballpark (and the gem of the league; and I am not a homer), but I have not been to the Scranton-Wilkes Barre new ball park yet. Now with the Hammond Stadium renovation, it has a wrap-around outfield area and bars in the OF like the Coca Cola Park, but misses the upper deck and the suites that CCP has. Still, Hammond is my favorite. Got to try some Southern League parks now, but still, usually AA parks cannot beat FSL Spring Training Parks.
  20. Gleeman's stats compare Mauer's and Hunter's production, since Hunter left the Twins (2008) which is exactly the time frame of Souhan's argument...
  21. One more Fact: This. This makes Souhan's story totally garbage, and makes the STrib editor who decided to print it look pretty bad...
  22. That's another (2 I Torii-serving) fairytale If that were his motivation, a 3-year would had been enough: 2008, 2009, 2010. He would had played at Target Field the last year of his 3-year contract. His motivation was $. Wonder what excuse Hunter (and his defenders) have for him returning to the AL Central and playing for the strongest team in the Twins' division, other than $?
  23. As usually, Souhan conveniently forgets some things: Fact: The Twins did make him an offer, that was close in annual value to the Angels' but less in years. Hunter had the choice to stay with the Twins for fair money, but he chose to get more money from another team. No he would have not signed with the Twins for less, because he did not, while had the opportunity and the offer on the table. Anything else is Souhan's wishful thinking/dreaming/fantasy. Why doesn't he write that Worley was a better value than Pelfrey and Liriano a better value than Nolasco, at least Ryan had a chance to keep those... Edit: Souhan should had read this and this before he wrote that.
  24. .435 BABIP before today. It will pass.
