  1. I think that Haley has higher ceiling than that. Really. His floor is a mop up guy, which might be higher than Hector Santiago's or Phil Hughes's this season. Both of these guys have problems so far and I would not write their names in stone for the rotation. Hughes admitted that he has not been throwing at 100% (and will not for another 2 starts) and his FB is sitting at 87-88 now. Will figure out more about Hughes in a couple weeks. Saturday is really big for Santiago, if he repeats his first start debacle before he leaves the team for 3 weeks, he is the one who at best will be the mop up guy (his contract is not guaranteed, thus the "at best", the Twins have other options with him.)
  2. Other than Santiago maybe, I just cannot see the others not being on the roster by opening day, trades aside. Here is the thing with Adrianza: he has been pretty horrible with the stick and late in the games against AA and AAA pitching. At this point he bring the same skillset as Vielma does. Escobar's clubhouse presence is also something that is positive for him.
  3. My contention is that SS = 1 is not enough to draw any conclusions in any scientific study. Nothing more, nothing less.
  4. I'd take Vogelsong over Santiago who I don't think is a lock for the rotation. Only the last 2 season he has been a full time starter. As far as OF goes, I think that the only lock is Buxton and maybe Kepler, so Grossman, Santana, Rosario, Stubbs, Shuck, & Palka are competing for 2-3 spots. Not sure that Rosario has earned an MLB job yet, and has an option left. Grossman and Santana are out of options.
  5. Sample size for non-pitchers returning to play who were not treated with the operation: 1. Might be conclusive enough for pitchers (SS = 29) but just one position player... Also what they do not study is the relapse % of players who were operated upon vs not.
  6. Rhett Bollinger wrote that he had a platelet injection before the R&R. It makes more sense then. Still practically unheard of injury for High School OFs...
  7. This is on the Twins' medical stuff. He injured it on 8/28. Had he had the procedure on 9/8 instead of 3/8, he should have been ready by now. Somebody needs to tell them that rest and rehab does not work. Rare injury for HS OFs btw; If I were the Twins, I'd have a look at his dad's training methods
  8. You mean like a total system something or another?
  9. Good riddance. I want to see what Patterson can do as a RB next season, and have them invest in a strong O-line
  10. A fan they asked to come down and play SS because they ran out of players
  11. Not what I would do really, but it seems the most likely scenario: Gimenez. Both Farvey and Lavine have spoken positively of him in his ability to help young pitchers and "leadership".He was the personal catcher of Cleveland's Trevor Bauer, and Bauer spoke very highly of himHe his right handed and hits lefties well (like both Murphy and Garver)He can play first base ok, as wellI think that for this FO 2017 is an evaluation and not a rebuild year, from the Front Office to the minor leagues to the players. They placed an emphasis in pitching (and defense) and want to evaluate pitchers under the best possible circumstances. Again, not what I would do, but it looks like it is Gimenez's job to lose.
  12. There are a few encouraging signs, for example: His biggest issue last season was allegedly catching up to MLB fastballs. His HR today was off a 96 mph fastball. That said: Vargas, Park, Grossman. Pick 2. That's pretty much the equation and it is too early to solve. Broken record, but Vargas leaving for 2+ weeks to play for Puerto Rico is not doing himself a favor.
  13. This is part of the reason that in my lists I exclude players who played in the bigs. Chargois's ATA (*) was 2016 and he contributed last season. The fact that he still qualifies as a rookie, which is the cut-off of most prospect lists, still cannot change his Time of Arrival (and you don't have to Estimate it, it is actual) to 2017. He arrived in 2016. Fact (*) A for actual
  14. Too early to figure out who the Twins should pick. However. The last prep pitcher who was drafted 1-1 and signed, was a "cannot miss prospect" like Hunter Greene is. The immortal Brien Taylor, lefty mind you. (Great retrospective on that signing here. A must for any Greene fans.) The competition that high schoolers are facing is about 5-10% (at best) of what College pitchers are facing (and this assumes that 1 of their opponents will make it as a starter in a College squad, which is not really true.) And if one has a 98 mph fastball as their only good pitch, he can fool a lot of high school kids....
  15. Darn. Hope all are well. Looks like the Twins players had the least of it and were helping the others including Quade. Enough with car accidents already!
  16. That is the other Santana, not Danny. Funny, but I am not sure whether that is a slip by ESPN or not. Maybe someone wanted to put Ehire Adrianza and they put Ervin Santana instead...
  17. Last Twins' prospect to come close to fitting that description is Tyler Robertson. 6'6" or so and a muscular 270 or so and all he could get was 85-88 mph out of his fastball.
  18. In the two weeks I will spend in Fort Myers the coming month, I will be focus on watching players who were drafted by the Twins last season, as well as the ones who are playing stateside for their first season, and have not watched play live. Other than that I will be looking at the following because this is kind of a make or break season for them: - Amaurys Minier - Trevor Harrison (was told that gained about 15 lbs of muscle, interesting to see) - Michael Cederoth - Luke Bard (remember those 2?) - Lewis Thorpe.
  19. Interesting. At least they are not playing and destroying Target Field...
  20. That's a quick fix. The reason for it is that someone taught him to punch his glove with his free fist right before he catches the ball. Eliminate the punch and the extra steps/hop is gone. Check it out to see what I mean. Was better when he barehanded the ball.
  21. Other than what I indicated in the above link, Ben Badler wrote that he has a very good glove.
  22. That is a bit off the mark. Really there is not a short-stop battle and Santana is not a short stop. There is a battle for a couple bench spaces maybe and that includes IFs and OFs. eg. Drew Stubbs, who is not mentioned for some reason, is battling not only Santana, but Adrianza for a position. Plus in indicates that there might be a chance that Perkins is ready for the season. Right... Waste of time really
  23. Today it was announced that Wayne Krivsky, 63 years old, former Reds' GM was demoted from "Special Assistant to the GM" to "Scout." I expect a resignation soon.
  24. a. I'd take Sano over their third baseman on the field b. Gladden called Mitch Garver "that Garvey guy". I'd take Garvey's (Mr Clean) production from Garver too
