  1. Exactly. Agreed. But he should be the top decision maker like LaRussa in AZ is and Ryan was in TX. Thus has to be St Peter's boss.
  2. The Twins should open a new position for him and make him St. Peter's boss. Then let him decide on GM, manager etc. He will not come to MN to be a manager....
  3. McGuire, Canseco, Giambi, & company. And Tony LaRussa the architect. enough said.
  4. Do any of these guys belong on the bench of a World Series contender? That should be the Litmus test. Next...
  5. I wish we were having that conversation before the 2014 season I see Rosario as a centerfielder in 2015. The Twins OF defense war horrible in 2014 in all spots. I kinda looked at that here, using, in addition to defensive metrics, batted ball data that are really revealing. Hopefully the new manager will not play DHs or infielders in corner OF positions (Willingham, Colabello, Parmelee, Herrmann any more) On the other hand, based on what Ryan said about Sano, I am not holding my breath... There is still hope for Arcia (and Hicks) They are young. If Koskie became an above average fielder, lots of things can happen, but it takes work. And they three remaining aforementioned should go. This team has enough DHs
  6. Donuts to dollars, if Nolasco is still with the Twins by opening day 2015 and he is healthy, he will be the opening day starter. Hughes' 2014 performance was pretty close to his 2013, if you don't count ERA and W-L stuff. He did decrease his walk rate a lot. That was the only difference
  7. Indeed. I thought that he was going to be the next Yankees manager or something. Hard to let the manager of the millennium go. Hate to say that, but I think that this was a token interview.
  8. Hate to say this, but other than the 2 who are playing in the AFL right now (Buxton & Rosario,) the other high ranked Twins OF prospects (Harrison, Kepler, Walker) run about as well as Delmon Young.
  9. A couple of things on that: You can play the optimist, but you got to do something pretty drastic to transform a horrible team. Have a plan while you are doing it. Be transparent. Hold people accountable. Walk the talk. When Ryan was optimistic, he did not do the other things. I think that any leader who goes out and gives the message "we will not be competitive, we know it and we will not do anything to be about it but wait for Sano, Buxton and Godot to make us competitive", should have given his last message as a leader. I'd love to see someone of the Twins' Front Office and ownership say: 1. We really sucked the last 4 years and maybe more, because we haven't won a World Series since 1991. 2. You fans who supported us on building one of the best ballparks in the majors should be mad about it and we are mad about it as well 3. Our goal is not only to be competitive but to win the World Series every year. Losing is unacceptable 4 We are working on it: We decided that the teams' field management was not optimal and we made a change. 5., 6. (Describe other weaknesses and ways to address them.) 7. Act on them Not sure about optimistic or pessimistic. How about realistic. And setting goals. And being transparent and communicative.
  10. There are analytics, and there are analytics. Here is an example: Last season Pelfrey had a 2 mph velocity drop in his pitches vs 2013 and his release point was all over the place. That spells trouble and trouble happened. Either the Twins do not get into this type of stuff or instead of shorting RBI or ERA columns, they look into "matchup" and situational analytics, which are based on non-significant sample sizes. Or something. Pretty sure that Andy was more interested in his clicker than at this pitchers release points, velocities and mechanics. Ask the Vanimal. Hope the next Twins' manager and coaches are aware of those data points and seek them.
  11. Beg to differ. Sano will probably put up numbers similar to Vargas this year, with an increase in the power and contact parts (BA & SLG)
  12. Is Vargas a better player than Plouffe? Yes. Sano is a better player than Vargas and more MLB-ready. Thus, Sano is better than Plouffe. Logic.
  13. 3.5 fWAR not 4. The point is that Sano is better than Plouffe. You cannot not play the better guy, Sano makes the Twins more likely to win than Plouffe. If Plouffe is so great, the Twins should get a couple of good prospects for him, or at least a Centerfielder, no? Trade him. But you got to start the better player who is not always the "proven veteran".
  14. A Randy Bush/Gene Larkin type or role, for which he is better suited. Plouffe is not a starting third baseman in a world series team. .750 OPS just does not cut it. He would be a great role player in a good team. The Twins need those instead of the marginal bench bats and gloves
  15. I would not put Buxton and Sano in the same sentence as far as MLB-readiness goes. Sano is ready. He should be the Twins' starting third baseman in 2015. Buxton is a question mark. If he dominates the AFL (and I mean dominates) and has a good spring training, then he should go north. If his OPS is sitting around .700-.750, he needs more time.
  16. about this "wrong and right thing": I shall refer to Mr William Martin Joel. Not sure that Ryan's mind is open enough to pick the best manager out there. And this sucks.
  17. There is absolutely no excuse for Ryan to be there. The other thing you have to consider is that Ryan is not the only one responsible for this list. Gardenhire and Anderson pulled for a lot of those players to start, plus are responsible for some of them performing as they did. Sam Deduno is a great example of the former while Vance Worley is a great example of the latter.
  18. I am a bit higher on Minier. I think that he is a top 10 if not a top 5 guy in this team (with May, Vargas, Santana, & Co all graduating from these lists...)
  19. Another name to throw in the mix: Ray Searage currently the Pirates' pitching coach. For obvious reasons...
  20. Darn. We actually somewhat agree on something If they hire internally, I'd rather see them hire Mientkiewitz as the manager and have Mauer as the third base coach. Molitor will be fine as a bench coach/guru type of a guy. (plus he is not Ryan's guy.) But, I'd rather see them go outside the organization and Dave Martinez is as good as the get. Pitching is an issue and I don't think that there are any pitching solutions within the organization. This would be a problem if they hire internally. I have the most respect for Bobby Cuellar and he could do it, but not sure that he has the stamina to do it. He would make an excellent adviser. I don't really care about Steinbach, even if he were not associated with the steroid using As who stole AL West championships from the Twins. He, like Anderson, had a mission last season: To work with Josmil Pinto and make him a better catcher. Did not happen. If he cannot do that...
  21. About Gilmartin and the 40-man: Who would you rather have? Darnell or Gilmartin (because with Sano & co who really have to be added to the roster) not both of them fit, plus they are the same guy as Milone (who is arbitration eligible.) Goodrum started the season well and it was hopeful, but ended up another disappointment. Matter of fact, he had his worst full pro season with a .672 OPS. He is a year younger than Levi Micheal and Michael had a .776 OPS in the same and higher level as a second baseman vs as a third baseman. They should be flipped at least. When Goodrum was a light hitting shortstop it was ok, but his performance as a third baseman makes him expandable IMHO. Too bad, but...
  22. Yeah. But his boss was Bell who was also Ryan's boss.
  23. I think that all 3 of the people pictured should go. Unless Pohlad cares, he should sell to someone who cares, and if he cares he should fire his president and start over with a baseball person who can build a winning culture. Jerry Bell (who was hired before the '87 season, btw) retired before the 2011 season and St. Peter took over. I think that this and the Twins' record afterwards are not coincidental but consequential. The Strib writers can really go for the low hanging fruit, otherwise they will lose "privileges" with the club.
