  1. The results were known regarding Berrios (and Vargas, wait for the announcement) from the point they made the choice to be in the WBC and mostly sit, instead of staying back and fight for a position. The jury on whether Santiago is stretched enough to star, after being a reliever with PR in the WBC, is still out. Tonight's game against Baltimore will be telling. if he cannot go 6 innings, I would not be surprised if he starts the season in the pen, with both Duffey and Mejia making the rotation, and then switching with Duffey, when Falvine discover that he is not a starter and would better help the team as a reliever.
  2. I'd wait another season for both Buxton and Sano and then extend them for 5 seasons each, if they perform, so they are locked until their late 20s. I would not extend any of the pitchers they have...
  3. a. Duffey is 26+ years old. b. Duffey's career xFIP is 3.82 c. Duffey's xFIP is Identical to Nolasco's career xFIP (I have not seen many tears about letting Nolasco go last season) d. At least the following pitchers Duffey's age and younger have lower xFIP: Thor, Nola, Stroman, McCullers, Cole, Matz, Wood, Martinez, Jon Gray, Wheeler, Joe Ross, Erlin, Ray, Gausman, Velasquez
  4. Pressly made zero starts with the Twins organization in any level. Was turned into a reliever by Boston half way into 2012.
  5. It was an answer to "As Americans we are culturally different than other parts of the world." The points are that a. there is no singular "American Culture", b. there are a parts of the US that have cultures more similar to other parts of the world than other parts of the US, and c. This is a multi-cultural land made by the amalgamation of different people with different cultures.
  6. Maybe. But the difference of the US from (most of) the other parts of the world is that it is a country that has been built and continue to being built by the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free of the other parts of the world. The US is a multi-cultural country. Eg. there are parts of Hartford, CT that are more similar to San Juan, PR, parts of Queens, NY that are more similar to Sao Paulo, BR, and parts of Philadelphia that are more similar to Hong Kong, than (let's say) Hayfield, MN or Newton, IA or Bird in Hand, PA. And the last 3 towns are not even culturally similar, albeit all settled by white protestants... We Americas are culturally different and our collective cultures are comprised by the cultures of the World...
  7. I don't know but: From the point one is talking about "we" vs. "them", one is pointing a differenceIf one does not celebrate those differences (which I think it is partially the point of WBC) but is criticizing different behavior, he/she is divisiveRe: the title up there: Racism is cultural clash, but one side claiming that they are better. Not sure that this is not what Kintzler did here... Is he a racist? I don't know. Is that a racist/culturally insensitive statement? Of course it is, as it is naive for him to believe that all Americans play baseball like him (cause there are a whole bunch of Latinos in 'merica, for one.)
  8. I agree with part A. Kintzler, Belisle, Pressly, Rogers, Breslow in That leaves 2 spots. Chargois sucked pretty badly his last 3 outings, and he knows it. He is out. I think that Tonkin and Haley will fight for one spot. I'd take the devil I do not know over the guy I know sucks, and I suspect the Twins will do. Bye bye Tonkin. Last spot: flip a coin or make a decision: Santiago is not stretched enough to start. So he gets that spot and Duffey gets his rotation spot until they rotate in few weeks.
  9. If Joe Torre (as a C) and Jorge Posada are not in the Hall of Fame, Molina does not belong there. Period.
  10. The Twins have a full 40-man roster. Looks like there will be no spots needed for SPs Looks like the May to 60 day deal took care of Breslow and no more spots will be needed for the bullpen. Spots will be needed for: Chris Gimenez - back up C (1 spot) also There is a 3-way fight for the 1B/DH type between Park/Vargas(40 man)/Hague . If Park (likely he should) or Hague make it, they need 1 most spot (2 spots) also there is another 3 way fight for the 25th man spot between D.Santana (40-man)/E.Adrianza (40 man) and B Gonzalez. Santana looks like will get that spot, but regardless this battle will open a 40 man spot (even if Gonzalez gets it that will be -2 +1) so (1 spot needed net) If either Tonkin or Haley do not make it, that will open another spot. I cannot see both making it, so that will take care of the last spot needed. So you do not need Perkins' 60-day DL spot yet. Boshers has an option left, so there is no need to risk losing him now That adds up.
  11. After his last couple appearances, I'd say that Shaggy needs to spend some time in Rochester to get his command where it needs to be...
  12. That's not the thing here. It is not the Perkins situation. The people who ran the Twins' draft had the idea that you can get College relievers who throw hard and make them top of the rotation starters. Did not quite work out for the Twins. Jay at least got out of there fast enough to be able to help the team. Cederoth and Bard and (partially) Melotakis are still suffering from that approach. You cannot wash out something that was never there other in people's minds who tried to force it.
  13. A grand total of 1 season. Actually less that one season: 13 starts at Fort Myers, then 2 more at Chattanooga before he was in the pen for 3 more appearances. Got to give it to them that this was not too long...
  14. I am with you here. Can this rotation be as good as 2010? Not sure, though.
  15. I took a shot at my thoughts on who will be the 25 whom the Twins will call upon, yesterday, here. As far as position players we have the same with the exception that I have Park over Vargas. Vargas has not seen much game time this Spring and Park has been playing very well. Not necessarily my personal preference, but I think that the Twins will bring Santana up North over both Arianza and Bengie Gonzalez (Gonzalez a dark horse here, but has options). I think that the Stubbs train passed. I got the pitching slightly different as well. I just cannot see how Hector Santiago will be ready to start games when he pitched max 2-2/3 innings and even pitched with 2 days rest. I have him in the pen over Duffey (who has options) with both Berios and Mejia making the rotation. The only other difference is that I have Haley over Chargois in the pen. I think that the Twins like Haley enough to keep him and I don't see them working out a trade with the Red Sox. Other than these few differences, it is pretty close.
  16. Felix Hernandez killed himself and 2 people (who are suing his estate, btw) while driving his boat high on cocaine and way above the legal alcohol limit (Facts). I'd say A was likely the correct answer here...
  17. We all have one piece of data: 103 losses. Undisputable, no? Were the leaders of that team effective? I'd say no, and I bet that would be the answer (opinion) of 99% of the people out there Was Dozier a leader? It really does not matter. If he were, he was ineffective (and he should go) and if he were not, he is selfish (all those home runs, he better care about leading the team to a better record) and he should go. No middle way about this one 1-0-3. FACT
  18. He was one of the "leaders" in the 103 L team, which means that a. his leadership skills were lacking by 1. being interested more in individual vs team achievement or 2.. lacking the ability to inspire/move/take his teammates on his back and strive for a winning season. That's why...
  19. Because he is part of the problem, like Santana, Kintzler and all other veterans, plus he is tradable.
  20. Irritated why? The "leaders" of an 103 loss team were not good leaders. Instead of irritated, they need to go, starting with that Dozier...
  21. Mejia. Again, FWIW, Santiago has not pitched long enough into the games with Puerto Rico where he has been used as a reliever to ensure that he will be stretched enough to start in April. Max 2-2/3 IP at a time
  22. If anything, there are a few red flags in there. He needed 52 pitches to get over 4 innings. Way too many if he were that much ahead of his competition. Comparison point: Phil Hughes (who I am not sure that he is ready) threw 57 pitches in 5 innings yesterday at Tampa. "Only" 13 pitches an inning for a high schooler who aspires to be number 1 overall is big trouble. And here is the kicker from that writeup: "Prior to Greene’s outing, Carter Kessinger pitched a complete game in Wednesday’s win over Loyola." So Greene throwing only 52 pitches and laboring to get over 4 innings, while his teammate was allowed to have a complete game the day before, puzzles me. Just.too.risky.
