  1. Yes, but I've made a bad hire into a good hire by proper management, oversight and motivation. Hire the people is #1 Yes, but you could hire the right people and manage them incorrectly and wreck it too.
  2. You covered it. Great write up! I'll point to squads like Milwaukee as an example of how much better we should be, than we actually are. I got your point on Rocco, but at this point its glaringly obvious he isn't getting the most out his players, and he doesn't push the right buttons during games. He's one of many problems, but a big problem he is no question.
  3. 🎯 Duran and Vasquez (w/Dodgers paying full boat for Vasquez) for Rushing and Ferris. No brainer. I much prefer keeping Jax 👍
  4. What a mess. I am sadly in agreement. I don't mind losing as much as I cannot stand playing poorly. Play well, get beat, no problem. We'll strap it on tomorrow and go get em. I want to be a team like Milwaukee. I watched that series and marveled at the hussle, the teamwork, the moxy, the spirit. I didn't notice a great disparity in talent between us? I wish we had different leadership. Different front office and a different manager. We don't have Dodger talent, but we have talent. At least Milwaukee talent. We could be better and we could certainly be more fun to watch, win or lose. Hated to see the Tiger organization just fly by us. That's on Falvey and Rocco.
  5. Sounds like a "sell high" candidate if we were inclined to bolster this squad, as Miranda would have also been 2 years ago.
  6. This ☝️ Minor salary dump should be expected. Both Castro & Bader make enough to provide some meaningful salary relief. Pohlad seems stuck with this team for the duration of 2025, and we are stuck w/him it seems. France is cheap, and could bring back a prospect. Maybe a big market contender loses a shortstop and we move Correa? Nothing would surprise me "except" bolstering this squad. No bolstering this year in my opinion.
  7. I guess brevity on my part would have made a better comment; My 2 points were "don't trade Joe Ryan for prospects" and "don't be afraid to sell high on prospects" Obviously in hindsight, late '23 would have been the "sell high" on Severino time and, we got an excellent run out of Sonny, and wouldn't have seen Petty yet. That was it.
  8. This is a great example of why the Twins should be very careful in thinking they could move Joe Ryan IF they get "blown away" by an offer. Including Severino in a late season 2023 package of prospects would have brought back a "Joe Ryan like" proven major league starter. Prospects are just that. Prospects. If we think re-tooling looks like trading a "proven major league well-above average starter" for a couple top 100 prospects we're making a mistake in my opinion. How is Chase Petty doing for the Reds? I'll answer, he just finally made his debut in the majors this year and has been pounded, and now is back down. We got an excellent "well-above average" major league pitcher for him and he had a nice run for us. Petty may, or may not ever make it.
  9. Agree entirely with your assessment but I'd go further to bring in some big upside future talent. I'd trade either Jax or Duran & either Wallner or Larnach. Whichever brings back the most. And my dream trade would include Correa off the books. We never had any business paying one player $37M, nothing against Correa. We need a big market big contender to lose there shortstop in the next few weeks.
  10. At this juncture it would be more productive to hypothesize a return for the players Falvey probably deals if we continue to lose. The Castro article was productive. We deal him and the others of worth on expiring deals, Bader, France and Coulumbe. Maybe also go as deep as Duran & either Larnach or Wallner? The sale, or no sale of the team also matters I'm sure.
  11. The sale, or the no sale of the team will matter. If we're selling, we stand more pat, maybe a fringe move. If we're not selling, Pohlad says cut salaries. The moves there will be Castro and Bader for sure - and could there be a big move on Correa. Does a big market team lose a shortstop in the next few weeks? Falvey isn't going to trade Wallner or Larnach for prospects at this point. If we trade it will be to cut salary in my opinion.
  12. mlbtraderumors.com reporting one hour ago "Minnesota will reportedly call up top prospect Zebby Matthews (1.93 ERA in AAA) to take on Milwaukee's top starter Freddie Peralta
  13. Thanks brother! My Mom used to come in my room late at night and turn the radio off and take the baseball cap off my head. Fell asleep to Herb Carneal every game night in the 70's. Gene Mauch & Tom Kelly were the greatest managers I watched. Great combination of fire & discipline. Players coaches, but tough as hell both of them. God Bless!
  14. Love this! Thanks old Twins friend! I didn't make it to the park until '73. The 1970's were lean years, but we had so much fun, and then Gene Mauch came along and we got better and were fun to watch. 1977 was probably my favorite year in that decade. What an enjoyable team to follow.
  15. Ditto. Nothing reminds me of being a kid more than baseball. I used to line up along the first baseline before games at the old Met and wait for Rod Carew to come over for autographs. Most great memories I have include baseball in some way. Loved the frosty malt w/the wooden spoon & knothole day double-headers. I could spend the whole day at the park, and I did quite often. It's supposed to be a kids game. Now it's a billionaires play thing.
  16. Wow! Loved this! I was just checking in to see if we fired anyone. This team needs leadership. Our 5 leaders are not getting the job done. In descending order 1) Pohlad 2) Falvey 3) Baldelli 4) Buxton 5) Correa Which one can we fire? Is anyone ever going to held accountable? We must be the worst team in baseball these last 50 games? Do we play another 50 as is? Probably. Dammit Pohlad. He can't even sell the team properly.
  17. Agreed! Obviously Falvey Had Pohlad's backing to sign a $37M player. Guessing Falvey at one time thought he'd have a bigger budget to work with 👍
  18. I do wish Falvey would have emulated them in not saddling us with a $37M shortstop. That financial commitment changed everything. Small market teams cannot have a $37M player. One player cannot be 30% of the teams total payroll in my opinion, and with Buxton & Lopez we are devoting 60% of the teams total payroll to 3 players. Falvey did not emulate them when he concocted this allocation of resources. This is going to force a Lopez trade at the deadline if we stink. Ugh.
  19. No Chance. That's a bold statement. I hope you are right because the only way you are right is if we play well. I want to watch good baseball. It is way too early in the season to turn off the game in the 5th. I cannot stand poor execution and sloppy play. That Miranda out at 2B was disgusting. What happened to that kid?
  20. Not sure I follow this? If we still stink by June, no doubt Rocco gets canned and it costs us nothing to replace him with a current salaried employee. I'd pick Toby. It worked in late '86 with TK.
  21. Leadership is the issue. It starts with Pohlad, goes to Falvey, to Rocco, and then to Buxton & Correa. These 5 men are to blame in descending order. Interchanging the components below these 5 men gets us nothing. Championship baseball / Quality baseball takes more than the most talented and productive 26 men. We lack leadership.
  22. The world of commercial real estate and the world of financing says the Pohlads probably NEED to sell. With Buffet dumping all his real estate holdings, very little in the way of demand for commercial real estate, and the high borrowing costs on debt, the Pohlads "other" businesses are in trouble. Cashing out on the Twins solves a lot of their problems. If they get a qualified buyer they sell.
