  1. And perhaps Loretta Lynn. I know he's modern, but Garth has really done a lot within the country realm to bridge it from the 80s where few people were listening to the modern brand, which I'm not completely a fan of, where huge stadiums are sold out by country acts who aren't even topping the charts. The Chris Gaines thing even was fun for what it was.
  2. I swear I had him on one of my lists one year, but he didn't make the cut this year. He was on a preliminary list... Solid performer and musician. Sad to hear.
  3. After doing a B-R Play Index search, the lowest was Rob Deer in 1992 with 32 homers and 64 RBI. That was tied by Felix Mantilla in 1964, who hit 30 and drove in 64. So, gunnarthor was correct.
  4. We don't have one yet, so here's your thread for all things NOT Twins-related... First, to start...Clayton Kershaw - still f'ing good.
  5. Not directly into the bag also includes going past the bag by definition.
  6. My brothers and I and my nephew are my reference points....so I suppose I may be exaggerating just a touch based on personal experience, but it doesn't mean they haven't HEARD that instruction anyway. Whether they register it is another thing.
  7. This is a story much bigger outside of the game than inside it. Murphy was trying to cover his butt for his poor defense and not turning the DP, and Markakis admitted he had a terrible slide that likely cost the team the game. The players know, and it's due to the fact that Markakis had no way to stay on the base, even though he stayed in the base line. Any tee ball player knows you can't run through second or third base; the new rule just spells it out more clearly.
  8. Because that's exactly the same spirit and moment of Bautista's bat flip. Jeez, man, come back from the ledge please, because you're going way off the cliff trying (poorly) to make a point.
  9. I like Tyler White in Houston as a dark horse AL ROY candidate.
  10. My guess was Pete Incaviglia in the late 80s.
  11. I just don't know how the Phillies end up better than Atlanta this season. Seriously, what is there? The Braves have four guys who would immediately step in as closer for the Phillies, and then you add in a rotation headed by Jeremy Hellickson, who wouldn't have a rotation spot in Atlanta. I just don't see it. Philly has been doing a tremendous job getting prospects, no argument there.
  12. The Braves had this situation last season with Daniel Winkler, who they had on the DL all the way until about the last week of the season and now have to have on the MLB roster this season as part of their Rule 5 requirements. They also had to fulfill Andrew McKirihan's Rule 5 requirements to acquire him last season, only to have him need Tommy John this spring now that he was free of those restrictions. You can have a guy spend the entire season on the DL. Heck, he can spend multiple seasons on the DL, but you have to keep him on your MLB DL, which pays him a MLB minimum salary, and also you must still have the player active the requisite amount of days (beyond allowable rehab days) in the majors before he's allowed to go down to the minors.
  13. Depends on when they sell. When they sell off the vets like Markakis, Johnson, Grilli, Aybar, and etc., i could honestly see the young players coming up, and with their late schedule (a lot of games against the Phillies, Marlins, Reds, Padres, and Rockies, who will all be fighting for the top pick most likely), I could see a late push to really spoil those betting the under by getting 70-73 wins. I've seen in the range of 67-69 wins projected.
  14. Over. 3rd in the division. Probably not much more than 85 wins, but .500. Interested to hear the NL discussion around here
  15. The NBA Lockdown guys were discussing Batum this week and basically said that he's a guy that fans will be blown away by the money he gets this offseason because teams love his skill set. I'm sure Portland would love to have had him this season, even though they moved him for financial reasons.
  16. So, Nova shot the lights out as everyone was told throughout the game, but this I found incredible... Villanova took a total of 68 shots between field goals and free throws. They only missed 19 times the entire game. Crazier still, they grabbed 7 offensive rebounds, so on over 1/3 of their misses (36.8% to be exact), they got the rebound and were able to put the ball up again! Incredible shooting game by Villanova, really establishing that they deserved to be a #1 all along. I'm not a huge college basketball nut, but I've noted some of the more advanced ranking systems coming out now, one of which had Kansas, UNC, Nova, and Michigan State as their top 4 teams coming into the tourney, which surprised me to see two of those four as 2-seeds rather than 1-seeds.
  17. Though if you could put a time stamp on the call from the officer that called in her plates along with the cell phone records...
  18. Not a fan of having pranks done to me, so I do not partake in them, but today has always been about my father's birthday anyway, so I just let the day roll by and ensure those around me know that their future existence relies upon them celebrating his birthday and not pranking me...
  19. I've seen them three times now. I'd love to check it out, but I'm covering for a friend's last weekend of her maternity leave at work, and I quite literally signed up for that weekend and then saw the ticket announcement an hour later. I was sad... Best arrangement I ever saw Metallica in was with Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, and Mudvayne at the Target Center (I hope the renovations do something to actually make the place listenable for a concert...), and either Deftones or Mudvayne (I honestly forget which as I've seen both outside of that concert as well) couldn't perform due to illness to the lead singer, so Metallica added not the scheduled 30-minute set of the band that couldn't perform, but another HOUR to their set to close out the night. I was loving it.
  20. Oy...another really good number. If I were putting a range, I'd have them 85-88, so I guess I'm going over just because more of my range is over, but I really like that over/under number. One thing I do think folks are sleeping on is those who are ripping on Ian Kennedy and predicting a 5 ERA and 1.50 WHIP for the guy. How'd that work out for the same people predicting demise for Edinson Volquez last year?
  21. I really like Daniel Norris and Michael Fulmer as guys who can pitch well in 2016 at the back of the rotation. The thing not mentioned yet here is this may be the best depth in the bullpen they've had in a long time. Pairing Saltalamacchia with McCann behind the plate will be a much better pairing than Avila with McCann. Justin Upton is a tremendous upgrade to a lineup over Yoenis. I think the team is in the hunt in July. I just don't know that they have any bullets to use to address issues that need fixing in July.
  22. Heavy under. I could see Kluber and Carrasco both being dealt (or rumored such) by midseason, Salazar exploding, and their lineup is horrid, especially until Brantley returns. I actually have the Indians in last in the AL Central.
  23. If I were going to bet, I'd put their number on 79-82 wins, so this is really a perfect line. I'll take the over, but just by the skin of teeth.
  24. Basically, if you charge an admission fee to get in the door, streaming it live for free should only be done if the admission fee is considered a donation.
