  1. The mlbpa did announce they are pursuing a grievance now that LaRoche turned in his papers.
  2. Definitely under here. Beane can do a lot with a little, but there's very little here. That said, I like what they're doing with rebuilding their farm system, though the Khris Davis trade made very little sense for that purpose.
  3. I'm taking the under. I just don't see the innings in the rotation, something they'll really miss out of losing Buehrle, and their bullpen is so volatile that I could see them being a fantasy owner's dream with beer league softball type scores each night.
  4. He's reportedly working with a Sylvan Learning Center during the season to keep up with classes throughout the season and then returning to regular classroom outside of the season.
  5. You ignored the point I made that it was very common from March to May each spring and in September and October for kids in my class to miss full weeks of class to help on the farm during planting, harvest, and calving seasons on their respective farms, so while my parents didn't pull me frequently, it did happen a few times.
  6. I binged House of Cards last weekend, knowing this was coming out, and then it worked that I was able to work through DD2 this weekend. Now, for Kimmy Schmidt...nowhere near the same line of show, but good comic relief.
  7. I don't know. I gave up playing baseball because it was too much time away from the farm in the summer, where I spent nearly all of my time from about age 8-9 on up helping my dad each day. My classmates frequently would have a missed day of class to help on the farm during the school year throughout even high school, and then your summer was basically dedicated to the farm. So that life still exists plenty, and of all my classmates, 0 have become farmers.
  8. Very intriguing stuff. Thanks for the post and the link!
  9. Yes, I acknowledged that earlier. The guy I was talking with very well had not been informed yet by Adam that he'd taken that step as they were filed Friday and I spoke with him Saturday morning.
  10. Once again, based on second hand info from a guy who is admittedly a friend of Adam's, there is a clause in his contract not explicit on the amount of time, but that the kid would be allowed. His understanding when we talked Saturday morning was that Adam was trying to settle with the White Sox to make this go away, but his next step would be filing retirement papers with MLBPA and having them step in to recoup the entire $13M.
  11. I hadn't been following this that closely, but I'd wager my source simply was not yet informed as that happened Friday. It was a big deal to hold back on filing to see if a deal could be done. In lieu of that, he'd file, and then it'd be the MLBPA arguing for him to get the full salary, not a negotiated portion like Cuddyer got.
  12. Sounds like he announced, but he has not signed everything due to a payout agreement needing to be reached, much like Michael Cuddyer didn't officially retire until the contract stuff was all worked out, even though it was clear he wasn't coming back. Nothing's been filed to the league office anyway.
  13. So, in talking about a prospect with an Atlanta scout (and a friend of Adam's unbeknownst to me before this conversation), I found out that there is a clause in the contract, and Adam reacted quickly to Williams due to being so upset at the request coming out of the blue, something never discussed with the LaRoche family throughout the entirety of the offseason until it was sprung on Adam this spring. What you have to know is that LaRoche does have diagnosed and confirmed adult ADHD. He can react impulsively, and reportedly he sprung the "retirement" to the media without talking with his agent or representation. Upon having that conversation, he was informed that he had a contractual right to a procedure before any changes happened with his son's access to the locker room that was not followed, and he had a right to every dollar of his 2016 salary, even if he didn't play a minute of baseball. That's what changed Adam's approach. That, and the response of his teammates, who, while not unanimous, in very strong majority supported him pursuing the full contract for 2016, convinced him to pull back on the "retirement". This is all second-hand information, obviously, but I do trust the source. It's very interesting to say the least to see how this goes.
  14. It does seem as if DD is the show that ties all the Netflix Marvel shows together, with all the intermingled characters run through DD and receiving mention on the show at some point in the season. I rather like how they end up intermingling all of it.
  15. At the same point, and agree for sure!
  16. 23 year-old Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker
  17. Michigan State was the selected winner of about 23% of all brackets on ESPN. The only team selected to win it all more was Kansas at 25%.
  18. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/joe-biden-supreme-court-nominee-1992-219635 That's the entire speech, much of which has been ignored, especially the fact that he would have no problem working with a "compromise" candidate, but just would not support a forced partisan candidate. Regardless, those comments were made when there was not a single opening on the court. It's akin to me saying that I would like to marry a supermodel in a year ending in 6. I'm currently married, so that's not an option legally in my state, but I would like to marry a supermodel. Now, if my wife would use that comment twenty years from now to state that I did not any longer want to be married to her in 2036, then we're on par with what the Republicans are doing with this statement. Biden could make that statement all he wanted when it wasn't even an issue at the time, but using it as reason when there is actually an opening on the court is disingenuous at best and flat-out scum at worst.
  19. Make sure you get the whole quote before going there. Biden's comments have been taken very strongly out of context for Republican talking points.
  20. Clown move, bro. Please don't choke me!
  21. He could have. LaRoche made the choice to retire rather than fight back. He would have had grounds to fight back if it's written, and he may not have realized that.
  22. Over. I honestly think their bullpen may be even better than the Yankees: Kimbrel, Uehara, Carson Smith, Tazawa, Heath Hembree, and then the lefty that loses the starting competition among Eduardo Rodriguez/Henry Owens/Brian Johnson very well may stay in the majors in the bullpen for depth as well. Robbie Ross found his niche as a LOOGY, so a second lefty that could go multiple innings could make that one of the deepest bullpens in the league.
  23. I'm pretty sure by sick that he meant disabled, and they also draw their benefits from Social Security.
  24. Over I think Hicks and Castro were nice additions to the lineup. I like what you may see from Gary Sanchez this season that could allow Tex being out to be not a big deal as McCann's bat could be in the lineup more. Castro will provide better than the .190 that Stephen Drew hit last season, and Didi Gregorious and Chase Headley certainly can be better. I think assuming Sabathia holds much bearing on the season is name recognition only, as Sabathia right now is their 4/5 starter. There's enough upside youth and experience alongside of it to have me say over, just a bit.
  25. Dempster left $13.25M on the table when he sat out voluntarily before retiring: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/10/ryan-dempster-to-retire.html
