  1. Seriously?! The imagery and comments wanted on the Bibles were what the objections were, not the Bible cakes themselves. She offered to make the cakes and let the guy add his own hate speech, even, but she just refused to add his imagery and verbage to them. And don't come with the Bible verse quotes. The verses he requested are oft used by anti-homosexual crowd completely out of context and out of translation. Ignorance of the meaning of the words you're using does not equal a lack of hate intended.
  2. As Levi just said, it's an entirely different thing when you make the same decision to any group. If you want to have specific rules for a specific group, you need to have it in legal documentation and in your advertising. Choosing not to be open on Tuesdays is not against any one group, and it would not be eligible in a civil rights case. Chick-Fil-A has actually had cases attempted more than once to force them open on Sundays, which is ridiculous, and they never make it anywhere because they're unable to be founded as it's simply not a civil rights issue when you make the same decision across all groups.
  3. You're not comparing apples to apples there, though. The baker didn't deny him due to a belief. She denied him due to the rhetoric of the decorating he wanted done, and it was determined that the baker would have denied similar hate rhetoric to anyone who asked. That part is within their right if it is applied to all groups evenly.
  4. $0. My wife loves me, and I have no desire to have others walking the street be more attracted to me, so increased attractiveness would have no monetary appeal to me.
  5. In this country, if you advertise a service, you have to be willing to provide it to anyone who request the service and is willing to pay the price you request. With catering, it is best to un-tie the catering from the actual bakery as a separate entity where you advertise specifically to the groups you are willing to serve. If you don't specify a certain group that you are selling your services to in your business model, you need to be willing to serve all, so yes, the homosexual baker would need to bake a cake for Westboro that says "God Hates Fags" if the bakery hasn't explicitly stated that it will not work with someone who is anti-homosexual. That's the basics on the whole issue. There really shouldn't be a slippery slope on either side, just some paperwork and intentional advertising. That intentional advertising very well may cost them business, but that's what would legally protect them.
  6. And I would get that most wouldn't know Bobby Mathews. Hell, it's a fluke I would, but Billy Williams is a very well known ball player from that era that most even in their 30s have grown up knowing as one of the all-time great base stealers. You'd have to intentionally weed him out of #4 in order to answer it, which is weird.
  7. So does anyone know what's going on in this league??
  8. Um, I think your question lied... #1 is Bobby Mathews, who was a player before 1900. I only know that because he played for Boston before they became the Braves, and his numbers are such that he's one of the few keeping Tom Glavine from the top 10 innings pitched among former Braves, I believe. I researched this for an article at one point. #2 would be Feller #3 was Palmeiro before McGwire fell off the ballot this year #4 was easy for me...that's something an old baseball card guy kept track of growing up - Henderson, Brock, Hamilton, Cobb, Raines. But again, Hamilton was a guy whose career ended in 1901.
  9. I'm wondering who does. I've yet to meet a single person, ever.
  10. I want Trump to either drop out to stop hearing the Democrat BS from a particular poster or to win the whole thing just for the wonder that will come forth in the response thereafter.
  11. I think he was going for starting pitcher....
  12. Yeah, With the field, I'm not saying it was a sabre issue or anything, just that's something I've noted - he's horrid via stats, but gets decent marks from scouts still, so there's a level of disconnect, but those decent marks from scouts are by no means saying he should even be a full time shortstop. With the bat, he's definitely gone down hill, but yet I do think it's interesting that he's viewed so much more negatively than a guy like Andrus, who's making ridiculous money for the foreseeable future.
  13. That's what numbers say, but it depends on who you talk with. He's got solid hands and decent enough range, but his arm is meh. That's why he was moved to 2B in the Angels system, but he can handle short as long as the arm issues are understood. Scouts like him a lot more than numbers do at short, that's for sure.
  14. Yeah. That sucked
  15. Yeah, the numbers on Diaz last year were nuts. He played for their advanced rookie league team at 19, and in 312 plate appearances put up a line of .360/.436/.640 with 13 home runs and 12 steals along with 25 doubles and 6 triples and a 34/65 BB/K rate. The Dbacks moved him to second for a few games of last season, but most think he might fit better at third as his issue is more range than arm at short. He was a cold-weather high school player (Massachusetts) that went in the 2nd round, so he's still plenty raw as well.
  16. I watched "Happy Valley" this weekend. Definitely a slant toward Penn State sympathy in the documentary, but a very different take than the media fed as well in respect to what Paterno's role was and the legal ramifications of it, and the university's handling of the issue with the family during and after the trial. I'm very much interested in Drone.
  17. This is a deal that could end up win-win for sure. I like Segura on the Dbacks. They had guys who really brought nothing offensively (not that Segura is some sort of offensive catalyst, but at least the man can run) while playing passable defense, and Segura is a guy who can at least give the Dbacks options at both middle infield positions at a fairly cheap rate. I loved the tweet I saw this weekend (and I admittedly forgot who it was from, but I do recall it being a scout-esque person) that stated that Segura and Elvis Andrus are basically the same player offensively while Segura provides better hands and less arm defensively, yet Andrus is getting $100M between now and 2022 guaranteed while Segura's locked into just under $3M for 2016 and team control for 2 more seasons, so that's a pretty valuable piece. On the Brewers side, I'm not a fan of Anderson whatsoever, so we'll toss that aside, but I've always liked Hill more than I thought I should, even if he's only there a year. He could be a guy who has a solid first half and is flipped as well. This also lets them see what they have in Jon Villar before turning over SS to Arcia next year (or allows SS to be open if Arcia pushes for the job this season). The big thing that could swing this deal for the Brewers is Diaz. He's a guy who has received rave reviews since being drafted, and while he likely isn't a shortstop long term, there's been a lot of comparisons to either Ian Desmond with better patience or Robinson Cano with more speed as his ultimate upside. That's one hell of a player, obviously, and if he gets to even 90% of that, the Brewers win this deal by a mile.
  18. Based on my views and his scouting reports on Braves guys, Callis is typically the least "in the know" of any of the major prospect guys, which is why I usually give the MLB.com list the least credence. I respect that he's been around the game for a long time, but he has some pretty heavy biases, and that includes some very strong biases toward certain scouting departments/GMs/personnel groups in the game, so he'll uptick their players significantly. The Athletics have been a big one that he's bumped up over the years.
  19. I've posted on TD and BYTO going back a number of years fantasy rankings by position. I just published my series of rankings this week on Tomahawk Take, so I'll include the links here. Realize this is for a Braves site, so there's a Braves tilt to the end of the article... Catchers First Basemen/Designated Hitters Second Basemen Third Basemen Shortstop Outfielders Starting Pitchers Relief Pitchers
  20. Someone loading up on musicians this year would be off to an early lead: Paul Kantner, founding member of Jefferson Airplane, passed away yesterday at 74.
  21. I was in elementary school, watching it live on TV. We all sat in stunned silence for a number of minutes until our teacher broke out bawling. One of the worst live tragedies I've ever witnessed - second only to watching the towers fall live from the media room in the Sports Pavillion with the other sports marketing staff.
  22. Every person has their own preference of which naked they like, and it's all just fine as long as it's two consenting adults...
  23. Cespedes is with Jay-z's Roc Nation Sports, not Boras Perhaps that's true regardless of agent, but notice that most are taking opt outs that position them to hit free agency again after 2017 or even earlier. I wonder if there's some sentiment that there's going to be some big money headed the players' way in the new CBA.
  24. Jared Burton has received a 50-game suspension. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/jared-burton-receives-fifty-game-suspension.html
  25. Was making a joke on no one from Jersey having an IQ over 75. I love messing with guys from Jersey on the Braves boards I'm on because they're very self aware as well LOL
