  1. In baseball, it starts in the minor leagues. I'm not trying to pump up the Braves here, but last season part of a trade they made was acquiring a 30-something catcher that never left AAA all season. He then retired after the season and is now at Rome as their bench coach. It just so happens that Rome has Ronald Acuna from Venezuela, one of the more intriguing under-the-radar prospects in the game currently, among many other Latin players filling the Rome roster. Stuck in Georgia, having a guy like Jose Yepez on that team is huge, and especially seeing that the Braves will have some big guys from recent J2 classes passing through Rome this year and intend to be spending big time this year. One of the things that bugged me personally about the Brian Snitker promotion to manager is that Luis Salazar wasn't moved up to Gwinnett in his stead. Salazar is one of those great baseball guys that has been amazing in the Braves organization and certainly should be seeing some options. All that said, there are great candidates out there like Dave Martinez and Alex Cora that want to manage, yet they can't seem to get a job offered to them at the big league level. What does that say?
  2. I'm not sure what you're saying on that at all. The Braves are not trying to sell anyone. They're trying to trade for picks by acquiring a bad contract in exchange for the CBP picks.
  3. Women and minorities both in the front office, but I don't think any good candidate that's white is truly getting passed over...
  4. The crazy thing is that if you think about it, who are really the Latino managerial candidates? Dave Martinez and Alex Cora are the seeming two cross-league ones. Eddie Perez is one for the Braves for sure, and they have hired a few guys in their minor league system as coaches that are Latino, but I still don't know the movement of those guys to the majors.
  5. Manning is being discussed as high as 4 now. That's incredible helium. Dunn's gone from early second to mid first, sure, but Manning has gone from 15-20 to top 5!
  6. And I think the Braves might rather have Pint.
  7. The Braves have been trying this for over two months to no avail. They made calls starting all the way back in spring training, and they're not getting anyone at all to take a bite.
  8. Yup. I have a lot of really good connections that I use that are team scouts and independent scouts throughout the country along with other team employees, and you've suddenly heard a ton of weird things in the last week...so it's "draft speak" season, where lots of crap will be tossed out, and you need to know your source to know what is real and what isn't. The issue is when someone blindly trusts all sources and prints the draft speak as fact.
  9. Gotta love the draft...
  10. Manning has a ton of helium right now, though. I had him top 10 in my most recent mock, and MLB Pipeline just mentioned him as a candidate to go as high as 6-7.
  11. Just keep up on your TPS reports, and we'll look the other way. May even put in a good word with the Bobs!
  12. Yeah, that was on Sunday evening into Monday morning. I guess the Odor/Bautista thing just kept us all too busy to notice
  13. Bill Simmons has his "Conspiracy Theory Lottery", which has ended up closer than actual projections each year (though taking just the highest odds gets you the best shot, but no one wants to do that - it's no fun!). Simmons has the TWolves getting the #1 pick in his conspiracy theory lottery.
  14. Ask the early 1990s Los Angeles Dodgers...
  15. This is my mock for Call to the Pen with a description for each pick on why I put each guy where I did...
  16. The Braves TV announcers are terrible, but to rank them behind the Nationals shows that this is an invalid poll. The Nationals announcers are widely regarded as a drain on the entire industry, making Paul Allen seem very objective as an announcer in comparison.
  17. It was coming down to the wire, but Fredi Gonzalez narrowly beat out Brad Ausmus for the honor of the first manager fired, losing his job with the Braves today. Ausmus is coming soon, I'm sure.
  18. He was hit 48 times in his career. You're saying none of them were ever after a home run? Nevermind times that the ball missed him and didn't result in an HBP. Selective memory bias...
  19. He was immediately. I don't know how that wasn't clear. The ump threw him out as soon as the ball hit Fielder.
  20. There's a lot of messy with that, too. For instance, how would the Twins field minor league teams?
  21. My new draft mock
  22. I won't rip on a guy for enjoying the moment and celebrating. I used to slap my glove after a strike out on the mound. I didn't even know I did it until someone pointed it out. There's a point where it's celebration and another where it's pre-meditated showmanship.
  23. Fernando Rodney shoots an arrow after every save. There are a number that still celebrate on the mound.
  24. I wrote my first article for Call to the Pen on how the draft would be a major focus of the upcoming CBA. I believe the international market will be as well. You best believe that there are incredible investigations into any possible misbehavior in the draft or signings going into the offseason CBA so they can have evidence of a broken system.
  25. BA released their top 200 as well. I'm releasing my Mock Draft 2.0 in about 15 minutes.
