Papelbon suspended the rest of the season. 3 games by MLB 4 games by Washington on top of that. After the comments from Mike Rizzo today, it sounds like Papelbon will be a free agent over the winter.

Last season, yes, but that was also questioning his manager, and his manager has aptly shown this year that there is significant reason to question anything he says or does. This year, he's been danged near a model citizen, as that article you reference points out.

That's just the issue. I had the pleasure of seeing Harper twice during my honeymoon this summer. Against Milwaukee, he essentially created the first run of the game by hustling hard down the line on a possible double play ball, causing the second baseman to rush and air mail the throw, which allowed a runner on second when the play started to score. In the same game, he busted hard after a "gapper", picking the ball up on one hop and immediately firing to second on a ball that in many cases would have been to the wall. In Scherzer's near-perfect game, Harper went all out to snare a foul fly ball, ending up 3 rows deep in the stands after diving for the ball and coming up short. However, he hit a comebacker right to the pitcher in Milwaukee and jogged it out, and the group I was with only remembered that about Harper's hustle or lack thereof...

This stems from Harper calling out Papelbon for a crap play where he hit Manny Machado last week (after multiple attempts) because Harper knows that the next day, he's getting head hunted when his pitchers do that crap.

Sad to see Boehner go from a political point of view. When you piss off both parties, you're likely doing something right. This will only lead to the Republican party moving even farther away from center, and, frankly, farther away from the opportunity to have a representative in the White House after 2016.

The problem is that there are drug companies who do that, while there are incredible companies that really do want consumers of their products to receive a benefit. Many would consider anti-psychotics one of those areas of medical abuse, but it absolutely has to do with the psychiatrist prescribing the medications. I'm blessed to work with a pair that would rather have people on as little as possible rather than have three-page medication records for anyone with an SPMI. -

Same here. I'm actually considered someone who would benefit greatly from marijuana due to my lingering glaucoma after my baker's dozen eye surgeries. Oh, the irony of being allergic to the smoke of something that could give you comfort... -
So, here's a little break down I did recently with a consumer who badly wants to work. SSI benefits ~$725 per month if he does nothing but sit at home all day long Part-time job at 10 hours per week at $8.50 minimum wage = $85/weekly, or $368.31 per month. Social Security allows the first $60 of income to be "free" and then from that point 50% of every dollar earned is taken away from pay, so $154.51 removed from the check. $725-$154+$368 = $939 So, $939 > $725, and it sounds great for the consumer, right? Except, due to a seizure disorder, the consumer cannot drive himself to work. Bus in town is $5 per trip, $6 on the same day. If he works his 10 hours over 5 days of 2 hours each (something manageable for his illness), he spends $25/week, or $108.33 per month. Subtract that from the $939, and suddenly you're left with $831. And that's all without any costs assumed for clothes for work or anything like that. For $106 per month, would you join the work force? Now, I will say that 90% of those I work with could never handle a consistent 10 hours per week, but the way the system of pay and costs is set up, there's a very minimal reward for those who do attempt to enter the work place. Then, those who enjoy berating the poor and calling them criminals will also call that gentleman lazy because he doesn't find the value in earning $106/month.

Seriously, people make what they want to make? No, I work in the career field I want to work in. That someone values a guy who runs with a football or throws a baseball nearly 1,000 times more than the work I do is not my decision. I work in mental health, and my wife is a teacher. We were playing around the other night and did the numbers. On a $15/hr minimum wage, we'd take a minuscule hit in our day jobs, but the increase in pay from our part-time jobs would more than make up for that. I would say that we're both working in positions that are not only valuable to society, but absolutely vital to society, but the worth placed on that position, regardless of how much education I pay for, is much lower than my brother who sells agricultural equipment. Sure, I could find a job that pays me more and leave my field of interest and skill and be miserable. Of course, seeing as I'm so close to working at Wendy's in wage, I must be an ex-con as eluded to earlier, right? So no way any "respectable" job would hire me. Nevermind that I work part-time in the correctional system, not behind the bars, so that assumption is out the window as well.

Then again, I've never been drunk, but I've enjoyed many drinks in my life. -
I personally think Twins fans have been able to see three of the best base running vs. base stealing difference examples in the last 20 years, after having possibly the best of all time play a good chunk of his Hall of Fame career here. Rod Carew to me was the best person ever at taking an extra base, hitting first base at such an angle as to get second easily, and hitting the bases just right in order to clear a triple on a hit that at least 2/3 of the league would have been happy with a stand-up double. The modern guys I'd put on the great base running, albeit not great base stealers, list would be Mauer, Span, and Cristian Guzman. Guzman was possibly as close to Carew as I've ever seen going to third on a double when he was a Twin. I try to explain this to many who debate the speed of a player because of his amount or lack of stolen bases to no avail. They often are two very different skill sets.

Many would have the same opinion on prostitution, though that one is hairy because if the only prostitutes in the world were consenting adult women, I think many would be good with legal prostitution (and many are for that reason). I struggle due to the heavy amount of prostitution done through the kidnap or forced labor of underage girls. As far as heroin and cocaine, there's a mammoth difference in the effects of cocaine and heroin on its users compared to marijuana. Marijuana, effects-wise, is most comparable to alcohol with less addictive qualities than alcohol. Marijuana vs. cocaine/heroin is like comparing apples and T-bone steaks. -
Both, but seriously, why would it matter if I voted Green Party, Libertarian, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster Party? My views are not defined by a party, and my vote does not define my views. In a perfect system, that may have some validity, but we're far from a perfect system.

Heck, I'm one of the rare people who'd actually be harmed by marijuana as I have an allergy to marijuana smoke (along with the smoke of a number of other things like sweet grass and sage), and I still don't have a single reason I can point to other than in a mocking manner for having marijuana still illegal, especially when marijuana as studied on a scientific level has less addictive qualities than tobacco or alcohol and also less damages to the body in general. The malicious reports of marijuana joints being worse than tobacco cigarettes is 100% based on commercial cigarettes, which are regulated to include filters to prevent tar. A similar filter on a marijuana cigarette results in less than a third of the tar as tobacco cigarettes in testing. However, I will tell you that a growing amount of people are rolling their own cigarettes due to the high price of filtered cigarettes, which means that comparing the two isn't apples to oranges in the consumption in the community. The biggest worry I have is in the synthetic market. Legalizing real marijuana would quickly put a kibosh to the industry of synthetic marijuana if the real stuff was legal and available. The synthetic stuff is sold legally for "non-consumption" purposes, but it's incredibly dangerous stuff, as much or moreso than straight heroin. I truly believe this market would significantly reduce, if not disappear entirely, upon the federal legalization of marijuana.
