  1. Former Packers and Colts coach Lindy Infante passed away yesterday
  2. They've had some very good teams fall just short over the years, so it's not like no fan has seen them win. They've just not seen a WS win.
  3. Yep, LA, St. Louis, New York, Chicago. Can't be much bigger in baseball markets than that - though, of course the Cardinals somehow remain eligible each year for a compensatory draft pick based on competitive balance because of their small market... Oh, and I could definitely hate those Yankees. They defeated my beloved Braves twice in that era.
  4. As a baseball market, especially with the NHL having already started. One of the great reports I read was in a book on the early 1990s Blue Jays discussing how one guy was surprised to see half of the televisions in a Toronto bar tuned into a World Series game while the other half were tuned into hockey. If, in the midst of a World Series, only half of the TVs at a bar are tuned into baseball in the town of the team playing for the World Series, that says something. That's not a knock on Toronto in general, it's just that as a baseball market, it doesn't really compare to the markets I mentioned.
  5. That was surprising, to say the least.
  6. They like big media markets. Toronto really isn't even in the same breath as a Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, or New York.
  7. So, one of the following teams will represent the AL: Texas, Kansas City, Toronto, Houston. ESPN has to be crapping itself right now.
  8. So, the NBA put in for 2015-2016 a new playoff seeding that ensures that the best record of each round is the home team. I'd rather prefer that. Still have to play in the Wild Card game if you don't win out in your own division, but if you're facing the winner of a pile of crap division like the Mets were this year and you racked up 95+ wins in arguably the toughest division in the league, you should have home field advantage. It still allows for the reward of winning the division and earning a series rather than a play-in game, but it also rewards the team with a better record over the entirety of the season once series start.
  9. I didn't intend to correct. There's been an expanded story put out on that big incident, but a lot of players have said that the clubhouse was quiet after that. That Werth moment was a real watershed moment in their clubhouse, apparently. The writing was on the wall after that for an upcoming firing was pretty strong and Williams lost whatever possible hold he still had in the clubhouse that day. I'd have to find the Washington Post article on it, but it was tremendous.
  10. The rest of your Werth comment is that he was never told that he was going to be given a day off, a very common thing you do as a manager with a veteran player so they can arrange their day differently than they would if they knew they were starting the game. Werth lit into Williams, refusing to take the discussion into Williams' office, pointed around the room to the other teammates, now gathered to hear the comments, and asked Williams along the lines of "When exactly did you realize you lost this team?"
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGY6DqB1HX8 John Oliver discussed mental health on his show last evening, and he highlighted the exact thing I do - ACT teams. However, the thing that bugs me is the perfectly predictable quotes from the Republican presidential candidates shown.
  12. BABIP, high LOB%, whatever. Greinke still posted an ERA a full run lower than Scherzer's.this year, and that happened on the field. I was lucky to be present for Scherzer's near perfect-game against Pittsburgh, and he had an other-worldly season, but it would be a very good season any year. The numbers for the other three would be a clear-cut winner any year.
  13. If Scherzer were 20-8, it wouldn't move his position on my rankings. Kluber did get a vote in my IBWAA ballot.
  14. He's saying the right stuff, and I hope the conversation continues to focus on his recovery, not on the Twitter jokes about his size and performance that tried to creep in after the announcement. (Twitter: worst thing every on the internet, or worst thing ever in history?)
  15. Scherzer could make a great argument in the AL, but Arrieta, Greinke, and Kershaw have each posted seasons that would each win a CY without the other two around. Scherzer's the clear 4 there, but he's still elite on the season.
  16. 2/3 IP, 0 earned runs. However, 8 runs were scored, costing him a chance at 200 IP
  17. From Huron? Hmmm...wonder which neighbor you are. I believe there are about a dozen teams who would love to have Buehrle change his mind. I hope he doesn't Favre it.
  18. Yeah, none of the disrespectful celebrating and enjoying himself while playing a game intended for children and community!
  19. On top of all that, he's arguably the greatest fielding lefty in modern history. Greg Maddux once said that he envied Buehrle's defensive skills. So, is Buehrle a HOFer? 214 wins just short of 3300 innings after tomorrow 1870 strikeouts 116 career ERA+ 5 All-Star games, 4 Gold Gloves, one Cy Young top-5 finish 60 bWAR career He is short on black ink, gray ink, and JAWS, but I wonder if there will be a movement to get him in. Thing is that the guy is only 36. He's still pitching solid and could hang around for another 3-5 years to attempt to get 250+ wins.
  20. The GOP is certainly contradicting your two points. It's hard to assist in truly helping those who are mentally ill (disorder? hello, 1930) to receive the services they truly need when the movement is to de-fund those with boots on the ground and overfund pharmaceuticals and institutions. That's where all the "more mental health awareness and help" from the GOP falls so short - actions, not words, ladies and gentlemen.
  21. I'm excited and also a bit hesitant with what could be for the season. Coming out this strong could lead to a big let down, or it could be a harbinger of a very strong season all the way around.
  22. Yep. Gotham is solid. I am a sucker for crime drama - Criminal Minds, CSI, NCIS, SVU, etc., but even the new stuff along those lines seems so much worse than those staple shows. I will say that I've thoroughly enjoyed Arrow and Flash on CW.
  23. Yup. If he learns how to keep the ball in the park, perhaps he would provide so many ample bat flip opportunities.
  24. Heroes Reborn - Terrible, just terrible. It's as if no one who took over starting in the second season of the show never saw the first season. It keeps regurgitating on the same tired, boring lines.
  25. Major League Baseball should not have allowed one league to go forward and another to not. Either both or none. It'd have saved so many issues that have arisen now over the last 40 years.
