  1. Harold Reynolds has twice called Familia's sinker a split finger. After Familia spent a large part of his media day time explaining that the pitch is a two-seam fastball, you'd think Fox and Reynolds would get that right.
  2. Quite an overstatement. He basically implies that minorities are not smart enough to be GMs because there's so few of them at Ivy League schools. There is a minority issue in the majors right now, but who seriously do you see being shorted? Fredi Gonzalez of the Braves has been credited as the only minority manager in the game, and he'll be fired soon enough. Dave Martinez will likely be the next Dodgers manager, and Dusty Baker is expected to be announced as the Nationals' manager during the World Series, so the article seems to be conveniently timed as well just to emphasize a point.
  3. Royals are the best AL matchup to counter the Mets' pitching, both the starters and Familia (whose sinker is absolutely ridiculous and filthy). The biggest issue for the Mets will be missing by far their best infield defender in Ruben Tejada. With the Royals speed and contact focus, that could lead to a lot of extra hits trickling through the infield, especially up the middle with the poor defensive combination of Daniel Murphy and Wilmer Flores. Mets are one of the better NL matchups for the Royals in that their hitters are noted for their ability to handle high velocity stuff, and once you get into the Royals bullpen, which is their biggest strength, it's a whole lot of velocity that most teams struggle with. The Mets can attack that velocity in their lineup. They'll need another elite offensive performance like Daniel Murphy gave in order to have a chance. I'm taking Royals in 6, but I expect a good series.
  4. Thank you. Obviously a passion of mine. I'd assume Seth has a similar feeling about Twins prospects.
  5. The Braves are picking #3 next June for a reason. A number of the guys mentioned have already made their major league debut. A good number are written as late-season call ups. I have a feeling the Braves will continue to move veteran pieces, which will open 40-man spots for guys like Gant, Ruiz, Thurman, and Sims to make late-season appearances. There are plenty of spots up for grabs in the spring, which is why I see Mallex Smith, Manny Banuelos, and Hector Olivera starting the season in Atlanta with Jenkins being the first AAA guy to fill in for an injury in the rotation.
  6. I go by the standards of most lists, which is basically all ages work as long as they haven't exceeded rookie limits, so that does add some. That said, when you get a team like the Yankees, they have 2 DSL teams, 2 GCL teams, an advance rookie league team, a low-A team, A-ball team, high-A, AA, and AAA. That's 10 teams worth of players. The Braves only have 7 teams, so it's a lot less guys to evaluate (thankfully). That said, I've reviewed roughly 150 hours of video to evaluate players for this list and my writing this year.
  7. I walked off the court after singing the anthem at a Gophers women's basketball game, and he was waiting, gushing over my performance and asking me to sing for the TWolves. He took the time to get my name to give to the game day folks at the Target Center. The next spring, I sang for a TWolves/Raptors game, and he walked over after I sang to shake my hand and let me know he remembered me from that previous fall. Great Gopher player, great TWolves coach, and I got to know him as the coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce as well. RIP Flip!
  8. He's definitely a personal cheeseball of mine. I saw so much of that old form last year, and he's become much more of a pitcher than a thrower now as he's recovered from his surgery and subsequent setbacks.
  9. I had over 150 listed, but my editors didn't want me to go quite that deep. You'd be surprised how many guys I get asked about who aren't on the top 100 that someone is curious why they aren't on the list.
  10. Hence, why Kiley was interested in the organization. It's been a drastic change in the organization philosophy to really push for upside since Frank Wren left 12 months ago.
  11. Yep. I value upside to get on the list, but the higher I get on the list, the more I value proximity to the majors. I've had a lot of people who say no one who's played in the majors should be on the list, but nearly every major publication uses the limitation that if a guy is still able to qualify for the rookie of the year award, they're considered a prospect.
  12. So, I just realized I never updated this with links to the actual list. I know this is the Braves' prospects, not the Twins', but I'd sure appreciate the discussion on the methodology as well as I'm always working to make a better product to read. 81-100 61-80 41-60 21-40 1-20 As far as the formatting of the articles themselves, I don't get a lot of control over that, so no need to comment on the insane advertising and faux page clicks of a slide show format.
  13. In-season moves for each playoff team and their respective bWAR: Toronto - 4.5 bWAR added Price - 2.4 Tulowitzki - 1.4 Revere - 0.6 Hawkins - 0.1 Lowe - 0.0 Yankees - 0.3 bWAR added Ackley - 0.3 Royals - 0.8 bWAR added Zobrist - 1.2 Cueto - 0.2 Butera - (-0.2) Gomes - (-0.4) Rangers - 2.8 bWAR added Hamels - 1.7 Diekman - 0.9 Napoli - 0.4 Venable (-0.1) Stubbs (-0.1) Astros - 1.0 bWAR added Fiers - 1.0 Gomez - 0.7 Kazmir - 0.0 Perez - (-0.7) Mets - 3.6 bWAR added Cespedes - 2.3 Uribe - 0.8 Reed - 0.6 Johnson - 0.3 Clippard - 0.2 Young - 0.1 O'Flaherty (-0.7) Cardinals - 1.0 bWAR added Cishek 0.4 Broxton 0.4 Moss - 0.2 Pirates - 3.3 bWAR added Happ - 1.9 Blanton - 0.8 Soria - 0.7 Morse - 0.2 Ishikawa - (-0.1) Ramirez - (-0.2) Cubs - 0.8 bWAR added Richard - 0.4 Cahill - 0.3 Haren - 0.2 Jackson - 0.2 Rodney - 0.2 Medina - (-0.1) Hunter - (-0.2) Soriano - (-0.2) Dodgers - (-0.7) bWAR added Utley - 0.9 Ruggiano - 0.6 Wood - 0.2 Thomas - 0.2 Avilan - (-0.2) Peraza - (-0.2) Latos - (-0.6) Johnson - (-1.6) Not everyone's big moves resulted in big additions to the team, unless you're referring to the placebo effect of adding a player to the roster.
  14. The big thing not mentioned here is that the Mets still kept David Wright, Johan Santana, and many others as they were trading away other pieces. They did get overwhelmed for some pieces, and they picked up guys along the way to fill in like Granderson and Cuddyer. The big thing that the Mets have to be thankful on is the surprising development of guys like Lucas Duda and Juan Lagares, guys who had one major league skill, but seemingly not enough around that one skill to stay in the majors. Instead, they've developed enough to be not only viable major leaguers, but valuable ones as well.
  15. That offseason, the Blue Jays made two major trades, both viewed as huge prospect hauls for the team they partnered with: The Mets acquired Syndegaard and D'Arnaud, both with significant risk, for Dickey. That has worked out perfectly. The Marlins acquired Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, Jeff Mathis, and Anthony DeSclafani for Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio, and John Buck. That trade has really backfired hard on the Marlins, and even the subsequent trades of Marisnick, Escobar, and DeSclafani haven't really worked out either.
  16. I apologize if that derailed the discussion. It's just crazy that in the spring, the discussion was how many million Murphy cost himself with his comments and subsequent "mistreatment" of Billy Bean, and now the conversation has completely flipped into how many million he's made for himself in the offseason. It's just a great reminder of how fickle the world of baseball, and sports in general, truly is.
  17. LOL. Westboro supports him. They tweeted appreciation for him over the week. I never said violence would be okay whatsoever. You should perhaps be more careful with the inferences you're making.
  18. The current CBA is complete in 2016. DH in both leagues will be addressed before he even hits arbitration.
  19. After their halfway point, the Braves were ahead of the Mets (who hadn't played as many games, they had a better record at their halfway point). The Braves are picking #3, the Mets are going to the World Series. Baseball.
  20. I know it's the unpopular opinion in this thread, but it's sad to see the Cubs out. I'm a baseball fan because of a wonderful woman who lived and died for her Cubbies. The team has done a very solid job with their rebuild, and they'll be around for a while with that squad. Nevermind that this means that the hated Mets are in the World Series.
  21. Anyone who is gay, lesbian, bi, or trans would be the ones making the person in the Murphy costume fearful for his/her own safety. Not many players get support from Westboro Baptist Church. Daniel Murphy does, and I don't think that's a badge of pride to wear.
  22. This thread reminds me that there is no "dislike" button. Sad.
  23. Forgiveness for Lonnie Smith and even Jack Morris, perhaps. Never Kent, and not because of that play.
  24. The product is what it's all about. If you have something you would buy and are excited (or even moderately interested in) to get to the hands of potential customers, you can do well. Others may be able to sell something they're not 100% behind, but that's definitely not me, and it's been one of the reasons I went into social work in spite of a marketing degree and good sales experience in early work.
  25. I think you need these to fully buy into that view: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0876/5690/products/1_e3c3e0d7-1f65-4943-9bb9-151956fbbe46_large.jpeg?v=1432583776
