Maybe. Tristan Thompson seems to think there's more money out there as well, but now he's without a contract.

I'll be even more optimistic and say 35 wins, but I do think that they have a low floor for the season - things could go bad in a hurry.

Pek being traded is about as realistic as trading BJ Upton alone was for the Braves. In order to move BJ, the Braves had to include arguably the best closer in the game. I worry to think what would have to be included with Pek to make him trade-able.

Law was the first graduate of MLB's scout school. Ben Lindbergh (formerly of BP and now with Grantland) went to the school over this last offseason.

Different situation there, though, as Law had gone through MLB's scout school with the intention of leaving BP for a scouting job.

Well, you get it... I was in the midst of doing an interview piece with Kiley for my site when he told me (in about as polite a way as possible) that he needed to postpone the interview for a time. Now he's been hired by the Braves, and I don't know how I could be more happy. Kiley has very similar views on prospects as the current Braves regime has. As I'm putting out my top-100 Braves prospects list this week, a lot of people have noticed how many of these players were 1) brought in after Frank Wren left, and 2) guys with incredible upside, but low, low floors. The Braves went way too long as a team that would never take a chance, and Wren ran off most of the scouting department in his time in Atlanta. Many of them, interestingly enough, ended up in New York with the Yankees, and on the staff of the Yankees at the same time as many of these former Braves scouting personnel was one Kiley McDaniel. The Braves bring back the old guard once Wren leaves, and lo and behold, a year later, they ink Kiley as well. Kiley is a big fan of upside and tools, so he sometimes bypasses a guy farther along in the minors for one more skilled and, frankly, eye-appealing. He was one of the few who had Ozhaino Albies ahead of Jose Peraza in the Braves system, and he was spot on with that. I'll be excited to complete my interview later in the offseason after Kiley gets his feet on the ground in his new position.

Gattis needed out from behind the plate for sure. I was sad to see him go in Atlanta, but hard to miss a guy with a sub-.300 OBP too awfully bad.

Bourn is in Atlanta now along with Nick Swisher. Bad contract swap where the Indians took on Chris Johnson.

So, after hours upon hours of video research and emailing, today, the first 20 of my top 100 Atlanta Braves prospects goes live. I'm not assuming you all would have a ton of interest in this, but it's been a heck of a project for me, and I'd appreciate any feedback that anyone would care to share. How is this different than Coghlan/Kang, though? This happens multiple times per year, but because it was on the playoff stage with one of the biggest market teams in the game, you'll hear talk this offseason about changing it. Nothing changed about home plate collisions until one of baseball's golden boys, Posey, was lost for the season. I'm not sure if this will be enough. If it were a young up-and-coming star like Correa, Lindor, or Seager taken out like this, the outrage would be much larger, and you'd no doubt have changes made this offseason. I think it will be discussed, but I'm not sure there will be the level of outrage to make a change by the time we get to December winter meetings.

That was the ruling on the field - that it wasn't the neighborhood play, therefore, Utley hadn't been called out.

It was not a "neighborhood" play. That's a play that needs to be removed from the game as well.

Who seriously cares about the politics? Someone lost their life. It's a shooting that happened at a school. If political labeling is my first reaction to such a tragedy, I'd re-evaluate life priorities immediately. -

Another one today at Texas Southern University as well with two dead and the shooter still on the loose. -
Can someone put Kristi Noem in there? Then her Candy Crush during committee meetings might get to be more of a national embarrassment and get her butt out of DC. Until then, the die-hard GOPers of SoDak will ensure she's constantly returning, regardless of how poor it looks on the state.

I like Shabazz as an instant offense guy off the bench, but that's also Martin, so those minutes will be interesting.
