  1. I hope wimmers gets the nod and Burdi gets to rest. He really could just start in aa next year and make the jump the twins before june. There is no reason for slow promotion with him.
  2. That is not true at all. While he has improved (pretty hard not to when he committed 42 errors in 2012), he is still an uncertainty at the position. He is big, and will only get bigger. That doesn't mean he can't play a passable 3b, just that science is against him. There is a big difference between noting an improvement, and being confident he remains at 3b. I can see the Twins keeping him in AAA for an entire year with the excuse that his defense needs to improve.
  3. O boy. Cy Hendriks coming.
  4. I'm with you jokin. Seems like a scouting report from a while ago. We might have to wait to see an updated report on him. I don't see how someone could say he isn't squaring up with the ball in August. That iso is pretty nice for a 21 yo in the fsl. I look at him more like a Markakis profile. I haven't compared numbers or anything, just seems like a good fit.
  5. Could finally see Meyer. Gilmartin is another possibility.
  6. Oops, I just added the 5 from July twice. Nice catch.
  7. Kepler has a .940 OPS in 20 games in August. He started his turn around on July 13th, and here is his slash line since 353/412/535 with a BB/K of 15/10. That makes 28 games and about a month and a half of dominating the FSL. It is really encouraging to see this turn around. Even taking into consideration the entire year which he struggled to start, his K/BB ratio is still pretty good. With the seemingly lack of options for corner OF spots, his reemergence is exciting. Hopefully he can finish the year strong and maybe get the nod for the AFL. He is still only 21, and a strong finish almost guarantees him a trip to AA for 2015 IMO.
  8. I think you wait a season. Stir the price might go up a little, but there is something to be paid for a place you are succeeding. Look at liriano, great 2010 has everyone excited then regressed. His advanced stats looked good too.
  9. Has everyone forgotten? Play 2b = Bat 2nd Its pretty simple really.
  10. Still making excuses for Mauer I see. Concussion symptoms shymptoms, fact of the matter is he has been a terrible 1b this season and average defensively. He is never going to justify the rest of his contract at that position. Say whatever you want about what he used to be.
  11. I pretty much expect the opposite of whatever sid says.... That said, I'll agree with the sentiment about getting a new pitching coach as top priority.
  12. Rondon is 2 years older, so not the same comparison. We might be on the verge of seeing Stewart in 2 years too if things go right. Berrios is more than on track for that timeframe.
  13. I have stayed out of the conversation, but I love (yes love) WAR. You want to pick it apart as not an encompassing stat.... whatever. It's not perfect, but it isn't terrible like many are claiming. Usually the best players in the league have the highest WAR. I think defensive position should also play into it more, but the metric for that would then be debated too. The thing is, you have to take it for what it is. It's only a number, making judgements on one stat is foolish.
  14. I feel better now. Thanks for that.
  15. I haven't been able to get 41 yet. I was driving and trying to figure it out while everyone was sleeping yesterday. Now, working through it, I am still not able to get 41. What the hell. I'm getting pissed. The part that is throwing me off is the 80 percent chance thing. Without caring to look up the answers, it should be .15 x .8 coming out to .12. I know its too low. So then I thought "well, at 50% chance of being right the chance would be 15%. So where does it go from there. Now I'm more confused and am contemplating getting out my calc-based statistics book. Help my sanity and just do that ****ing problem for me.
  16. Should be better at statistic questions consider I have a bs in mathematics.... my first hunch is 80. I know it can't be though, because the actual percent is too low. So ny next hunch is 12, but that seems too low.
  17. Nobody knows how bad this concussion is. Knocked out or not, the severity of each is different. He is young and has a greater ability to heal. After all symptoms are gone let him dh for a little while. You can't bubble wrap him and expect him to be ready for the mlb, but you can try and avoid another concussion for the remainder of the season while getting him competitive at bats.
  18. A concussion isn't the end of the world. Sure, some players have trouble coming back. Some are fine a few days after. I'm not going to get too wound up about it.
  19. I don't think Jorge is really being challenged in this league. Seems to have found his control again. I would like to see him go back up to Cedar Rapids, but I don't think that will happen.
  20. Jokin, Adam and May are nowhere even close to each other. First of all in your comparison May struck out 1 per 9 better and walked almost double the batters.... yet had similar results. That tells me he has better stuff, but control was an issue. Also, May had a k/9 of 12 the previous season. These two are not comparable, May is/was a much better prospect. That doesn't take away that Adam has a shot to be an MLB pitcher. Swarzak struck out more guys than he did in the lower minors. However, looking at their age 22 season and Swarzak's next few seasons, they don't look like much. Swarzak really grew after a few seasons with the Twins, so Adam certainly could do that.
  21. Wow you are all acting like this is a God send move and Ryan has done an amazing job this season. These trades have been good. Let's not get carried away with the "normal tr standards" stuff. He's still part of the reason they are in this mess. Anyway. I'm happy for Willingham and the royals. I'll be pulling for them the rest of the season. It will be nice to have fresh blood in the playoffs. They have the pitching to do well, and Willingham will help them score runs. I thought this would be a good fit a few weeks back.
  22. 4.6 k/9 is not"decent" no matter what level a player is at. That is a catastrophically terrible k rate. Anyway, my post us about Wimmers. I'm pretty excited about his results this year. He has to transition into starting. Swarzak was a pretty successful milb starting pitcher. I'd also hope to see what Wimmers can do in the afl. How long until a 40 roster spot needs to be decided on him?
  23. Oxtung you have a point, but you are also missing the premise. If innings is the issue, the bullpen is the best place to manage him. He can still have a similar routine, he just isn't going to start games, just come in relief. Plus, what is his limit 150? So he could theoretically come up and start... then get sent to the pen to close out the year or shut down. The premise is Meyer needs MLB innings to continue his development. He needs to face MLB hitters. He needs to struggle. He needs to be put in a situation that the start of 2015 he can take off running. The same goes for May. This organization has trouble convincing itself to start the season with rookies... yet they let these two guys spend the entire year in AAA without even a cup of coffee. Its maddening.
  24. I hate this article. Sorry Nick. The Twins can come up with any argument they want. The fact remains, they are purposefully not putting the best players on the field. That, in my opinion, is disrespect to the fans. Meyer's pitch count may be 90 (usually its 100... not a significant difference), that doesn't mean those 90 pitches aren't better used in the MLB. Pulling the development card or the play it safe card is asinine. The guy is in his mid-20, blowing away AAA hitters at his will and has logged plenty of time in the minors. He's a professional ballplayer, not a 12 year old kid preparing for the little league world series. I've been beyond pissed for 2 months about their decision making on pitchers.
  25. That might be true for me too.... With that question being if he can hit RH pitching.
