  1. In six months, Congress' identity may change. That the Republicans aren't willing to do anything about Russia, I think, is good campaign fodder come November.
  2. Tillerson fired. Not friendly enough to the Russians?
  3. Why is Hughes part of your off-season evaluation? His salary is sunk cost.
  4. No reason to make a decision on either until Opening day, unless they want to give one or the other a chance to catch on with another club. They both can provide depth in case of injury, so holding onto at least Hughes (sunk cost) makes sense.
  5. I think they'll lose their third rounder... rules are a bit different than previous off-seasons.
  6. Yesterday, Heyman suggested the Lynn 2/20 offer was "outdated" (did it precede the trade for Ordizzi or the singing of Morrison?), so it may not represent the current state of the negotiations, nor the Twins willingness to add another starter.
  7. I've worried for some time that Russia could orchestrate a North Korea crisis (or a crisis else where in the world), the timing of which would benefit the GOP. I'm less worried about an orchestrated peace talk--say with North Korea making some concession on nuclear arms--to make Trump look good. Even if Trump manages some kind concessions from NK, this White House is so bad at optics, I'm not sure it will have much positive effect much less much staying power. I think it's more likely they bungle whatever good outcome Russia has planned for them.
  8. I think accusing Mauer of lying is just a bridge too far. It's odious of conspiracy theory, not deduction.
  9. I'm not sure how you can draw that conclusion from the article. We don't know how MLB will handle this. The fact there's no civil or criminal law suit, may work against Sano, as this investigation is the only one that could bear consequences for Sano. At this point, I don't think there's any way of knowing how MLB will come down on Sano, if they will at all.
  10. Nice, accessible article. I think this point deserves emphasis here, as there did seem to be some confusion.
  11. The t-shirt trick is great, but use a dirty/sweaty one; and if you have a partner, put one of hers in there too. (Do you eventually want to allow the dog on the bed with you? If so, I think you can bring the crate in the room with you, and when the dog isn't crying for a time, bring her/him up on the bed for a while.) Good system for potty training that worked for me, when leaving for the day, or several hours. As he gets a couple months old, give him more responsibility. At first, I'd put my dog, and her crate in the bathroom, if she didn't pee on the floor, the next time I left, I'd move her to the kitchen, grated off from the rest of the house. But if she did pee, she'd go back to the bathroom, and if she peed in the bathroom, back to the crate. Eventually, she figured she needed to hold it. The changing environment I think helped imprint the lesson. Very cute, pup! Best of luck!
  12. Yet an astounding* number of women do not report sexual assault. I wonder why that is. *"Rape and sexual assault victimizations were more likely to go unreported to police among victims who were college students (80 percent) than nonstudents (67 percent)." I don't know how it's more believable that a young women who's career depends on sports connections would make up a story with such detail who stands to gain nothing, but stands to lose career opportunities and have their character thrown in the mud, than it is for her story to be largely true, perhaps at worse, her recollection colored by the trauma of the experience.
  13. But she's not filing a claim, so the statute of limitations doesn't apply.
  14. About fifty years ago, a factor in determining whether a sexual assault occurred was how much the victim had resisted. As you suggest, if she didn't fight hard enough, or people weren't alerted who were nearby, there could be no sexual assault. Thank god, our law has progressed from that point, and no longer considers such factors.
  15. If anything, this debate should dispell the notion that more armed guards (or teachers) is the answer.
  16. Infract thyself?
  17. Are you sure that's the standard employed?
  18. Why not 60 DL if he's still hurt? That he is being waived would imply he's healthy, correct?
  19. https://www.theonion.com/unstable-man-plots-to-bring-guns-to-schools-1819574765?utm_content=Main&utm_campaign=SF&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=SocialMarketing
  20. Heyman: the Twins have flexibility and interest in Lynn if his asking price drops.
