  1. We've talked about this before, but anecdotally I know far more moderates that voted for neither Hillary and Trump; I literally know no one who supported Bernie in the primaries and did not vote for Hillary. These people only seem to exist on twitter... What this analysis doesn't take into account is that Bernie appealed to people who normally would not vote at all or do not vote for Democrat (Green partiers etc.). So I'm not really sure there's any lost Democrats because of Bernie, rather he broadened the tent, and it is no surprise that people who were engaged for the first time by him, weren't going to turn out for Hillary. (Let's not forget the major reason to vote her was that she was electable/qualified as opposed to Bernie). Cynicism isn't leadership. I'm beginning to think if there's one Democrat that could actually lose to Trump, it might be Biden. That said, it's nice to have new voice around here. I hope you keep it up.
  2. This. Thanks for putting in your two cents, Ben. Your words are appreciated as always (and are plenty articulate).
  3. Okay this conversation just jumped the shark.
  4. My point is that anything above silence being posted to social media will result in some rando using it as a sledgehammer. To avoid the sledgehammer of social media is indeed avoid the forum altogether, it doesn't matter that one iota that original poster gives the benefit of the doubt or frames the issue graciously. Blaming the left or the right for the reactions of who the heck ever on social media is disingenuous.
  5. We've seen Adrianza in this kind of situation a few games now; I'll be surprised if he gets a hit.
  6. Hindsight: I would have pinch run Buxton there. Hindsight in a few seconds: I would have pinch hit Garver there.
  7. I hope he's grooming a protege, because he might have a manger's job in the near future.
  8. Social media cannot be the boogie man that justifies preemptive snowflake cries of "lynch mob" every time someone points out there is problem with this kind of behavior, a problem we all acknowledge is a problem. (The alternative is to stay silent about such problems in the public forum. And that is an awful, shameful alternative.) It was shared on this forum and not social media, and no one has gone ape-poopy about it. So in the end we're really just putting the lefties on twitter on trial again: great.
  9. But where was the problem in the instant case? The criticism seems like rehashing old complaints about liberal responses.
  10. That's all fair. But I think LaBombo's post was a bit of knee jerk. The only reaction I've seen to this photo is ashbury's, which seems to imply there's no excuse for this kind of behavior, and I tend to agree. And honestly, no one needs to point out the problem of driving a monster truck with .30 BAC, that problem is self evidence. What needs to be pointed out is the subtle forms of problematic behavior, say, like this.
  11. That's all ashbury said, is that he doubted they were blameless. Lynch mob? Where is that? Point to it. I think you're being completely assumptuous in the same way you're accusing others.
  12. It doesn't have to be openly racist to be a problem. Can you concede that? This is the strawman that the conservative middle continually beats down when they whine about being called racist, when in fact no one actually called them that. Of course the implication is there, but not by the accusations, but by parading around in the symbols of racism whether they be confederate flags or nooses or certain hats. Glad we're relitigating the students in MAGA hats, which is also is kind of meant to trigger people. And though you characterize my response as outrage, I think I only went as far as saying he was a douche/asshat. But carry on. Those mean ole liberals are really gonna get you.
  13. Right now it looks like we're projected to have the best record, so we'd play the wildcard winner. The odds of winning the division jumped to 66% in just a couple of days...
  14. How do you know that the fan's intent? You don't. Kneeling does have the connotation in protesting during the anthem, which is directly relevant to a black athlete.
  15. There's a huge gulf between pointing out the pejorative and symbolic heft of making a noose and destroying someone's life. Asbury did not do the latter, so I think you're overreacting just a touch.
  16. Sorry you're tired of it. But white athletes don't face the issues that Westbrook and others do. (Duh!) Sorry you can't understand it's deeply offensive to when Trump calls out athletes from protesting disproportionate police misconduct against black people. And it's highly problematic that you ignore what they were protesting (you don't mention it, as if they were protesting their pay rate or something). Sorry that you think employment should be enough for them, and they should be happy with having a job and not being incarcerated. I think you have a lot of trouble understanding the importance of dignity because, well, you have privilege and never had to worry about that lack of dignity in your life, because of something you can't control like race. This is why I don't really want to respond to your posts, because I find your perspective absolutely deplorable, and a contributing factor to systemic racism. If you don't like the shouts of "racism," change your attitude, bro. It's only people like you that can change the narrative.
  17. I wouldn't give up Romero for Giles. But it'd be interested in acquiring him.
  18. I appreciate the engagement, but I really don't want to rehash what was discussed weeks ago. And I wouldn't characterize you misrepresenting anything so much as there's just disagreement over an amorphous phenomenon like privilege and systemic oppression. But I will ask again, do you see the problem with using unemployment as some kind of defense for Trump? And how that suggests that people of color should support him? It's similar to the "shut up and dribble" sentiment. Just because someone is employed speaks nothing to the quality of their employment or the quality of the rest of their lives in American society.
  19. Polanco is pretty, pretty good. That extension is looking mighty good.
  20. This is a miserable game for Jays fans to attend. Jesus.
  21. I remember the huge post. But I wasn't sure what you were directly talking about whether it was football players, police misconduct, or unemployment. As for why I ignored the long post is that I disagreed with much of it, and at that point it had become exhausting discussing issues with you. Nonetheless, do you see how problematic it is to cite to the unemployment rate as how Black people should view Trump?
