    The boxes have Lewis 2/9 with 4 strikeouts and the homer, a bit different than the summary, which is 3/8. Plus, he finishes game 1 hitting .222, and then he goes 1/5 in game 2, and raises his average to .228. That is some fuzzy math.

    Astudillo wouldn't be in Rochester if he was always 8-11. How many hits were by swinging at balls in the zone? That is probably what will get him another shot. That, or one of the catchers going on the IL.

    Not a fan of Astudillo, expect for the no look pick-off throw to first base in spring training a couple years ago. His OBP follows his average, and even it that is .270, it becomes horrible. Plus, he is mediocre at all positions he plays. We have a need for him only as a backup catcher with flexibilty if Garver or Castro get hurt. There is no future for Astudillo, even if he does have more plate disipline, I think.

    I'm all for trading prospects. I just hope that our FO is a shrewd as Houston's and can get what they need by trading the mid-levels, like they took for Pressly. It would have been optimal to just sign a great reliever for cash, but that ship has sailed... er.... sunk. Plus, I would love to have Bumgarner for a playoff run. Talk about a playoff resume. Or, do you think Houston would trade the aging and washed up Verlander?

    I hear a lot of "he will be fine" optimism, but I find it troubling, and dissappointing. It is not a small sample fluff off anymore. It is the norm for about a year.

    And regarding integrity... there has been a better option to call instantaneous balls and strikes for at least ten years, yet...... the game continues to let umpires guess, and to the tune of about 10-15% wrong each game.

    Seattle comes into town with one more homer than the Twins (126 to 125), albeit with 5 more games played. Could be some balls flying out......

    Adrianza is playing like it is Spring Training again. Impressive.

    I am a believer in pre-game prep and consistency and ritual. I still see many greats practice one. Not so much a believer in the same socks or jock or hat, etc...... but the pregame prep probably did have a java script type of connection to his game day. I think it is about the ritual, not about what interupted it (as that seems to be what is ruffling peoples feathers and take on the initial comment). It is not the only thing, or even the main thing, but it is one thing. Actors use ritual, musicians, orators, etc .......... it was just an observation, as I read it, that the pre-game ritual was interupted.

    Yes! So why not make the same leap and take the plunge on Kimbrel, and let the staff help him discover new levels that make him even better than he has ever been, no? He already has the proven foundation, with just a half year in question. Sorry, I sound like it is still a possibility. This is probably something that would make more sense to say before he was signed by the Cubs instead of the Twins. I think the most absolute statement you made in your fine article was ... "Collectively, Twins fans are MAD."

    I think I read somewhere an astute sports writer called the players that came in the trade for Pressly mid-tier prospects. Have they changed overnight? "But from my view, they should be seeking to execute the same blueprint that landed Ryan Pressly in Houston last summer: trading mid-tier prospects for prime-aged relievers, ideally with an untapped strength, under multiple years of control." Mid-tier does about the same for me as the dreaded mediocre innings-eater. So the plan is to trade the prime-aged reliever we have and need, who's strengths have already been tapped and developed by our own team, for mid-tier prospects, and then hope someone will trade another like him that you hope might become that guy for the mid-tier prospects, or others similar to them, and see how it goes? I guess that is where we are now. Even if they get it done, it seems like a wash and a waste of time. I hope they do get it done. One can only move forward, now. But I am betting most teams will be asking for top prospects, instead of mid-tier, and the new guy won't be as good as Pressly is, even if the task is accomplished.

    Seems to me Pohlad's, with there cheaptitiude for years and fielding a poor product, owe it to the team and the fans to make up for it now.

    The Twins' leadership is at the head of baseball's evolution toward sophistication and analytical evaluation. I guess we just forget Houston exists. But from my view, they should be seeking to execute the same blueprint that landed Ryan Pressly in Houston last summer: trading mid-tier prospects for prime-aged relievers, ideally with an untapped strength, under multiple years of control. Instead of just keeping the pitcher they didn't need to trade. And who did they trade him to? Yup, Houston. Houston who got us to take mid-tier prospects.... not even top prospects for this years top reliever. The FO has done well with free agents this year. I don't think that Schoop has performed better than LeMahieu, but he has been very good. Cron and Perez have surprised..... so far. All of Paraker's advanced stats say what happened yesterday was bound to happen. But Morrison, Duke, Lynn, and Reed count too. Glad that is over. And they resigned Molitor, which was a huge mistake (and not in hindsite). I am giddy about how our team has done so far, and not denying that this FO may be the best we have had, with a chance to be even better, but I am not ready to anoint them as at the head of baseball's evolution toward sophistication and analytical evaluation.

    Hildenberger. Another AAA inning with a walk, a K, and a homer. Looks like even AAA isn't fooled anymore, either. Those are all some pretty horrible season ERAs in the Rochester box this game.

    One season like that...... and you can be just so-so the next season, and apparently still be untouchable. And Larnach is playing in the same games and against the same pitchers Lewis is, and is doing so much better.

    The only reason Baldellli is "spreading the load" (that's looks terrible) is because there is no closer on this team! To think just "put him in the mix" is not utilizing him to his talents. I like a well rested Kimbrel that could be in the post-season at mid-seaon form.... instead of on the last legs of his year.

    After the Magill meltdown, Harper's 2/3 inherited runners scored (and he only needed one out) is hardly noticed in the end... but it is part of the "makeup" coming off the pen. True, very quirky play (and scorekeeper's rulings have been suspect for years)..... but a ball in play comes off of the pitch, his pitch, and ........... they all count.

    The only one they can't redeem is the Phillies (and that was on the road, and the only 3 games against them for the season), as we get 3 at home against the Yankees to finally shake the monkey off.

    I keep thinking Diaz is going to cost us a game or two. Holding Kepler at third base? Seems like he holds the guys with speed, and sends Cron and Astudillo. It hasn't really cost us yet, but I really don't care for his judgement. Way too conservative with the speedsters. Really impressive game is so many ways. Gibson bent, but didn't break. Key hits. Time to take the series 3-1 tomorrow. Castro is having a hell of a year so far.

    ?? Are they looking at Tampa's third base coach that is on the field, or Diaz in the dugout?
