  1. Not even in my top 10, I've listened to a lot of his interviews, very cryptic, very sarcastic, when the door hits him in the butt I won't be sad. Lately hes been saying that he wants to stay here but will he leave some money on the table and sign a Twins friendly deal - after collecting 80 million dollars?? Probably not.
  2. I think it would be better to leave him in AA, have some success, and build up his confidence for next year. He struggled intially in AA and would probably do the same in AAA, better to finish the year on a strong note in AA.
  3. Good article. One question I have is why did he have to get to the major leagues before they figured he couldn't play shortstop?? The same could be said for Plouffe. What does that say about the Twins development of infielders?? If they had been moved earlier in the minors they would have more experience and wouldn't be learning at the major league level.
  4. You guys crack me up with all your anger and angst over whether Terry Ryan makes a trade or not. My prediction, he'll make one trade, I'll go out on a limb and say Duensing is gone. If he makes more than two I'll eat my mouse.
  5. You don't suppose that the $3 million dollar bonus that he already has in the bank affects his attitude, do you? He could quit baseball tomorrow and be a very rich man where he came from.
  6. This is why he should be banned for life, he took enough roids to be signed to a huge contract, a contract that he will still collect on. If you have some struggling player looking at this case, only a 1/2 season suspension, why wouldn't he take a chance on taking a few steroids and getting his own big payday?? Baseball won't stop the steroid problem until they hand out longer suspensions and/or void the contracts of players that fail a drug test.
  7. Liriano was a head case, I'm glad he moved on - but you knew he had talent that there was a good chance that he'd figure it out, like he is now.
  8. I agree!! Diamond needs to work out his kinks at AAA.
  9. So what changed within the Twins organization? Why are they having success drafting the last couple of years vs. the failures that they had previously? Those failures has led to the current losing state of the Twins.
  10. Where do you find that ignore list and how do you add someone to it?? And as long as I'm asking, is there a spellchecker? I've actually stopped reading thru most of the comment sections because they get to be a gripe fest, most of the time by the same posters, with the same theme, the Twins front office can't do anything right. I read the informative articles and move on to other sites. And if you do post you get shot down and ridiculed for being ignorant, presenting bad arguments, etc. I only slogged thru this one because I wanted to see if people were happy about the Gibson posting. I did notice that one of the principle gripers didn't post - he must be on vacation. Just think of the angst if Hernandez had been kept on the 25 man instead of Gibson!!! There would be 3 times as many posts here!!!
  11. That should have been "constant misery, bitching, and whining". I think that some of the posters have a big chunk of smelly cheese beside their keyboard to go with their perpetual whine. You're 100% correct here, I find myself not paying as much attention to the Twins, not listening, and definitely not going to Target Field and buying $8 beers and $5 hotdogs. Terry Ryan and the Pohlads realize that too, that if they don't put a winning product on the field their attendance will go down just like it has in other new stadiums with losing teams so when posters say "the Pohlads don't care about winning" they're just wrong - and should reach for another chunk of cheese to go with their whine.
  12. Looks like I'm in the minority here but I think you guys are making a mountain out of a molehill, you make it sound like he's going to be the second coming of Steven Strasburg. Not. I've heard both Gardy and Terry Ryan say they want to see more 'consistency' out of him, obviously THEY don't think he’s tearing up the minors - and they're the ones that count.
  13. Why is everybody in such a hurry to get Gibson up to the Twins?? He's not even burning up AAA!!! At this point he still has a lot to learn. I'd rather see him learn his craft in a low pressure environment than come up and go 0-7 and lose his confidence. Look no farther than Hicks as and example of someone that didn't spend enough time in the minors, gets his flaws exposed on the big stage - that can ruin some players. If the time comes when he IS lights out, the Twins will get him up. Or someone will get hurt. Still a lot of season left, eventually we'll see him at Target Field. Side note, is Gibson on a innings count for the season?
  14. The Twins have always valued a good closer because its very demoralazing for a team to lose games late - can you say Ron Davis? Perkins contract is a bargain. Willingham is here because the Twins are trying to keep the fans coming to Target field to buy $7 beers and $5 hot dogs. By jettisoning all the veterans they'd be a 60 win team and the fans would leave in droves. On the other hand, with any luck at all, some decent starting pitching, natural progression by some of the young players like Ploufe, Parmalee, Dozier, and continued production by the core of veterans, they could be a .500 team and keep the fans coming to Target Field. Unfortunatley, the starting pitching and progression is lacking at this point so the Twins are slowly sinking and the 'get rid of all the veterans' crowd here on Twins Daily may get their wish at the trade deadline.
  15. But would he want the job?? Now hes got a sweet deal, travel every couple of weeks, you can be the Yoda of the Twins instructors, everybody respects you, then you get to go back to Minnesota and do a little fishing. Managing a major league team has to be a grind, 162 games, starting in February and going until October. Maybe on a winning team thats fun but on a losing team it has to really be tough.
  16. Terry Ryan is damned if you do, damned if you don't. After last season they needed pitching, he dealt from a position of strength at the time - centerfielders - most people on here applauded his trades and would have done the same thing if they were the GM but now the perfect storm of injuries has made them a little thin. In hindsight maybe they should have kept Benson around a little longer - but is an outfielder that hits .189 or a few missed fly balls going to make or break their losing season? I think not.
  17. Grey scares me because of the banned substance report. Coincidently his fastball is better and he has a great year?? Wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole - or the 4th pick. Don't like Stewart just because he is so young, a HS pick, lots of years for things to go wrong. Really hope they get Bryant!!! For so many years the Twins were lucky to have one or two players with 20 HR's, would be nice to get Sano, Buxton, Bryant and some others together and do some mashing!! Think back to the days of Puckett, Hrbek, Gaetti, Brunanski, one guy would get hot for a week and carry the team, when he'd cool off, then one of the others would get hot and carry the team. That was fun!!
  18. Can teams negotiate with a player before they draft him?? As in asking Boras "What would it take to sign him"? After reading thru all the reviews I hope the Twins pick Bryant, yes they need pitching but power like that doesn't come along every day. He could be in the middle of the Twins lineup for 15 years while a pitcher, especially a high school pitcher, is more of a crap shoot. Interesting article in the Sports Illustrated about Meadows and Frazier and Georgia baseball. They even mentioned Buxton a couple of times.
  19. What’s more important, having success and building confidence or being pushed to the point of struggling so he can learn to overcome adversity?? I'd say the former – that along with the language barrier and just learning the pro routine, is enough to say that he stays where he is this year.
  20. We all hope that this is the kind of game propells him but realistically he'll have some more slumps, the advance scouts will find the holes in his game. At that point - July 1st? - it wouldn't hurt for him to go down to AAA for a month, he's had a taste of the majors, should know what it takes to succeed, motivate him to get back. Motivation is a powerful tool. Personally I think he would have been sent down already if the Twins had an adequate centerfield replacement.
  21. If there was a draft pick tied to letting Morneau walk, that’s what the Twins would do, it saves face and lets Morneau be the bad guy looking for a bigger contract ala Tori Hunter. Now with the new rules and no draft pick coming back, the decision gets much tougher. What if the Twins are still in contention (<5 games out) when the trade deadline? Do you alienate the fans by trading one of your main players?? I don't think the Twins will do that - even though they should, it eliminates the logjam in the outfield and lets the younger guys play. I don’t think Morneau would accept a lesser contract from the Twins at the end of the season, too much pride. It’s a lot easier to take a pay cut from another team and say “I want to win a World Series”. My guess is 25% chance that he is traded, 70% chance that he plays out the season with the Twins and signs elsewhere, and 5% chance that he resigns with the Twins.
  22. Terry Ryan said on Sid's show that Worley DOES have an option left. Both him and Gardenhire emphasized that Worley needs to get the ball down. I would think after another bad start or two he'll be sent to AAA. They need him to work out the kinks by starting, not in the bullpen.
  23. Thanks, thats what I was looking for, as when does the show come on. Will have to try and tune into the Mighty 790 on Sat. Did some internet searches on 'Inside Twins' and came up with this. 1500 ESPN Kicks Off 2013 Twins Season with the Ron Gardenhire Show on Sunday, March 31 | twinsbaseball.com: News It says that the Inside Twins show has been expanded to an hour in 2013 and comes on from 9-10 on Saturdays.
  24. Simple solution, click your radio off. I like listening to Terry, he's not going to tell you about trades, but you can find out about injuries and what he thinks about players and how they're doing.
  25. Thats the problem, you don't know if or when he'll be on. Hate to say it, but I sometimes get busy and don't pay regular attention to Sid. When he had a regular Sunday show the last couple of years, you could count on him or Rob Anthony being on.
