  1. If you're looking for the perfect player at the perfect price that is certain to perform above his pay grade for the entire contract you'll be losing 96 games every year waiting. They have the money, get us some better players so this team is at least watchable next year. Please!!
  2. 7:22pm: The Twins haven't made any offers to Nolasco, according to 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson (via Twitter).
  3. "and b. because Salty will be too expensive." Why? They have plenty of money, imo.
  4. "I assume that means that he is more adept at instructing mimes and chameleons." Really a lost art and may explain his lofty salary.
  5. Nooooooo, we still have hope they'll bring Drew back.
  6. Now that Mark DeRosa is retired it may be the best player he can get.
  7. I'm not sure I'd go all in on Pinto based on less than 100 at bats. Salty would be nice but I can't see them spending that kind of money when they can save it by bringing Drew back.
  8. Phil Miller has this at the Strib. Losing costs Twins half their TV audience | Star Tribune
  9. Don't forget this family was willing to let the team go away and be contracted. Does that really seem like something a real loyal baseball person (family) would do or someone that is only concerned about making money?
  10. Pohlad: “We’re committed to spending [50-52%] of revenue, and with the increase in revenue from the new stadium, there’s going to be ample dollars to pay players. It will make a huge difference" (STAR TRIBUNE, 9/14/07). Forbes estimates the Twins revenue at around 220m so a payroll budget of 110 is in line with what Pohlad said he'd spend. We are at around 50 right now. Why are people so afraid of the Twins spending money? The Pohlads are one of the richest pro sports owners they will not need to go on food stamps if a free agent they sign goes in the tank. They managed to survive with Blackburn, Morneau, Nathan and many others producing nothing. The Pohlads will be fine, they said they'd spend now prove it. Give us a better product on the field please.
  11. There is a good post at MLB Rumors with this graph. Worth a read. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ http://rotoauthority.blogs.com/.a/6a00d834515b9a69e2019b00bce92b970d-500wi
  12. Of course there are shortcuts, they are used all the time. The problem is that Ryan is stuck on the same road, the only road he knows how to travel. Ryan is the kind of guy that will never give up that tired old tattered paper map and spend money on a GPS Navigator.
  13. We need less bad outfielders not another one. Some defense please!
  14. Much rather pick up Nate McLouth. Less power but much much better fielder and with our pitching we need good fielders. What power Kubel sill has ends up with warning track fly balls in Target Field.
  15. I think he may need to try Japan for a couple years.
  16. Does anyone know how long Jack has worked for the twins?
  17. I don’t see tempting fate, your best players career and a lot of money, with Joes head makes any sense so give 1B a 3 bobber and look for another catcher. Sign Brian McCann for maybe 18m a year, not much more than Morneau got, and that's 3 bobbers. So you have a solid 1/3 of the lineup at least something to build from. Pick up a guy like Nate McLouth to platoon (dirty word) with Mastro, let Doumit, Arcia and Willy rotate RF/DH. Try getting Franklin Gutierrez ( and hope he stays healthy) to fill the CF spot until Buxton is ready. That might add another bobber. http://www.coupons4utah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Fishing_Cartoon_02tra.gif I'm guessing the off season will look like this!
  18. Certainly worth the effort to sign him. He has big upside and the only downside is money which will go in Pohlads pocket if not spent. If he has a big year either trade him at the deadline or a QO next winter. True or not I read his brother lives in the cities.
  19. I hope you have enough sense not to let her go to St Cloud whatever it is called now. Started many a hangover at the Press and Red Carpet bars.
  20. IMO it's an ego thing with Ryan. He wants to prove that he can do it without all the stats and spending a lot of money. Pohlad has said the money is there (true or not) so even spending 30m to be at 90m payroll, well under the Pohlad stated 52%, might not make us a contender but should certainly make the team much easier to watch for the fans. Note to Terry Ryan and Jim Pohlad, the last 3 years have been very hard to watch, please improve this team!!!
  21. I think one of the Admin guys should put up a "best guess" thread before FA starts where everyone can predict what they think will be the biggest $$ and best signing this winter. Would be interesting to see who does the best. Did anyone last fall think the biggest move last winter would be 2 yr @ 5m Kevin Corriea signing?
  22. Weather you think Ryan is great or out dated his record is not nearly as good as many want to remember. He has been the GM for 15 years, 1995-2007 and 2012-13. His overall record is 1155-1254 and if you take out the last two years because they were Bill Smiths fault it is still below .500 at 1023-1062. To his credit his teams won 4 division titles in 5 years but only one playoff series. On the other side 11 out of those 15 years they didn't make the playoffs. Is that good enough? IMO no. On a side note the Twins farm system actually improved it's grading under Smith.
  23. To your point nobody is calling anyone insane and that's not what he said. Life and business evolve and grow over time. If you live in a bubble and don't expand your thinking you will be left behind. Doing what you did 10 years ago likely doesn't work any more. That's why every top MBA school has lines of businesses recruiting the grads as they walk out the door. They want that young energy and fresh look at things. John said: "the Twins are too enamored with GroupThink, too inbred, limit their promotions to internal people and are resistant to external ideas/people." IMO that quote agrees with with what John said.
