  1. i've been saying this for the past year. high school phenoms are on a similar timeline to the bigs as college arms. bundy beat gerrit cole to the bigs by almost a year. yes, he's the exception but any high schooler picked inside the top five should be an exception.
  2. if beede solves his control issues, he's the #2 pick in the draft.
  3. pretty accurate. the good prospects jump from the dsl to the gcl after one season but a larger bonus doesn't guarantee it: exhibit A is argenis silva.
  4. that's a very good candidate, imo. it's not every year that we can learn from the pirates but with reclamation projects like burnett and liriano leading they way this year, they've found the right buy-low types.
  5. while our pipeline is way better than years ago, that's not saying much - with the exception of a couple of Venezuelans, we haven't had any home grown latins to speak of for decades. that's really an indictment on our system. with that said, we've made one big signing out of the d.r. (ok, maybe two with minier) and have done a so-so job since then - that's an improvement but it's not exactly glorious. maybe our standards are just really, really low....
  6. you're opposed to looking at the standings page on every baseball website? get a sortable list and go smallest to largest on win pct.
  7. it's just a re-hash of how they were all-in this year because they anticipated the pool being much deeper. also raises the question that they'll have a $4 million pool next year with a cap of $250k/player so they're thinking they may trade their space the other way.
  8. Jorge is the classically projectable of the three. Rosario and landa are both six foot on a good day. I think you're up in arms over nothing - a couple people have included him at the bottom of their list.
  9. I think your post is inadvertently hilarious.
  10. good list but I think chargois is staying in the pen. Jorge could be flipped with either Rosario, landa or Thorpe. the one guy I like that you left out is duffey - he's got better stuff than most people realize and has shot at being a no.3.
  11. the red wings would be pretty formidable with morneau hitting 8th in their line-up.
  12. lolz. sano's been drilled twice so far today. coincidence?
  13. i heard they're using their savings from the international pool to help pay their phone bill so he shouldn't have any problems receiving calls.
  14. disagree. the e-town line-up is abysmal but they have a collection of interesting arms, starting with the tres latinos. the gcl roster has a bunch of organizational filler but with stewart, thorpe, minier and gonsalves, you have a nice collection of high end talent and a good group of mid tier guys in navaretto, gonzalez, zazueta and fernandez. you could point to more guys on that roster who really don't have a shot over previous years, but the ceilings are as good if not better than recent years.
  15. two kids in one at bat means mauer's slugging percentage in the sack is way higher than at the plate.
  16. the cards do draft high floor guys but they also have shown an understanding for when to gamble on upside - Shelby miller comes to mind right away - as does the signing of carlos Martinez. throw in Michael wacha, who was just a really smart pick at that point in the first round, and you have an organization that has demonstrated an ability to go after a variety of different types of players that makes our (former?) penchant for strike throwing college pitchers gauche.
  17. we had the second pick in 2000 and the 30th pick in 2011 so it's not apples to apples, but with two supplemental picks in 2011 we wound up with: 1 levi michael - eesh 1s travis harrison - promising; his scouting reports aren't indicating plus tools but his production is solid for age/position/league 1s hudson boyd - he's imploded in the mwl this year and already moved to the bullpen. eesh. no more drafting fat preps, please. 2 madison boer - eesh 3 corey williams - starting to go backward in the fsl even though he's been a full time reliever for the duration of his pro career 4 matt summers - possible future no.5 starter; decent arm, doesn't miss bats at all 5 tyler grimes - flamed out at ss, reinvented as a catcher. we'll see.... and to think we may wind up with a top three system despite such a horrible recent draft.
  18. mmkay, let's just say the hyperbole police have issued a warrant for your arrest. walker compares much more closely to cory vaughn than either of those two. if all things turn out well, we get cory's dad. if they don't, we're stuck with cory.
  19. learning to control the strike zone, shortening his swing and cutting down his k rate.
  20. even if polanco and walker were promoted now, they'd still likely start next year at ft. myers so their developmental curve will be mostly unchanged. walker, in particular, has some remedial things to work on so their staying in c.r. for a year isn't a bad thing.
  21. bogaerts? lol, if he was on the table that'd be a no brainer. he'd fit in pretty nicely in between buxton and sano in our epic future line-up.
  22. skaggs is still rich, but it doesn't hurt to ask. i'd have to have one of holmberg or chafin back along with owings to make me pull the trigger. that'd be a decent haul made better by matching up need for need.
  23. i was going to post that chris owings should be a prime target of the twins - the dbacks have redundancy at short and perkins would be a great improvement over bell. as for bradley....he's the best pitching prospect in baseball and the dbacks would be nuts to consider trading him for a closer.
  24. Tonkin: five levels in a year and a half.
