He seems like an outstanding person, but I cannot wait for Salvi to retire. He pretty much has a full season of baseball against the Twins and he just doesn't let up. 157 games played. 31 doubles, 3 triples, 31 HR, 102 RBI. .292/.322/.508/.831.

For me it was the age of the team, especially on the pitching end of things. Their opening day starter had thrown 5 career games before this season. Expectations were probably looking at a team around .500 and if some of the many young players stepped up this year, a shot at a playoff spot. They probably didn't count on nearly every young player missing a major portion of the season. Those would include: Winder, Sands, Alcala, Paddack, Lewis, Kiriloff, Larnach, and Jeffers, IMO both Archer and Bundy were signed as stopgaps that were hopefully going to be replaced by Winder/Sands/Balzovic as the season progressed. The same went for some of the bullpen arms. When nearly all your young pitching misses most of the season, that plan went out the window. All the players they added at the deadline, minus Fulmer, are controlled for at least another season. We did have a few bright spots with Ryan, Miranda, Duran, a surprising Nick Gordon and of course Arraez. Unless we think that everyone on the team is injury prone, there should be a lot of options next year. Starting Pitchers that "should" be options: Maeda, Mahle, Gray, Ryan, Ober, Varland, Winder, Sands with SWR seemingly fighting his way as well. That's a lot of options. The bullpen will start with: Duran, Jax, Lopez and Thielbar which is looking a whole helleva lot stronger than they started with in 2022. If you would have told anyone on this site that the following players (Celestino, Garlick, Cave, Contreras, Beckham, Billy Hamilton) would combine for 653 PA and the season wasn't over yet, they would have told you this team probably isn't competitive. They combined to hit .216/.263/.391 with 18 HR and 56 RBI. You can blame it on the FO, or you can blame it on the slew of injuries to the young guys who the FO probably planned on taking the majority of those PA's. That's why I am optimistic for 2023 and why I think 2022 ended up falling pretty flat. There is a huge sum of players under the age of 27 the Twins got little to zero value out of that all should be in play next season. Then again if you are one to believe the Twins are just cursed and everyone is injury prone, then realistically they have no options and they are in another awful situation next year.

Could Another Starter Debut for Minnesota this Year?
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why would they trade Gray? His $12M team option seems like a no brainer and he should be realistically in line to starting Opening Day next season.- 19 replies

The 2022 Twins Are Now Built For October
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/pitch-tempo?season_start=2022&season_end=2022&n=250&split=no&team=MIN&type=Pit&with_team_only=1 Gray is pretty average with bases empty, but it's a slog when they are on base. Pagan is just slow all the time.- 41 replies

Does Everyone Play Through this Level Of Injury?
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the biggest disappointment this year has come to young players who have hit the IL. Paddack, Jeffers, Winder, Sands, Larnach, Kiriloff, Lewis have all missed MAJOR time. All guys who were expected to at least contribute if not take the step to be a regular staple all lost for a good portion of the season. That's the main injury concern in 2022 IMO.- 16 replies

Finally got to see the game re-play. Outside of that 3rd inning...Joe Ryan looked like an ace, too bad there was that 3rd inning. Moran's stuff was filthy tonight. When he has his control he looks like he could be one of the better relievers out there. Gordon should have been standing on 3rd base, no doubt about it, mental mistake that would have given them a nice chance to tie the game. They had their chances in the 9th too with Luis and Carlos, would have been an awesome come back. Oh well, they aren't going to win every night and it was nice to see them with some fight tonight after spotting the Sawx 6 runs. Put me in the camp who does not think Correa has been disappointing, even though he hit into the DP tonight. I expected a little more with the bat, but he is right on career lines of OPS+.

3 Disappointing Seasons from Twins' Top Prospects
SwainZag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I still have hope for Martin. With being a college player and missing 2020, he is only in his 2nd season in the minors. His age is a little concerning, but I hope they are willing to be patient with him.- 43 replies

Is Carlos Correa Really Going to Get Paid?
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If he opts out of the final 2 years, I offer 7 years - $200M. 2023 - $35M, 2024 - $35M, 2025 - $26M, 2026 - $26M, 2027 - $26M 2028 - $26M w/player opt out, 2029 - $26M w/player opt out. Contract would still give him the original $70M for the two opt out years, but would be adding a 5 year - $130M extension on with 2 opt out years at the end of the deal. Realistically there might be more lucrative offers out there, but I would imagine it would be somewhere in the ballpark. With the current year, total contract with Twins would be 8 years, $235M which comes out to $29.375 AAV. It's about $3M a year short of what Seager got last year. You could always tack on some incentives to up the ante.- 45 replies

Contemplating Rocco Baldelli’s Future with the Twins

Louie Varland Might Help the Twins Down the Stretch
SwainZag replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins have used 12 players 25 years or younger this season already including at least 10 players considered rookies. The only "aging" veterans who probably will not be on the roster is Archer, Leon and possibly Thielbar, otherwise everyone is under the age of 31. -
Are Reinforcements Close Enough for the Twins?
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think on the broadcast last night they said 8 of the last 12 games the Twins had were against left handed starters. Garlick crushes lefties to the tune of a .928 OPS this season. Seems that bat in the lineup would have been a massive upgrade over Beckham's .100 batting average, Gordon's .627 OPS vs L, or Kepler's .655 OPS vs L.- 41 replies

Week in Review: Running into a Wall
SwainZag replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins lost nealry 90 games last year, replaced nearly the entire pitching staff and rolled with more than 50% of a 25 man roster of 1st or 2nd year players this season for a good portion of the season. For most intents and purposes, THIS year was/is a rebuilding year. There is absolutely zero reason to burn it down with the amount of young talent on the roster and IL right now. I understand that some disappointment should be felt after the hot start to the year this season, but anyone that expected some 95-100 win team from the roster that was ready to go on Opening Day, especially in the pitching realm, would have been called crazy. Injuries have been a huge bummer, but there has been a lot of promise from young talent. A winning season should probably be looked at as a win this season after year's S-storm and something to build on for next year. Maybe that's too half full, but the Twins are in a better position than a lot of clubs around the league. Edit: Fuzzy details- 15 replies

I don't think you are in the minority, Gardy managed some very good ball clubs...he just got aged out. Wish I could have been at the field and shook his hand last night it looked like he was enjoying himself.

Who do you DFA off the 40 man to make room for Palacios? Unless he needs time on the IL, who do you demote to make room for him on the roster? Who's bat do you take out of the lineup? Buxton, Arraez, Miranda or Urshela? All 4 of them have hit better since the break than he has hit in AAA. Arraez isn't the best option at 2B, but isn't awful. I would rather see all 4 of those guys get regular AB's, the Twins could certainly you use the runs. The only time realistic time Palacios probably gets regular playing time is if Correa needs extended time off.

I mean.....he isn't wrong. After the Urshela HR in the 5th....they had 2 base runners for the rest of the game. An infield hit and a walk. 6 runs is fantastic, but the offense did completely shut off for the other half of the game.

Minnesota Twins Activate Slugger Miguel Sano
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Where would you play Palacios? He's got a great glove, but unless you are sitting Correa, he belongs nowhere near the Twins lineup. Steer has rose through the ranks quickly, but he has played 24 games at AAA. He isn't going to supplant anyone in the current 7 you listed. Polanco-Correa-Urshela are your everyday 2B-SS-3B. Arraez and Kirilloff both struggle against LHP. With a lefty on the mound Garlick can start in LF, Miranda at 1B and Sano DH. Against RHP, Kirilloff can play LF and two of Arraez/Miranda/Sano at 1B/DH. When Buck needs to DH, then you make decisions.- 60 replies

Minnesota Twins Activate Slugger Miguel Sano

I can't see them shopping Urshela much. The depth at 3B is Urshela and Miranda, trading Gio and an injury to Miranda means....Arraez? starts at 3B? No thanks. Don't deplete your depth if it's not necessary.- 60 replies

Minnesota Twins Activate Slugger Miguel Sano
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No but Nick Gordon can. With Gordon and Celestino on the roster, it was pretty redundant having a light hitting option on the bench. Without an option for Gordon, this move made sense, especially considering how much Celestino had been struggling at the plate.- 60 replies

Good move with Celestino, let him get ABs everyday in AAA. He has shown potential to be a pretty solid hitter, but could certainly use some seasoning. I think I am in the minority, but I am looking forward to seeing Miguel again.- 60 replies
